amazing thailand never cease to me amaze me .
that is until every farang embassy will red flag thailand and put it with somalia as an unwise destination to travel to

please keep in my mind that tee money doesnot go in the pocket off the police man that extort it from road user ... most of it goes into the pocket of the kaptan of higher officer
1/ stess of not meeting tee money target set by Kaptan .
2/ stress to maintain life style of alcoholic gambling wife
regarding the suicide of exemplary officer who was well loved among his colleague .... maybe he was so exemplary that he didnot want to take part in the tee money racket and got shot by his loving colleagues for not being a team player .

got stopped by the police doing bkk to bua yai in a minibus doing over 140km per hour . my thai gf translated that the police asked the driver which company he worked for .. driver produced a buisiness card and on our way we went without any fine paid .... cost me 500baht when i got stopped on the same road doing 110km an hour in my rented car . minibus is 300 baht . i guess i ll stick to minibus now and carry a load of thai amulets with me for good measure
edit . forgot to rant about the large truck overtaking another truck which is already overtaking another truck on the steep part of the road before getting to the large lake / reservoir . speed goes down to 20
km an hour ... not so good when the minibus gets there at 140 km an hour .

. Eggplant is not "properly called aubergine" except by the British.
In India, which was the original source of eggplant, the proper name for eggplant, in English, is brinjal -- in USA, Canada, and Australia the proper name is eggpalnt.
That is the "truth" and "reality".
except by the british???
aubergine is a french word !!
(in portugese bringella , hindi brinjal or baingal ......similar enough to you?)
comes come catalan ( in spain) albergina
which in turn comes from arabic al-badinjan
from the persian badin-gan
which in turn comes from Sanskrit vatin-ganah ( back to india where it comes from where translation would be something like "stop wind " literaly the plant to stop farting. no kidding )
loads of similarities in the name
but here stands apart .....you guessed it "eggplant" !
nowadays used mostly in northern america but eggplant was firstly used in europe in the 18th century to design the white round type and not the elongated ones .
so aubergine or eggplant ?
aubergine seems to have a lot more history to me but please call it whatever you want for all i care . i dont even like the bloody fruit ( yep not a veg but a fruit) . who eats aubergine anyways ;-)
can someone restart a soccer / football debate please ;-)

Hello
read about import duties on the forum but cant find an answer to my case.
i spend around 1 month in thailand and 2 month in uk and so on all year aaround .
no visa just 30 days stamp . ( quiet a few )
i want to bring my second hand paragliding equipment ( wing harness reserve helmet bought in UK ) next time with me ( 18 kilos all good) and leave it there with my thai girlfriend ( got a kid with her and )
i dont even know if i am meant to declare my equipment on entry in thailand or get a declaration by uk customs upon leaving uk .
cause i dont plan to bring it back to uk this time it seems a bit tricky .
will i get charged import duty ? or am i just being silly and i can bring it in and out at my convenience without the fear of being taxed ?
any help appreciated .
thanks

As you are an EEA national (French) exercising your treaty rights to live in another EEA state (the UK) your wife can apply for an EEA family permit to join you in the UK.
I think that as he is your infant dependent and wont be exercising treaty rights in his own right that you will also need to get one for your son, even if he does have a French passport, but I'm not sure.
EEA family permits are free, so applying for your son wont cost you anything, even if it's not necessary.
thanks so much
most helpfull ,

you only got ripped off $100 USD on koh tao? lucky you
count your stars lucky and move on with your life
already moved on . bought a wave 125 in chumpon. ;-)
just trying to have people not to fall in the same trap.
my advice: rent a old motorbike that is scratched all over the place!
-
Hello Everybody
just thought i would open a topic about places that rape you when you rent motorbikes.
as you all know the common practice when renting a motorbike in los is to leave your passport as a deposit against any damages that you might do to the bike. without your passport you are off course hostage to the rent shop that will inevitably find a sratch on the bike that according to them will justify to exchange the part fpor a brand new one.
many tourists had to bite the dust on that one . so i thought we could all post here a list of places to avoid, maybe loosing buisness will return some form of ethical practice among those black sheeps.
i personally have had bad experiences on koh tao twice. please understand that trying to be clever and pop to the mechanic to get the part at a far lower price than the one quoted by the shop ( usually around 4 time more expensive ) will be a bit of a hit or miss as most of the mechanics have been told not to fix rented motorbike if a farang brings it in. yep absolutely disgusting
so far i got raped by:
SANTA TRAVEL in the main street in maehaad that charged me 1200bhat for a side mirror ( cost price in chumpon is 150bhat)
LEDERHOSENBIKES ( so called respectable german owned shop at the top of mae haad main street) wouldnot give me back my passport if i didnot pay 2500bhat for a scratch on the breack handle. avoid them at all cost if you dont want to be abused and physically threatened. but dont take my word for it , just google lederhosenbikes review.
on a more bright note, i rented a motorbike at Goodluckshop ( by the songserm peer) and scratched the exaust cover. the owner wanted 800bhat but was more than happy to let me order the part and fix it myself. which i did , it cost me 700bhat . so only a 100bhat mark up if i let the owner change it. that is HONESTY , which is getting harder and harder to find in Koh tao.
i really hope this topic will be sucessfull , well it should be if you consider the amount of people getting conned this way everyday over there

Chiang Mai Deadly Hotel " Downtown Inn " Still On All Booking Website
in Thailand Travel Forum
Posted · Edited by livil
Hello
after keeping reading about all those suspicious death at the chian mai inn hotel i looked on booking and review wesite to see if it is still there.
imagine my rage and disbelief as i found it discribed as a little gem on trip advisor .
agoda, asiaroom and so on are still offering booking for it ! this is beyond belief!!!
i submited a review to trip advisor as i went there last year ,
let see if they submit it .
i do encourage people that do feel thisis unacceptable to do the same .
find below the text of my review to trip advisor shall they think my review is not acceptable .
regards
went there last year a few days /
usual hotel , nice swiiming pool . soso service and cleaniness,
but that is not the point .
how come this hotel is still onthis website?
how come you not take it off assoon of possible of your listings?
7 death in 2 months , jus google it !!!!!
as usual thai police not wanting to give bad reputation to thailand hospitaly service is closing eyes on this and reort " natural cause fo the death of all those tourists"
7 separate death occured during the last 2 months . not a group of tourist in one go .
feel free not to post this eview if you want , but please take out this listing or issue a health warning . if would be a shame that tripadvisor be responsible in a certain way for any more casualities.
everybody knows that thai people tend not to face responsabilitly when something bad happends due to the not loose face culture and more probably in this case not lose big money culture but this is not the way to do thing from a reputable website as yours!!!
kindly Djakatan
ps apologies for any ortography mistake ,
a/ i am not a native english speaker
b/ i am writing this in a fury to see this hotel still on all the booking website
edit
here is the ling to my pending review
