Security heightened as extraordinary large number of mourners are due to arrive in Bangkok tomorrow to pay last respect in front of the royal urn

 

 

BANGKOK: -- As extraordinary large number of mourners in Bangkok and in upcountry are expected tomorrow to have the chances to pay their last respect in front of the urn containing the body of the beloved late King Bhumibol Adulyadej inside the Grand Palace, all security authorities are in full preparations to ensure safety and provide convenience but under heightened security checks.

 

The deputy prime minister in charge of security voiced concern over expected tremendous crowd of people to arrive at Sanam Luang on Saturday, the first day when the Bureau of the Royal Household announced to allow members of the public to pay respect to the late King at close range, in front of the royal urn at the Dusit Maha Prasit Throne Hall which is inside the Grand Palace.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan voiced concern over the expected extraordinary large number of the general public that will be arriving at the Throne Hall to pay their respects to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej tomorrow.

 

He said he was especially worried for the first 3 days when the Throne Hall will be opened to the public as the large number of people will be difficult to manage.

 

However he said he has given explicit instructions to all security officials to closely look after the safety and security in and around the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall when it is opened to the public.

 

The most concerned would be for the first 3 days from October 29 – 31 when the number of people arriving will be the highest.

For now His body rest in a casket. His body will be cremated but I m not sure when.

I understand that in the past the bodies of Thai royalty were put through a special process to enable them to be placed in an urn prior to cremation. However, the wife says that this will not apply to the remains of His Majesty King Bhumibol, which will be cremated in the casket.

I assume it will be after the mourning period. So not earlier than late next year (2017).

I hope the trafficpolice is also ready at Phra Pin Klao...this week the mourners just keep on crossing the street even while the light for the huge line of cars is green already...when the cars just start driving suddenly the police stopped them crossing the road. 

 

Why not install automated trafficlights with sensors like the developed world has?

 

And why the mourners all have to be brought into the city by coach? IT's far too busy already and the coaches totally jam all traffic and have to be parked on the roads.

They can park at the riverboat stops and come by boat...
