  1. Hi all,

i have a job as a Maths teacher in an EP program in issan.

I have been approached from a few of my students who want extra classes in groups of 4-5 people.

I am wondering what is an appropriate fee that i could charge, and how would this be, i.e. per person/per hour, per group per hour etc.

As a point of reference, the school charges those students 35k per year for participation in the EP

any answers would be very helpful and greatly appreciated

    thanks

  2. The only reason a company would "force you" to actually leave the country and obtain a Class B visa (to replace a Class O visa) would be to secure exclusive leverage over your immigration status.  I would not work for such an employer.

But - in relation to an entry permit, any non-immigrant entry permit EXCEPT one issued as a retirement  status - whether it is based on a Class O or a Class B visa - can be extended under either of two criteria:

    1)  Support of a Thai spouse

    2)  Qualifying employment for a qualifying employer

There is no "conversion" from Class O to Class B (or the oppposite) - the extensions themselves have no classification.  The distinction is in the application process - which is slightly different for the two categories.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

sorry to barge in, but i currently am facing a very similar situation.

Lopburi has answered my posts, but since have had a development.

i have non-O based on marriage, and got a job as a teacher.

No 400k in the bank, and am getting less than 30 k a month.

My wife has a very stable job being a univeristy lecturer (civil servant) so i am not supporting her, we rather live together with our separate jobs.

Tomorrow is the day i'll be getting my first WP, and my school seems to insist that i must have a non-B, which they want to 'extend' (probably convert and extend but dont understand how) till the end of my contract, which is a three moth one, due to be renewed annualy from April 1st..

If i apply for a yearly extension of my non-O, and write on the reasons for applying:

Qualifying employment for a qualified employer

and present them with my three month contract, marriage certificate and the rest of it, am i covered in your opinion towards a yearly extension?

As you pointed out, i would hate to be 'dependant' of my school, especially since i dont plan to work for them forever.

Any information would be much appreciated

    be well

  3. Currently the only thing that counts toward the minimum 3 years for PR is extensions of stay.  Remember that this is a minimum and may take longer even when other factors are positive.

If you have a legal (registered) marriage you can extend you stay at an immigration office on the basis of supporting your wife.  You should not need the 400k in a bank account if you have employment here.

I would go to immigration early February with the wife and documents for a support extension of stay.  But your school may prefer to base your extension on work.  You can go either way so probably not worth getting them upset about it.  You are always free to change and can probably do so without losing your 3 year time these days.

With your current visa you have to leave the country at the end of February unless your stay is extended at an immigration office.  The work permit does not extend your visa by itself.

    Thanks lopburi,

if i got it right, i should be consulting with the school, to make sure they are OK if i go one way or the other, and if so, then prior to my 90 days elapsing i should go to ChiangKhan, wife, papers and all, and get a yearly extension, a procedure which i would hopefully be able to repeat three times (at least) before even considering applying for a PR .

But will i be able to get a yearly extension of stay if my visa will be running out in the meantime (feb to feb, while visa runs out in November05)?

Of course if the school insists on getting my extensions based on work, if i understood correctly, i should do a run in feb and then when i have yearly contract (Apr) i should go to the immigration and get yearlong extension of stay.

    is that so?

sorry to appear so thick but i probably am :o

    Thanks in advance

  4. Hello all,

i am Greek, 33 years old.

I am married to a Thai , and have a non-O issued in London, valid till the end

of November 05, while my first 90 days' entry ends by the end of February.

As i am here for good and i will like to get a Permanent Residency as soon as that will be possible, i would like some advice. I read the relevant articles and do not understand whether i must have three years worth of yearly visas, or three yearly extensions of my visas, so are we talking three years or four?

Next week i start a three month contract working in a school, where apparently from April onwards i will be getting yearly contracts.

What in your opinion would be the best and fastest way to obtain a PR?

