BANGKOK: -- There have been 22 confirmed Zika virus cases in Bangkok since the beginning of this year with most of the cases reported in September, said deputy city clerk Dr Wanthanee Wattana on Monday.

On top of that, she said that there are another 30 cases which are yet to be confirmed pending test results.

Of the 22 confirmed case, one is a pregnant woman who was declared safe but her new-born baby is pending test to determine whether his brain has been affected by the virus or not.

Three cases have travelled to upcountry provinces and health officials have been asked to contact them and to keep them under watch, said Dr Wanthanee as she pleaded with those infected to refrain from travelling to prevent possible spread of the virus.

"Three cases have travelled to upcountry provinces and health officials have been asked to contact them and to keep them under watch, said Dr Wanthanee as she pleaded with those infected to refrain from travelling to prevent possible spread of the virus."

The good Dr clearly does not understand how Zika is spread, or, perhaps she thinks only "upcountry" people have sex.

"She explained that the City Administration would not disclose the districts with Zika virus cases because it has wanted all districts to be on the alert to deal with the virus infection."

Come on, you expect us to believe that statement, pants on fire!

"Nationwide, 97 Zika virus cases have been reported since the beginning of this year in 16 provinces and the situation has been under control."

But it is only in small pockets (we are not going to tell you where), 16 provinces and metro Bangkok.
