  1. Thailand - IF NOT NOW, THEN WHEN?

Millions of people are scared. Thailand relies of Chinese tourism.  Everyone is wearing protection, a face mask. When will it end?

Are WE waiting for a specific announcement to feel safe...when?

I put a challenge out there for anyone that can rebuke what I am proposing.

For the good of Thailand and it’s millions upon millions of caring people, the top officials of the Thai government Health Ministry and elsewhere within the Thai government at the highest level should awaken to the opportunity that now presents itself.

What better time then now for the government to enact law for ALL persons in eateries, food establishments, those that handle and prepare food be required to where industry standard hand protection, such as gloves.  If not now then when?

This opportunity enacted by the health department could lift the entire country to a new health standard.

    Some examples of the Benefits:

*gloves act as a barrier for germs

*gloves prevent the spread of food poisoning pathogens

*gloves prevent the transmittal of various strains of cold and flu

*gloves prevent transmittal of viruses, making them essential in preventing food poisoning outbreaks

    *minimizes health risks

*perception of cleanliness, not the perceptions of uncleanliness

    *good practice

*positive image seen by all, including tourists

*attract attention, potentially attracting more business

*minimizes business risk to owner(s), and management

    *common sense

*it’s the right thing to do.

    IF NOT NOW, THEN WHEN?

Thailand government officials can make this happen. If they make it happen, it will bring Thailand higher to global health standards.

If Thailand does nothing, if Thailand does not make it happen. It will be many many years and generations of lower health standards for the country.

I think it is a fair question worth asking: At what point will Thailand act to improve conditions, and minimize potential health risks that we are all faced with today?  If not now, then when?

Collectively, we should all want this. Our goal is for this message to get the attention it deserves, at the highest possible level within the Thai government, that have full responsibility for considering this very important step to improve the safety and health of all of us NOW!

    Thank you for your attention.

  2. My gf was denied to the states. Has business kids mi st the wile nine. They saw BF on the application and said NO!. Her sister applied a week later has no business no kids no money in the bank and said she was just gonna sight see with a friend from work APPROVED 10 year visa. My point. Tell your GF to do my GF's sister did and meet her in NY

Just curious, are you living in Thailand and with your gf?

  3. Thai local are not being required to provide their personal bank account information. Applying for a 1-year visa requires me to provide evidence that I have the required funds in my account. Beyond that, I would expect that if they are requiring this new information then they will have to have a good explanation. How secure is your personal information in the hands of the immigration and or their servers? They cannot even get he 90 day online working.

  4. My view is that it is not necessarily a Scam. If for example the OP had with him a photo of the product/ package from his last purchase he would have had that one piece of additional information to perhaps make a more informed decision before his purchase. I think he assumed that the company was out to get him, and trick him. Things like this go thru some people's mind, especially if you're mind is looking for a promotion.

  5. Just leave it alone and it will go away - they are not aggressive snakes if not cornered.

I see many cobra snakes on my land; as long as I make a noise whilst walking in the grass, they slither away quickly and I won't accidentally disturb one.

Just leave it alone and it will go away

I don't want it to go away, I want it to go away & never come back

That's why I will kill it - this also prevents it from setting up a family on our land.

they are not aggressive snakes if not cornered

Problem being that if you have dogs, they will corner it.

One time I went to look at what was happening, a cornered cobra spit towards me.

Anyway, why do have some people a problem with killing cobras?

We kill mosquitoes, ants, rats don't we?

You can check the net for different methods for trapping. If you kill it you will gain a false sense of security. I'm sure in time there will be more. The Cobra comes there for its own reason.

  6. Go to the U.S. Embassy and get the details.....details which will also include the fine print. LIke NeverSure said I can't image someone wanting to give up their U.S. citizenship and the associated benefits unless they are trying to avoid something like taxes owed. If it's a concern over dual citizenship and maybe plenty of misinformation/beliefs about dual citizenship, dual citizenship is perfectly legal in Thailand and the U.S.,, although like most countries neither Thailand or the U.S. encourage it...but it's perfectly legal. Even my Thai wife holds dual Thai and U.S. citizenship.

I have a baby (born in Thailand) and the Father is US Citizen. I was told that if I apply and complete the correct papers that my child can hold both Thai and US status however, when the child turns 18 years of age they are required to relinquish on the them. So now I am confused when you state that it legal or are you stated that under certain conditions it is legal?

  7. Use the money exchange to get yourself the necessary documents they will charge a few thousand, they will need to see the contract.

