I didn't read where it is free, but hope it is. Also, the will try (if possible) to make the app in English. Also, if you've been in Thailand for a while, you will know that what the gov't says and what actually happens are two different things, especially when it comes to expats. I'll believe it when I see it is the best way to avoid disappointment.

You're in a COVID wave that was caused by your government's stupidity in allowing Songkhran travel, and now you want to tax what would help get you out of that wave? Stupidity squared. Greed cubed.
Or....was that the plan to increase revenues? Not sure they would think that far ahead but when it comes to putting money in their pockets....

My other half had to register for her parents on the Mor Chana app. No way in hell could they or their friends do it themselves they just dont have the knowledge.
They were told becuaee of their age they will get the AZ jab in June. I would be pleasently suprised if they did though.
The best attitude to take, for sure! Although my wife registered me on the Mor Prom app, and I'm still unclear whether they'll let me get the shot, I am hopefully optimistic but will believe it when it happens, not a moment before.

Yes it has, if you follow the news...????
July is a long way off. I would be concerned that what is said now by the Thai gov't may not be what, in actually, happens.

I am more than happy to wait until I am able to be vaccinated in a private hospital in the same way that I was vaccinated against flu, shingles & pneumococcal infections, at my own expense. So Americans just need to grow up and accept responsibility for themselves. After all you dont want any socialism your country so can't expect a nanny state to care for you when you live outside of it
The response should be proportional. Since there is a global pandemic, I would fully expect the US to help expats, in this instance.

Emotions run high when it comes to covid, I try to take it easy:
1) Thailand has been slow to acquire vaccines, this is likely partially due to the success they had last year.
2) Thailand will acquire enough vaccines, question is when. Thailand is the kind of place that can make
vaccinations mandatory. I fully expect mandatory vaccination for annual extension of stay, we will see.
3) I have not seen any flip-flops. Until they actually have vaccines I take all pronouncements as early speculation about policy, political pandering, out of context or fake news.
4) Vaccine rollout? I won't be critical, when has a massive rollout of anything affecting every citizen in a country gone smoothly from day one? I don't even consider what has happened to date as a rollout, I look at it as preparation for a rollout. I don't expect it to go smoothly, I expect confusion. In the end, most folks will line-up and get the jab, all the nonsense news will be forgotten.
5) Assuming enough vaccine is available, I would expect that everyone can pretty much get vaccinated within about a 6 month period.
6) I consider the schedule to be anywhere from 6 -9 months from availability, Yes it can be achieved.
7) Yes of course foreigners will be able to be vaccinated. We just don't know the exact details. To be fair even the Thais are scrambling around just now, confused..
While the government vacillates on procuring a vaccine, people are dying from this virus.

She used line, on the first day it was open for registration, May 1st Had to try three times...apparently there was so much response that the server or whatever couldn't handle it.

I'm thinking the same as Australia, New Zealand and Thailand. Cases were all very low so vaccinations were not a priority as the rest of the World needed the limited supply more?
Result is that countries that achieved the most success in preventing the virus are now amongst the least vaccinated countries in the World...

Protects a human from contracting and spreading the virus or protect someone who contracts the virus from getting really sick. Plus when a vaccine developer and manufacturer tells you that their studies prove a nn% efficacy, I'd simply counter with "The manufacturer has a significant conflict of interest" and as such I'll believe their own numbers as far as I can throw them. The only data I'm going to trust is data from independent studies conducted by researchers and institutions who have absolutely no conflict of interest or connections (financial or otherwise) with the manufacturer/patent holder.
So I'm not too moved by the whole "efficacy" debate one way or the other. Given time, like five years, we'll know. In the short term? Believe what makes you feel "safe." Pump into your own arm what you're personally willing to trust. And don't worry about what your "brother" is doing. Concentrate on yourself and be happy.Efficiency means the ability of a person taking that vaccine NOT acquiring severe symptoms, including death. Therefore, % efficiency is an excellent measure as to how effective the vaccine will be in reducing cases and mortality, and move to the concept of herd immunity. It is also an excellent way to compare difference vaccines for the same disease. The manufacturer does not have a conflict of interest, because they don't run the studies when the vaccine is made available to the general public.
Me, given the choice, Sinovac is way, way down on the list. It is better than nothing but why settle for 4 or 5th best?

Thailand was not proactive in assessing the extent of the virus, trying to assure everyone that is was contained. Since there was, and continues to be, no countrywide free testing, the government has no idea what the infection rate is. Better to keep your head in the sand and hope it goes away.

That Thailand is betting on the SInovac, with an efficiency, based on Brazil, at around 50%, is telling. Backing the wrong horse. in a life or death situation.

Geez, they're coming up with this only now? Thailand has be amazingly slow in developing vaccination plans. I guess they were hoping the virus would magically pass right over the country.

The wife got me registered (66 years old) on Monday after trying three times. (apparently the server was overloaded with requests). June 10th is my jab date. Had to use my ID from the yellow book (showing residence). From what I understand, anyone over 60 and living in Thailand can register. Not sure what the vaccine will be but believe it to be astraveneca. The wife, being under 60 with none of the 6 or 7 pre-existing conditions (diabetes, hypertension, cancer, etc.) has to wait until July to register with shots starting around August.

It's unfortunate that Thailand seems to be relying, at present, on Sinovac, one of the worst vaccines one could receive. And, if I remember correctly, the reason they are so late in getting vaccines was because they didn't pre-order, but wanted to wait to make sure the vaccines worked (and, in consequence, pay a higher price). While Sinovac may be better than nothing, with so many others available, why go for one of the worst?

Turns out I had to get a yellow book. Once I had that, no problem with the social security office...but without the yellow book I would not have been able to extend my gov't insurance. This was in Phetchaburi.

Sorry for the vague title, but I've run into a bit of a problem. I taught in Thailand for 10 years, retired in March and am living in Thailand with my wife. In March, we went to the Social Security office in Phetchaburi, because I wanted to continue my health insurance that I had at my school. The person at the SS office said no problem, you just need to keep paying 450 Baht every month (after a 6 month grace period) and you will have the insurance.
Sure enough, just got back from the Social Security office and they now say, no, you must have a yellow book from our house in Surin (what if I rented???), bring it back to the SS office and then I get the insurance. I emphasized to my wife to tell the Social Security person that I have a retirement visa, AND that this is NOT what he said in March, when he said, "Just come in, it's easy'.
Anyway, has anyone else found themselves in the same situation, or have knowledge of this?
Any help would be appreciated.

I currently have a Non-imm B (teaching) and will change that to Non-O based on marriage in the future. I was told by immigration that before applying for the marriage visa, I must leave the country and enter with an O visa. Does this sound right to you seasoned vets?
That is not correct.
You can change the reason for your extension of stay to marriage from teaching without leaving the country to get a non-o visa. You will need a termination letter to cancel your current extension so you can apply for a new one.
Thanks UbonJoe. I didn't think this sounded right, so will double check with immigration. Also, I really appreciate your feedback, as well as others.

Thanks to all who replied; I appreciate the information. I am slowly wading though this process. Went to immigration in Petchaburi...the women there was helpful but only in answering my direct questions.

Thanks for the information. Based on your wisdom, and, even tho' I am small potatoes to the IRS, I'll do a joint file.
Sorry for the late reply of appreciation...was in Surin visiting the in-laws.

Hi,
This year I have to file federal income taxes to the IRS. I am married to a Thai women who does not work. Do I have to tell the IRS that I am married? We have a Thai marriage certificate, but not a US marriage certificate. Can I file as a single?
Thanks for the help.

Finally, is it possible to get a visa on arrival at the airport?
