  1. Cain is a has been and there is a dark side to his character, which is now beginning to show itself during the 'circus'. The only man that can make America the Nation it has always wanted to be is Ron Paul. Honest, intelligent, an amazing patriot, fiscally aware he has great integrity and holds the constitution as the greatest thing. A true family man, he is the one! Even democrats should vote for Paul. Despite being conservative he will ensure the constitution is upheld and that would fulfill the requirements of any Democrat or Republican alike.

Couldn't agree with you more GJ. At least some sense and reason is out there

  2. Bangkok Bank is a great company and a great bank. They offer services that no other Thai banks do. The main benefit for me is that they have a NYC branch and a US bank routing number so that I can make regular transfers by computer to that NY branch and they plop that cash into my bkk bank acct here in thailand using the onshore exchange rate. No other Thai banks offer this simplicity. Also they send an SMS when the transfer is done with all details: how much in USD, the echange rate (a decent one) and how much in baht. I am very pleased with Bangkok bank. The fees for that service is $5 to the NY bank and 200 baht minimum fee or 500 max to bkk bank in thailand. It adds up because my US bank limits transfers to $2000 per time but that's not bkk bank's fault. The US bank charges $3 for the transfer so it ends up being $15 which stings a little bit but it's super convenient. Also if you wanted to do direct deposit of monthly checks, you could do it direct to that NY branch and same fees would apply but again bkk bank is the only bank that has this service. I think it kicks butt myself. It sure beats going to the ATM and withdrawing a $500 limit daily and depositing to bkk bank. I think they rock

Yea I initially chose Bangkok Bank for the same reason and I agree they do a great job. You ought to check out some other US banks. At Wells Fargo I can transfer 10k or 15k at a time depending on it being a one day or 5 day transfer.

Actually I use well fargo and they limit me to $2000 per transfer using the ACH transfer and they limit me to $6000 per 30 days. I also have Suntrust and they have the same $2000 limit per transfer but $10,000 per 30 days. Both charge $3 per transfer. So this method is convenient but ends up costing close to $15 after paying all 3 parties to transfer $2000 max each time. I don't really care because of the convenience of it all and the exchange rate is not bad. I have a brokerage account but they won't allow transfers to passbook savings accounts. That's too bad because with them there's no limits and no fees for transfers but for some reason they have a problem with passbook savings account transfers. Oh well

  5. I bolted out of there a week ago as basic supplies were running short due to panic buying. How's that situation going. I mean can I go into one of the three 7/11s and get a pack of water or some mamma noodles? I'll be back but wondering what Asok Foodland and Soi 11 Villa mkt or even Asoke Tops are looking like. Supplies getting in ok and all?

7-Elevens are the most dire, before and now... No improvement in their lack of essentials like water.

On the flip size, Villa Soi 11 and Foodland Asoke, as mentioned, are pretty close to normal... though bottled water and some other essentials may be short-handed.... But overall, pretty OK.

The problem is, you can't believe or trust anything the government is saying good or bad.. Just look at their track record thus far...

They've had recent warnings that the flood waters could/will at some point overflow the San Saep Canal that runs parallel to Sukhumvit Road on the Petchburi side... If that happens, it definitely could impact the Sukhumvit area.. But, it hasn't happened yet.

Right now, the flood waters are slowly moving south, and have reached the Mochit and Saphan Kwai BTS stations, with low levels of flooding there. Have no clue how it's going to play out in coming days.

Thanks for that info. The canal is a concern naturally

  6. That place went up dam_n quick. It's like the antithesis of the Sofitel next to the Thermae. That place has taking dam_n near a decade to complete. I remember when they smashed down Clinton Plaza in late 2002 and got started on that hotel in 2003. My god never seen anything take so long to build. Then of course we have the infamous condo-hotel at soi 13 that will be entering year 7 soon. Work must be stopped on that. I havent really checked closely. Since we're talking about the area, I was surprised to see the remnants of a started building that failed around the '97 crash finally torn down and cleaned up. I wonder what will be going there. I'm talking about the concrete remnants that were located on the even side of sukhumvit that you saw for eons cruising up the escalator to Nana bts. the eyesore in front of the Prince Hotel eyesore

  7. All dry except what is served in a cold glass. Best forecast is that all bar stoles will stay dry. This government has their priorities straight, Sukhumvit will be saved at all cost.

tourists dont come to Bangkok for the temples :whistling:

When they keep talking about Bangkok central will be spared they are talking about lower SUKHUMVIT

    The show must go on

  8. Hi

Just wondering what the status is of this area as I own several condos in the area and they are quite close to the canal. I'm pretty sure everything has been dry but really I have no info confirmed. It seems like this area is teflon from any water at all. Is that true? I'm pretty confident but want to know for sure
