  1. I just cant see enough people frequenting this place once the novelty disappears, certainly not many of the 50,000 or so registered Thai's and cant see to many Farang residents parting with cash they dont have to. Tourists maybe so but then nobody comes to Samui for shopping not at a mall anyway.

  2. Visual is the best deterrent in my opinion, no need to bury your head in the sand. Governments use it frequently, just look at the warnings on cigarette packets. Ghoulish? Perhaps, but it's there to convey a message & try to save some lives.

You might have a good point if we were talking about a national road safety campaign, but we're not. We're talking about a forum read mostly by locals who are all too aware of the road carnage.

The fact is that some people get their jollies by writing about this stuff. You can tell who they are, they are the guys that breathlessly post "Accident near xxx road falangs killed!" without even waiting for a news report to link to.

So lets all live in Fantasy Land and brush all the bad things about the Island under the carpet?

That's what generally happens here more to do with people painting a glossy picture taking care of their own interests. The phrases "it happens everywhere" or "that could happen anywhere" are whilst true they are overused. Maybe the point is when its a regular occurrence what should be done about it some thing or nothing.

  3. Why not, can't handle real life, the truth? Motorbike crashes aren't funny and don't look nice.

In the olden days, police sometimes, when caught when driving around without a helmet, police on Samui didn't fine you, but you had to loom at their picture book of motorbike accidents. A very sobering collection of pictures.

If more people would be forced to do this or just did it out volunteerily, a lot of people would view driving a motorbike differently and probably change their attitude/style whilst on a bike.

Some people who may have never visited these parts of Thailand before may come to this forum and sub forum for information. Stories su had this paint a false picture about the island in general. What your implying is it's ok to turn this forum into bestgore.com. If that's the case then maybe mods can create a sub section for all accident related info so all you ex pats and your not so sunny disposition can post to your hearts content there.

What is the false impression, Samui is a nightmare to drive on especially on a scooter/motorbike, it is better to make people aware so they can make an informed judgement about driving rather than becoming the subject of a post on the forum.

  4. whooooo can't win an election have to find other ways to get into government again!

How pathetic the democrats have become!

Where is a new Thai political party ?? - electable - everybody is craving for it!!!!!!

Don't worry, Yingluck has not done anything wrong. She will be fine, as always.

Perhaps what you meant to say is that "She's done nothing at all?" wink.png

That would make her a Democrat or something similar

  5. As usual another crackdown which will last 3 days if that, we know there are lots of great Thai people out there but there is an equal amount of scum and anyone one out there that has been here for a while will know it full well. money MONEY money a lot of Thai,s and foriegners will do anything for it. Its one thing to have laws that will make Thailand look good on the international stage but its another thing enforcing or even attempting to enforce them. Will it change sadly no, many of the people profiting from this and many other forms of exploytation are feared and powerful people.

  6. I will ad that perhaps some of that money will line the pockets of corrupt politicians, as in every country, however, it still is a great option for any tourist. I would prefer to pay 500 baht upon arrival for full health cover rather than 100-500k should I have an accident on a motor cycle or have a heart attack. This is a positive solution to an ongoing problem and I think most educated people would agree on this

Most educated people agree this is nothing but a rip-off scam to reap more money.

Most educated people would have health insurance
    really? Prove it

You prove otherwise, I am guessing you are uninsured

  8. So if a Thai has an accident in another country should the first concern be there wealth or health. another crack pot idea from another short term politician. Most Hospitals in tourist areas are private Hospitals and are far from cheap.

Yes you should not travel anywhere without valid health insurance, but charging 100% of tourists (many of them having health insurance) for 1% or less that need medical attention is ridiculous.

Most of the money would disappear setting up am and collecting the fees.

Why not promote yourself as a nation that cares and takes care of its single biggest revenue earner Tourism.

You seem to think we owe you for letting us come here, are we such a burden?

  9. Yep Kabin fever, maybe i am the only Farang around although i have seen a couple of suspicious looking characters at Tesco's, seriously though locals must do something on weekends at least. I have spotted a bar restaurant called Palm Sweet which appears to have a live band anyone been there?

  10. Hi i have rented an appartment in Kabinburi for 3 months minimum 100% because my 3 year old son is here, daytimes are fine as i spend time with my son, but come 7pm boredom is setting in, now on day 11 and just looking for a farang friendly bar to have a few beers once or twice a week.

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
