  1. You only have one chance at life and if i was the pilot i wouldn't fly them either, they have a failing track record as passengers on flights and i dont care if their whole religion is not to blame the whole idea of terrorisim is to cripple the community at its core and to prevent freedom of life and travel so ironic its now backfired on muslims as well so sad....... NOT!!!

  2. This would read like the number of fines handed out to date by the Thai Police, maybe the report on statistics for Helmet Infringements Could read like this :

To date since 2009 a total of 7 traffic fines have been handed out in the whole of Thailand to riders and pillions not wearing helmets! See crime is under control ! No Tickets No Crime !

Tea Money is the best way to combat crime reports and paper work.

  3. <BR>The American Freightliner <BR>built by White and comparable to PeterBilt and Kenworth.<BR><IMG src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_h2HFSk-YN8U/SULubD3hdRI/AAAAAAAAAkY/s8JVd_BXWj0/S730/BOCOE.jpg"><BR><BR>
Cool now we are talking trucks, That picture is actually an FB freightliner, which is in fact a Peterbuilt rebadged as a freightliner !

Sorry just had to point that out. I know this well as i use to live in this one and on a hot balmy night in queensland nothing like jumping in the back to get some sleep as the engine heat after shut down turns the sleeper into a pressure cooker! Ah yes i miss those sweaty nights of uncomfortable sleep no doubt works a treat in northern America in winter!

  4. ... face facts ... Thailand is a nation of children.

... when dealing with Thais, I have the best outcome when I treat them as I would a 13-year old girl ... all of them ... from the captains of industry to taxi drivers ... everything becomes more clear for me ... their behaviors are better understood and their reactions are better anticipated.

... you cannot give democracy to a nation of 13-year old girls ... the outcome is predictable (witness exhibit 'A' ... uh ... present day Thailand).

... and, if democracy relies upon honesty, there will be no democracy in Thailand ... honesty is decidedly NOT a Thai cultural value ... honesty is not valued here ... full stop ... end of paragraph.

... as the monk Samana Bodhirak in the article cited, a benevolent "dictator" is better suited for Thais ... just as a parent is better suited for dealing with 13-year old girls.

... let's get real about this, eh? ... I think the monk got it right ... maybe Thais should throw democracy under the bus and return to old school, 18-century style absolute monarchy ... could they do worse?

Well put, talking with a fellow expat aussie the other day we came to this exact conclusion !

  5. I live in government housing here in Thailand misses is a nurse and she gets the house behind the Primary Care Unit , it comes with her job . I see lots of Huge Wastes of money in the health system here lots of holidays and SEMINARS !!! but they one that blew me away was all the saunas now at all the PCUs . Thats right SAUNAS, and they were provided by the local government hospital !!! Only answer i can work out is someone must be related to the seller of Saunas as im not really sure the primary care unit could use one specilly not here in summer !

  6. Some more pictures showing root development and some very low quality pictures of water with fish hiding in it. Rolled on some flat white to help with keeping the pipes as cool as possible come summer time this will make a big difference. It Doesnt look pretty but once the plants take hold wont be noticed ( Hopefully). The plant shown was thought to be dead during the teething stage but recovered in a matter of 4 days once the PH came into range and root growth was similar in responce 4 days to full recovery once PH was correct i never thought these plants would survive and have recovered so well i will leave them in. These plants were purely to teeth the system never even thought they would survive but now will most likely grow to harvest. Ill add more photos over comming weeks.

  7. Hi all, Just a few pictures of my Hydro set up, these photos were taken after about 2 days work after recieving the materials. I finally have the PH sorted as im using ground water it has taken some time to naturally ballance even after the fish had been in for a few weeks was still very alkaline but now the plants have started to recover well. One of the best things about Aquaponics is the ability of the fish to naturally balance the PH to a perfect range. Fish are growing nicely and the water is clearer ill loads some new photos up soon showing the changes i have made to counter a few minor issues along the way but all in all its worked out really well considering its my first attempt at this style of growing. Anyone want to know more or have any questions about this type of hydroponics PM me id be glad to share what i have learnt with this system.

