Citywire runs these examples..

this case involves 70 year old guy with 45 year old thai partner.. but wants to leave his money to his son..note the rules about where the thai wife is domiciled.
"A discretionary trust generates a chargeable lifetime transfer and the taxation of this depends on any chargeable transfers in the previous seven years. A failed potentially exempt transfer (PET), where the transferor dies within seven years of a gift, is a chargeable transfer. This means that the periodic charge under a discretionary trust could be inflated over the next 80 years because of a previous failed PET; so it makes sense for Gerald to establish the discretionary trust before gifting the further £50,000 to his son.
Of course, the situation is complicated by the fact that Gerald made a previous gift to his son and put his house in joint names, but the historical position is something that cannot be changed. In addition, no spouse exemption is available and even if they got married, Hoa is not UK domiciled and can only receive £55,000 (plus the nil rate band) free from IHT."
(yep, they could have chosen a better name for the thai partner...)

I would agree with lopburi...use the number of the new visa on the arrivals form. I would assume that as you have 2 different types of visa (O + O-A) that the officer will use the type you have stipulated. i had 2 visas of the same type (O) so it really made no difference which one he used. i was just pointing out that you can have over-lapping visas.
-
not exactly same circumstances ..but...
i am on multi entry non imm O...it expires 28/dec/2007
i was back in UK in july and applied for another..so that it ran to next summer (2008)
it was granted..old visa was not cancelled, and although i pointed out the new visa at thai immigration , he insisted on using the old visa until that expires.
so you can have two concurrent visas that overlap.

hmmm.. a karackdown.

are you sure?
as previous poster said...normally maintenance fee/+ green fee..
for eg...at Thana City...membership around 250,000 baht + 4000/ month + green fee (around 300 baht i think)(plus caddy fee of course)..played with someone there last weekend and those were figures he quoted..
think it would be worth getting it absolutely clear before handing anything over...

had my first "proper" golf lesson last weekend at the ex- david leadbetter academy at bangna on tanya city course..
the top instructor there is thai but taught for leadbetter in USA for several years...his english is excellent..
not cheap.. 3000 baht/hour for top guy...1500 baht for other pros.
during the week he teaches thai national team and a couple of the famous thai pros.
i was very impressed.... whole approach very proffessional.... you also get a dvd of your lesson with the pro talking over the top to use as a reminder..he splits the screen and puts you next to a pro..for me it was charles howell III ..it was hard to tell us apart...ahem...
feels like plenty before the lesson..afterwards it felt like reasonable value...
btw the guy is booked up..tricky to get a spot...
( oh i got nothing to do with him or the business) ..just wish i had...
cya on the asian tour...

Expert predicts no local rise in sea
(dpa) Global warming is not likely to cause the sea level in the Gulf of Thailand to rise because the body of water is too far from melting glaciers, a leading Thai hydrologist claimed on Monday.
Recent forecasts by the United Nations' Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - which predict a 40 centimetre rise in sea levels by the end of the century will cause flooding for up to 94 million Asians living in coastal areas - may not apply to the Gulf of Thailand, according to Suphat Vongvisessomjai, a former professor in water resources engineering at Bangkok's Asia Institute of Technology.
``The climate change panel's projection was wrongly accepted to apply to the Gulf of Thailand,'' Suphat told The Nation newspaper. ``We are too far from melting glaciers or ice sheets.''
Suphat added that, in fact, recent research shows that the average sea levels along some coastal provinces on the gulf have declined 0.3 to 0.6 centimetres over the past eight years.
The hydrologist, now an employee of Team Consulting Engineering, called on the public not to panic over the IPCC findings.
``The climate change panel did not deceive us or exaggerate. Its scientific findings are just based on the environment of their scientists, most of who live in Europe,'' he told the English-language daily.

HSBC will definitely send credit cards from the UK to their branch in BKK. Takes around 7 days. You need to pick it up in person with your passport.

I came back from Singapore on Monday, dressed smartly, and was stopped by customs. I was only carrying hand luggage and was asked why I had no other luggage. I explained I had been to Sing to visit my bank. My bag was checked and I was allowed to go.
I have no problem with that. In fact i'm pleased that they are actually seeming to do their job. Never been stopped here before though.

From screen to showroom
Actor Dom Hetrakul sees a starring role in his life for high-end motorcycle business
Pitsinee Jitpleecheep
Actor Dom Hetrakul is preparing to scale back his activity in front of the camera, saying he now intends to devote up to 60% of his time to his passion for business Mr Dom is the main shareholder in Britbike Co, an official distributor of high-end Triumph motorcycles from the United Kingdom, in the Thai market. He and his friends set up the company with initial registered capital of four million baht.
The 30-year-old TV star and scion of the family that owns the Daily News is following a well-worn path taken by other entertainers into businesses such as food, fashion, beauty, jewellery and spas.
Methinee ''Look Kate'' Kingpayom, for example, sells her own line of lingerie. Young actress Ann Thongprasom runs a kindergarten and Pattarapol ''Paul'' Silapajan has a health and fitness centre.
''I've been in show business for 12 years. Though I still find some excitement in entertainment, the Hetrakuls are not a showbiz family but a business family,'' Mr Dom said.
In addition to turning his passion for high-performance bikes into a business, the actor also has an event-organising venture that he aims to turn into a fully fledged creative house in the near future.
Before setting up his own company to market Triumph motorcycles, Mr Dom held a small stake in the local distributor of Ducati, another storied European motorbike name. He said that demand for high-end motorcycles had been rising steadily in Thailand for the last decade and he wanted to have a major part in an international business.
Still, he acknowledges that his celebrity status is a good selling point.
''I'm not quitting showbiz at the moment because it helps us with our reputation and our connections,'' he says.
Britbike will officially open its first Triumph showroom on Royal City Avenue, off Rama IX Road, on April 9. Three more will be added in Chiang Mai, Phuket and Pattaya by the end of this year.
The company will offer a dozen Triumph bikes including the popular Rocket III Daytona 675, along with Triumph parts, clothing and accessories. The motorcycles cost between 500,000 and 1.2 million baht, prices that Mr Dom says are 20-50% cheaper than rival brands. Triumph is competing locally against Harley Davidson, BMW and Ducati.
Mr Dom said that in the first two years, the company would focus on the affordable ''modern classic'' line of Triumph bikes and later provide high-performance models to keen enthusiasts.
''We expect Triumph will be a new alternative for customers who are considering a city car as a second vehicle, or for somebody who has never owned a motorcycle before,'' he said.
''We've received good feedback from local style and speed lovers with 14 motorcycles sold in the three months since our opening. Suprisingly, up to 75% of the customers who visit our showroom are newcomers.
In its first year, Britbike aims to sell about 70 bikes and earn 50 million baht.
''There are more than 1,000 big bikes on the road and the market is still in its early stage,'' said Mr Dom.

I was fortunately diagnosed as having a form of skin cancer. Fortunate in that I was in Bumrungrad for an operation on a disk in my spine and the doctor advised I have a spot on my back investigated. It proved positive.
I go back for 6 monthly checks. On my last visit I had several more moles removed and one of these proved positive also.
for your info, from walking into the dermitology department, waiting to see a specialist (20mins),,going upstairs for laser treatment (30mins),,,coming back down and paying... the whole episode takes less than 2 hours and hardly hurts at all. Cost about 7000 baht. That hurts a bit....