By my counting , and if i understood things right (doubtful though...) from April 05 i can extend my permit of stay for a year (subject to work contract, hence work permit), and after doing this x3 till April 08 i will be able to apply for PR...

would it be better to apply for the yearly extensions (2 or 3?) while holding a teachers visa (and being maried as a supporting advantage) or would it be preferable to get them applying as a married guy, showing employment as supporting evidence? (uncertain what the financial requiremnts would be, i dont have 400k currently but i read in one of the pages that this might be flexible subject to the wife having a good steady job (which she has being lecturer in a Uni)

Also, now that i will start work, do i still have to go out of the country by the end of Feb, or once i have the work permit my stay can be extended accordingly?

Please help me understand and get it rightfrom the beginning so that i dont waste years at a later stage.......

Thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated

  5. Thanks,

i know i can apply for any of those , but i would not want to throw the Uni out of their ways, providing of course that i can change if the need arises

:D Divorce is not what i had in mind, rather a possible change to a more profitable carreer without compromising possibilities of gettin PR later on.

    thanks again

  6. hi all,

i am married to a Thai, and i will be employed in a university as an expert.

What, in your experience and knowledge, should be the non-Immi visa i should go for?

I believe i could go for the Expert, the Research, or the marriage, but do not know of any drawbacks that could possibly be there (potential problems with residency, extensions, convertion from one to the other if between jobs etc)

    thanks a lot

  7. hi there,

we got married in July in the UK

need valid passport, we were not asked for her visa etc, although they were in the passport so they could have seen them.

Spoken word to the registrar that she has not been married before, and a small interview 5-10 minutes for info regarding fathers and mothers name, job etc.

    hope it helps

  8. Thanks everyone,

i believe i am stuck with isaan as the wife has to 'pay-back' her scholarship.

i've been in this loei palace hotel, and they should not be too proud about the food arrangements....

but after 10 years in england i hope they wont be able to pick my accent...they have however asked me if i am muslim, as for the colour, i dare say lighter than thai, darker than the majority of farangs...so should be Ok

if push comes to shove i'll ask to be the Loei football coach, they cant turn THAT down :o

i have spoken with people there and they suggest that perhaps i should be hired as expert, but did not know that this could affect the salary so dramatically

    thanks again

  9. Hi all,

i have BSc, MSc and PhD in Food Science, all from english universities.

I am however greek, and as such i have been told that i would have serious problems working as an english teacher.

Although i would prefer to work on my field of expertise, i strongly doubt that i would find anything in Isaan, where i'll live with my wife.

Would the location make a difference on how flexible schools/universities

    might be?

Also, if in a uni, is the salary i should be expecting in the region of 18-20k/pcm?

any info would be greatly appreciated

    cheers

  10. Americans should get the f*** out of Iraq--and their little "yes men" the British.  They had no right to be there in the first place.  They used the 9/11 tragedy as a smokescreen, preying on the need for vengence of the citizens of their country.  They too are beheading and dismembering innocent men, women, and children with their missiles and bombs.  You call them [radical Muslims] cowards for beheading these men.  They did it with their own hands.  They have more courage in their little knife-weilding pinkies than all the pilots who drop death from above.  They are protecting their country from armies manipulated by trans-national corporations.  I would do the same for my country if I was being attacked by overwhelmingly powerful forces against which I had very little resources with which to retalliate.

But hey, I feel sad for his family.  I feel sad for them that he chose a line of work that put himself and them in this situation.  I feel sad that he wasn't home taking care of his own, instead of chasing a buck around a doomed sandpit.

If only people got so worked up over just one child killed by an American bomb.  Just think how much outrage there would be every time a child is blown to bits, or worse, survives a bombing with an eye missing or a limb or a hand or a foot or all of the above.  No wonder they hate us.  We can only see ourselves.  We can only comment on how horrible it is for us.  This isn't a spectator sport.  People are getting murdered everywhere--individually on the streets and in mass campaigns.  You make me sick.

could not agree more, at last a voice of reason!

  11. Hi,
