  1. i only lived liked that to see if i could do it..... and i did, even tho i had plenty of money.. easy when you know how . not living like that again tho, it was hard. living it up next time (well in august) to about 15,000-20,000 baht a month lol

the water rates were like 7 baht or somthing close to that and 20- baht for electricity. There is hundreds on places like these just gotta get out the main tourist areas. my thai friend used to do my laundry for free :)

thai sim card 49 baht. 50 baht every 2 weeks on it. cheaper to call than txt too.

2 large bottles of water 20 baht from 7/11.

used my thai friends computer for internet. or 100 baht for 10 hours worth..

    beer 7/11...25 baht onwards

  2. I refuse to believe this, 40,000 baht for 8 months.

The poster may have been on some sort of starvation ritual to get from 500 lbs to sub 200.

Rent 2,000 baht per month, no mention of water and electric, that leaves 100 baht per day, to buy food water soap shampoo etc etc, sorry the above is BS.

Can only assume you werent a hansum man, now I know why the term farang kee nok was termed.

100 baht per day is really easy to do.

I took the advice of another poster today and went outside my front door and set foot in possibily the most beautiful place on earth, the 3 metre high wall obscured my view somewhat, any way I ventured out into the street.

Breakfast, bowl of jok and bottle of water 30 baht.

Lunch, guay tiaw and bottle of water 40 baht.

Dinner, kao man gai (piset) and bottle of water 40 baht.

Thats me at 110 baht already, and havent been anywhere or done anything.

I am now starving, typing this as the mrs knocks me up some food.

As the poster above says 100 baht a day real easy to do, 1,000 baht per day is even easier to do.

For those who can survive or exist on 100 baht per day, what exactly are you doing all day?

You guys must be the new high quality tourists we keep hearing about, but have never seen.

    shame about the wall lol

2 large bottles of water for 20 baht deal at 7/11's

    bowl of jok 10 baht

khow phat kai 35 baht for dinner

phat thai 20 baht or ommlette on rice 20 baht

boat to see some scenery or just a day out 12 baht around the river

the price of being a back packer haha

  3. You can live so cheaply if you needed to in bangkok. i dont get why people say its expensive. 'tight <deleted>'

thai style room, 2,000 baht a month, get your own shower in your room... all good

food venders are cheap as hel_l startng from 10 baht...

to travel get the boat along the river, 12 baht.

    beer from 7/11, 25b onwards

i was spending 5,000 baht a month and i was doing so much site seeing and other things along the way.

i didnt need to live cheap but saved so much cash at the end to spend on presents for myself, family and friends

i stayed for 8 months in thailand.. cheaper than back in england. :)

5000 a month in bangkok? No chance.

  4. i think all of these posts are from people trying to advertise their school. checked out some links, not all of them work and most are utter cods wallop

anyone got any real info on langauge schools in bkk?

    jay

So did you decide to forgo learning Thai because the courses are cods wallop???

i actually want to learn thai "Colabamumbai". most of the time on these types of forums are just the schools advertising there own business. I want to know some real feedback from the languages course that people have completed or tested out.

if anyone has can they post there thoughts about the courses where they learned thai.... (bangkok only please) thank you

    jay

I told you before Thailanguagesoutions where I go to school they are on the internet and can be reached on skype and telephone, they will tailor a course for you. It cost you nothing to call them on skype and talk with them. Thailanguagesolutions does not advertise on this site. The owner does not post on this site. I have no vested interest I am a student from Canada.

the course sounds pretty good. i will be giving them a ring shortly

    cheers

  8. i too got done by the airport scam the first time i went, 900 baht for the "limo" haha, always get the bus now for 150baht or get my thai friend to pick me up for free :)

the tutk tuk's are pretty bad where ever you go but. i will never get one again unless its goin to a nightclubs for free :D.......

I met many falang who have been there for years scamming with the tuk tuk drivers. They find a tuk tuk driver and say they will make a deal with them if they go to all these jewelery or tailor shops with them if they can split the money they get from the commission, i wouldnt pesonally do it myself but they were making 2000 baht a day somtimes more.

I do hate the the double pricing tho.. so is that true if u get a driving license or have a work permit u get the thai price???

  9. no problems with them at all. i have a few lady boy friends. alot of the trouble are started by them tho. only thing i have to add to this.... i think they should tell you if they are ladyboys before trying to bed you beacause it is deception after all

    they are intersting creatures :)

  10. when i was staying in chiang mai i came out of a 7/11 and just as i had walked out the door this thai man drove into this guys bikes which was off the pavement. the bike happend to belong to a western guy,a falang anyways. he asked me to stay to be a witness, so i agreed. the police turned up and charged the falang 15,000 baht. didnt take any notice of what i was saying. even tho the bike was under the jeep, the thai man said it was the falangs fault. haha. if you had any commen sence the police would put 2 and 2 together.....

he couldnt do anything but pay the fine, nothing else he could do.

    bad times

  11. alot of you are sad for trying to project your views on others. if people want to wear an amulet, let them, its their choice not yours. keep your opinons to yourself.

they will be many reasons why westerners want to wear amulets. mocking other peoples views is childish behaviour..... leave it at that

    regards

  12. a few questions for you!

im currently trying to find a decent language school in bkk but im not sure what to do first

do i need to get a ED visa before i go? or just get one at the language school,

should i just go over with a 30 day tourist visa straight off the plane then find my school? or should i get a non immigrant 'O' visa? just not sure what to do, and i know from experience that the visa system in thailand is very daunting at times

any help would be greatly appreciated

    thank you

  13. i wear an amulet and never take it off. there is a reason behind it. when i was staying chiang mai, i was having really bad nightmares about getting dragged out of bed by demons, often i would wake up on the floor. one day when i was sat in one of the parks and a buddist monk came up to me and said that "i have bad energy around me" in near enough perfect english, i was quite shocked at this. he took an amulet of his own neck and give it to me saying its will bring me luck and protect me, he didnt want no money just smiled and walked off. so i thought i would test it out and ever since ive never had nightmares. im not a religious man but when i take the amulet off the nightmares come back.... they creep me out big time, thats the reason why i never take it off, ive also been hit by a car and just got up with only a few scratches, i cant decide wheather im lucky or unlucky

Heyyy there; why don't you "gear down big shifter". .. :D

FWIW: I spent a hellova lotta time going to the various and sundry thai language schools scattered around bangkok to see what's what. I try to give fair reviews of what I perceive their strengths and weaknesses are.

BTW: I get NOTHING from any school to write my reviews, mostly because they are my opinions, and may run contrary to a schools perception of their material and method of teaching thai.

MOST of the links I've posted to the various schools work.

You could also use a nifty thing called "Google" and try typing in "thai language schools bangkok". :)

Welcome to Thai Visa; for your first post you've certainly come out swinging. :D

(please do your part for global warming and turn out the light when you leave thailand :D )

I didn't mean to come out swinging by any means. but most of the forums are pretty much the same with false claims or people advertising their schools under false pretenses. thats is all im saying

"gear down big shifter" elaborate please :D

Ive got a list of schools i will be checking out that ive found through the internet and friends.

i'll keep an eye on some of your post mr

p.s i will turn out the light from now on :D

    regards