Money Exchange? You mean an FX kiosk or Moneygram or Western Union. Just curious.

    Contract, contract provided for WP?

Plain and simple. When transferring funds from your bank from abroad to a Thai bank the EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) document must state the purpose. Example: These funds are for the purchase of a Condo. This is the most simple method without having any issue.

  8. I just bought a Condo off the lan on Soi 31 using only THB funds that I had made while employed in Thailand on a work Visa. You do need to provide a lot of documents egg. Work permit, letter of earnings from employer. At the end I have a canote in my name and a Blue Ban Book all done with Thai Baht mad in Thailand. So it can be done.

Blue Book does you no good if your a foreigner. You should not get a yellow book.

  9. They could gladly come to Hua Hin and clean out all the Soi dogs around my house. It's so bad some times I have to carry a stick walking down the road.

Oh no....I can hear the bleeding hearts already. coffee1.gif

If it's that bad get a condo??? no dogs--and the book in your name---killing 2 birds with 1 stone----Yes your right it's NOT my business.

SO NOW IT'S OK TO KILL BIRDS?

  10. The ministry advised that in the event of children being left unsupervised in a car for a long period of time, members of the public are urged to call the 1669 hotline before removing children from the vehicle as soon as possible.

    WRONG!

Remove child first by breaking any and all windows, when child is safely out call the 1669 hotline (they should have changed that, it is an appalling pun)

Also we must put this in perspective. This is a totally brutal dreadful way for anyone to die let alone a toddler but this happens everywhere. Another poster mentioned somewhere on the other thread that 32+ children die like this every year in the USA. Never expect anything from stupid people and you will never be disappointed. The public need to be aware and they need to act fast. In the climate here, children should never be left in a locked vehicle for any length of time. If I see it, even on the high street, I will take the special hammer out of my car and 'release' the children and then call the police.

Just One Point: How about checking the doors to see if they are unlocked before Breaking windows and causing more stress for the victim?

    Murray. CNX.

I believe that many of us foreigners need to better understand that the stupid things we read about in Thailand have a lot to do with the mentality or deficiencies within the Thai persons brain. I estimate that approximately 70% are simply lazy. For the most part Thai people are not stupid but they obviously think differently about things. Ask any Thai a question, even a simple one and I bet you will find that you will never get a direct answer. (And I'm not saying ask them in English. Ask the question in Thai) They always seem to go around the answer by telling you something else, different than what you have asked. When they mess up and do a poor job, they never apologize or admit any wrong doing. This proves that they think differently then in the West. They are not easy to teach especially when they have a job needing to be done. They don't seem to really care so much about work. If you go into a shopping mall or shop don't be surprised to see about half-a-dozen just standing around either talking or doing nothing at all. I do not think this will change for a long long time. I think that the reality is, we foreigners live here in their world and it is extremely difficult to cope with all the seemingly stupid things they do. I lived in China and many Chinese don't have a lot of common sense but at least when they do a job they take it serious. Thai people (the 70%) cannot wake up and recognize that for every problem they try to fix, they create two or three more problems. I could go on and on with story after story but I think you get my point. My only hope is that the Thai's get my point! Even the ones that graduate from universities don't come out ready to be competitive in this global environment. I am retired now, have worked in BKK and have been coming here for 28 years so I think I have seen a lot and can voice my opinion with a certain amount of truth. Please Thai people, we love Thailand but WAKE UP and try to learn something from developed countrymen. You will not lose face, at a minimum you will improve yourself. I say this with all due respect because I have many close Thai friends that I care about very much.

  11. Property is a big term, a non-Thai cannot hold land but can for instance hold a house. A Non-Thai can inherit land also, but must sell it within 1 year.

Further it is possible to establish a usefruct on the land.

My understanding is that a non-Thai can inherit the land for the rest of their life but only for that generation and cannot be transferred or inherited by the next generation. But best to check with a real estate attorney

  12. For all the foreigners with your so called "good ideas", why not give up your retirement visa and get a business visa and work permit and start working for Thailand's government? Do you really think Thailand wants to hear your ideas? I don't think so...They will do what's best for them and not for you. Thailand is slowly sucking you dry and taking your money and then someday youl will have none.

  13. Yeah this strong baht is sure scary...I hate the way it helps lower my electricity costs smile.png

    From the "other paper";

"The fuel tariff (Ft) for electricity will be slashed by 9.8% or 5.12 satang per kilowatt-hour from May to August thanks to the appreciation of the baht and lower gas prices, says an energy regulator."