  8. You have two options.

A: You make a recording of their party. Hire one of these walls of sound Thai people use at every occasion, when somebody gets married or dies, goes into the wat ow wants to dry her hair.

Play the sound of the party from 05:30 in the morning. Make sure they can hear it in Chiang Mai. You could even take a week off and have a clock installed to stop it at 24:00.

B: You move to a small romantic rural village in Isaan, like the one where I live. The last three weeks we had several funerals, three weddings and two persons joined the wat (on seperate occasions mind you). They start the walls of sound at around 05:30 when your neighbor is still snoring I guess, fifteen minutes after the wats bell. To avoid moments of silence, during the day, at least 15 cars pass, selling garlic, brooms, soy sauce, matrresses. They all try to kill the competition with portable walls of sound on their pick ups.

The village dogs are the only resistance. From the moment one of these sound pick ups turns into the village, they start howling untill peace returns in their sector.

Since a few weeks, a new type of sound pick ups have turned up. They shout numbers to help me learn the Thai numbers. So I shouted back: Loo lew. "I know alreay" My wife thought thas was rude because we have elections soon and I should not shout at the local politicians before they have distributed the money. Thai culture you know.

I hope this helps: Thai people drink, because at night they are afraid of the spirits. Noise will chase the spirits away. Unfortunately drinking attract the spirits who are keen on cheap Thai liquor. Understanding this riddle might be the beginning of a solution.

LMAO, You have precisely described the sounds of daily life in my village also, although the funerals far out number marraiges around here. Im thinking the only thing you left out was fireworks as im accross the road from the WAT and dont miss any blast from the 40 pounders they lob at funerals and the the ones that fly horizontal sizzling accross the bone dry forrest and paddy fields, its no wonder they have issues with wild fires here this time of year. Im also amazed with the noise polution sellers as some times i ask my TGF whats that guy on about its so over volume and distorted and she sometimes replies "I Not Know, i cannot understand him either" and i reply, oh i bet he sells alot then.

Just on that subject of Sound and Over Driven Volume Dials, Why Oh Why or How can anybody on earth enjoy music so loud its just noise ? My first baptism of fire here was at a local PCU going away party at lunch time, speakers that would be at home at a MOTORHEAD concert were there which took up as much room as the tables and chairs and once turned on never went below full throttle. I was lucky to be seated at the far end of the gathering about 5 meters from it never heard a word spoken for the rest of the day just deafening and distorted stactic ridden Noise. Can someone please explain to me WHY, why is this so intrenched in Thailand Culture ?

Dont get me wrong i love loud music that is audable and clear.

  9. Route21, I for one would love to be involve with such a scheme, even if it meant i could trade my border runs every 90 days to offset a few hours a week as a teachers aid type position and or a modest income for a 20 hour week. It would be easy to implement and im sure there would be plenty out there willing to cooperate with a few insentives and a bit of pocket money, Thai Education would gain more from it than it would ever cost them, not to mention what the kids would get out of it. Just hold very little hope that they will ever do it but you never know.;)

  10. More corruption lies and deception from the Land of Deception! Good Luck to the business owners in this country its on a slide that wont reveal itself fully for somtime and by the time the genral public fully grasp the vaccum this country is in it will be far too late and all the people that gained from it will be far away from the mess they leave behind such a shame. The powers that be may try but this country needs a shake beyond its borders to even start to set it on the correct path. It will never happen internally as most know because the rubbish will only be replaced with more rubbish the only way the systimatic collapse of the Kingdom could be haulted immediately would be for an external government to take over or for the country to turn into a socialist republic! I think the start would be sacking of all the police force and show cause for the sacking of all government officials followed by heavy testing and scrutiny of all government bodies and cival servants because from what ive seen in the public service sector here there are far more funds going out and very little effort being returned. All tests performed at just about any level of Thai services are all not worth the paper they are printed on, I am sick and tired of seeing test answers given the day before the test, No Body in this country can pass a test ligitimatly or should i say the fact is No Body can Fail ! Scariest of all in my eyes is in the medical area which i work, I won't go on about it but id never accept and credential from any Thai authorised practioner be they doctor or nurse!