Inflation isn't rising and even at the worst time of the financial crisis it didn't touch 10%; take a look

If you wouldn't mind please explain because our electricity in Chiang Mai went up starting this month. How do you figure the price is lower?

  14. Thank you all once again for your inputs ......and laughs. When I say laughs, I'm referring of course to the childish comments ....."but something tells me the OP was just phishing for awe inspired responses at his proposed generosity and his (self-described) luxurious dilemma" ..... or maybe I have...... "taken a "Schtum Powder". (whatever that is but I can guess). If it was as the the first comment describes I should think this is the last place I would post it. I only mentioned certain things to put people in the picture. By the way, I also think for most people....if they woke up this morning..."then their problems are luxury problems....because it's a special day ...we are alive and not take oneself too seriously (waiting for the smart-alleky comments already to that one, but i did say for MOST people so please note.)

Getting back to the topic, I really do appreciate your inputs and feel I should fill you in more. I am not a businessman here, I came here 11 years ago and loved it so much I went home after my holiday, sold my house and bought 3 condos here, lived in one and rented the other two, I have no other income so am not a wealthy man with big money in the bank. My partner from home came and looked at Pattaya and said it was a town for "men only" and could never live here. As we had a platonic relationship for the previous 20 years anyway it was easy to agree that she live at home with her family and I live here...and we have remained the best of friends ever since. About a year ago I decided that as she had looked after me through a long illness while we were together I wanted to do something for here now and not wait any longer (she is still working but plans to retire soon). So I told her I had sold the condo and taken 500,000 Bt deposit, the balance to be paid by this July. I gave her 250,000 Bt out of my own money thinking I could easily sell the condo within a year and rent it for that high season at the same time. Everything went according to plan, i rented it for the high season but failed to sell it since the start of the low season. So then I tried to sell the house instead, but that didn't move either. It is not a matter of life and death that one or the other sells, it's just that I would like to keep my word on giving her her remaining 2MB when she comes in August, she thinks the condo is already sold.

As I said in my first post, I had considered a bank loan but to be honest, at my age 64 I fear getting into debt especially after the stories I hear over here and possibly I would be dead before it was repaid and the bank would then have the condo for 2MB.

The idea of leasing the house for 30 years was interesting as the poster said the lessee would probably be dead before that, does he not think my chances of being dead before that are just as lightly.

Really lads...thanks for all your help including you too Razzamataz, I did find your contribution interesting so stop jumping to wild conclusions about my not posting, I really didn't think there would be so much interest shown in it (I'm not used to it).

I just wanted to keep it simple and maybe throw it out there in case somebody had an idea I hadn't thought of, I'm always willing to take advice.

One last thing before i go, how I ended up with the house....I met a Thai lady about 4 years ago and thought "this is it" so I wanted to set up a "proper" home with she. I sold a condo, bought and renovated the house and everything was fine until she learned I was putting the house in a company name. About 4 weeks after doing so ....she was gone.

So if you cannot find 2MB for me perhaps one of you could find a good wife for this poor lonely man.....on second thoughts.......it would be easier to find the 2 MB.......THAT'S A JOKE BEFORE YOU START JUMPING DOWN MY NECK AGAIN...................Cheers.

Everything with you and your story seems perfectly normal and understandable. I cannot understand why so many jump so fast to make another story to their liking. Good luck to you Joseph7. Everything has a way of working out and I have to believe it will for you.

  15. From the article:

Kwanjai Khempradab, one of 20 finalists in this year’s Miss Maxim pageant, has been ejected from the competition, following the release of a video clip in which she instructs a young boy to inhale Ketamine.

The video, in which she poured powder into a THB20 banknote and offered it to the boy, has been shared widely online and eventually broken into mainstream media.

She may also face a five-year prison sentence if she is convicted of having violated the computer-related crime law.

So I guess feeding the kid horse tranquilizers is okay, and posting the video is what she did wrong?

She's being prosecuted for violating computer-related laws because there's no way to tell what the substance in the banknote was.

She could easily claim that the substance was something innocuous and there'd be no way to disprove it.

Using a bank note and defacing the King for starters. It's a moral crime exposing a 5 yr. old, demonstrating such behavior and treating it like it's acceptable.

  16. It is true that Bangkok can have some bad haze days, but it could be much worse. 2 stroke motorcycles are long gone and soon all diesel busses will be replaced by CNG busses. Hopefully tuk tuk's will be next to leave the city.

From memory I feel it was worse 10 years ago, so it is slowly getting better.

Memory loss is one of the top indicators from breathing bad air. :)
