  1. If you have an accident, there will be checks.

Be prepared to stay at IDC until they deport you, possible blacklist.

Yes agreed anything is "possible" , but has it ever actually happened or been requested to show etc?

Especially in the more rural non expat concentrated areas, away from pattaya, phuket, bangkok , chiang mai etc.

I was in a car accident a few months ago and the police got involved. They asked for my passport and made copies of the front page and the visa page.

  2. Crikey! 0.01% on GBP1Million tied up for a year. Those have got to be the world's lowest interest rates.

They obviously dont need to attract customers, which probably means that most of them are depositing money that they cant put elsewhere.

This must be a different type of account. The one I linked to doesn't tie up your money for any length of time. In fact, it comes with a debit card so you can take out money if you need to.

  3. I did a search for this topic, but the threads I found mention the need for a minimum of $20,000 to open an account with them.

However, their website mentions this: http://www.hsbc.com.sg/1/2/personal/deposits/savings-account

Which says you only need $1000 to open the account (and a minimum of $2000 if you don't want to incur monthly fees).

I'm wondering if anybody has this type of account with them. I want a savings account outside of Thailand and this seems like a very good choice.

  4. It's not the license I care about. I thought that keeping my license meant there was some sort of major issue I wasn't aware of. I didn't realize it was just a routine thing.

The other driver has insurance because both his and my insurance guy showed up at the police station yesterday. They did all the talking. I didn't realize this yesterday, but it looks like the truck driver hit me and sent me into a spin, and then he went into the sidewalk and hit somebody who was standing there. That guy is in the hospital. He's not dying but I don't know how hurt he is.

My third-party insurance is pretty good, but I still don't want to be found responsible for something that wasn't my fault -- especially if there are injuries involved.

  5. Without knowing who was at fault it is difficult to say what the outcome might be.

That said, if your insurance and registration are in order and you have money to pay any fines, you should be okay.

That they kept your license is not significant.

Well, it was definitively his fault...

    It allways is....

Just kidding. You should be okay legaly.

Getting a checkup is not a bad idea.

:) Thanks. I'm really sore this morning but doesn't seem to be any major damage. I need to go talk to my insurance today to see what happens with my car.

And I just got a call from the police station that I can go pick up my driver's license today. I'm not sure why they kept it for less than 24 hours, but it doesn't matter. I'm just happy I'm getting it back.

Well, it was definitively his fault, but I'm not sure what they'll determine, since I don't speak Thai and I wasn't able to give my side of the story at the police station yesterday. He might have said something completely different and made it sound like it was my fault somehow. This is Thailand, after all.

My insurance is fine. Shouldn't they pay everything, even if it's determined it was my fault? What kind of fines could there be?

The license part had me more worried, I guess.

  7. I was involved in a pretty major car accident yesterday. I was crossing an intersection and a huge truck carrying sand hit me right on the driver's door. The truck was driving very fast and it sent my car into a huge spin and into a side road. I'm ok except for a case of whiplash and some cuts and (lots of) cruises. I can't say the same for my car.

The insurance people came over and took over the car issue (and dealt with the other driver). Everybody had to go to the police station (including the other driver, the insurance people, me). After some paperwork, the police kept both our driver licenses and told me they would conduct an inquiry that would take 1-2 weeks.

I'm a little freaked out by the fact they kept my driver's license and I'm wondering what happens next. Is this basically just paperwork and I should be getting my license back after they're done?

  8. Looks like a monitor type lizard. Give him a feed to slow him down, then grab by the tail and lift off the ground, keep at arms length and headfirst into a reasonably thick sack. Keep clear of claws and teeth as any bites or scratches will get infected. From memory Harry Butler demonstrates this technique on his old "In the wild" series which may be on Youtube.

    Cheers

One showed up in my garden last year and this is how the security guard caught him.

  9. You mean the government shelter? It's a dreadful, dreadful place. They have three large fenced areas, each of them housing over 100 dogs. Fights, injuries... The street is probably a better place.

    Thanks for the bump xsmile.png.pagespeed.ic.4tUibSscbZ.webp

Oh, I know those places. Great organizations, but they're really overwhelmed with dogs. It seems unfair to try to push another dog on them, when they're working so hard to help soi dogs already.

dam_n, he's beautiful. If he was small, I'd be over to Hua Hin like a shot. Hope he finds a loving home.

Thanks. I think he's a beautiful dog too. And he also has a great personality -- which is amazing, considering what he's been through.

  10. I'm trying to find a home for the dog pictured below.

The dog is some sort of setter, as you can see in the pictures. I found him a few weeks ago, after he’d been abandoned by somebody I knew. He had to be shaved to treat a skin problem, which is why you see him with short hair here. I’m also attaching pictures of him with long hair, so you can see what he’ll look like when the hair grows back.

He desperately, desperately needs a home. The person who owned him (who lived near my old house) simply decided a dog was too much work and she threw him on the streets, after regularly beating him for the most stupid reasons. It took me almost five months to get him back (first because I didn’t know she’d gotten rid of him and then because I couldn’t find him). He’s now taking some medication for a minor skin problem, but other than that, he’s completely healed and back to normal. He could use to gain some weight, though -- he was probably surviving on white rice that people threw at him.

He’s a boy, about 5 years old, and he’s been neutered. He’s the sweetest, most mellow, loving, funny dog. Gets along with everybody, loves kids, loves other animals… I’m furious that the previous owner just got rid of him. He’s now living in a cage at the vet because I can’t bring him to my house. I have three dogs already and two are special needs; otherwise, I would take him myself. He deserves a good home. I’ve paid for his medical treatment and I’m paying for him to stay at the vet until he can find a family. He really deserves a good life.

If you're interested, please send me a message.

  11. This little guy just turned four months old and he’s in desperate need of a home. The owners will “get rid of him” (and I don’t mean giving him away) if he doesn’t find a new home within the next couple of weeks. His dad is a terrier and his mom is a poodle, so this is a tiny dog. About 4kg (both mom and dad are around 5kg, so the puppy won’t get much bigger).

I know you can’t tell from the photo, but he’s actually soft and fluffy. Very active and lots of fun. He’s been vaccinated and dewormed.

I already have three dogs and can’t take in another one. If you or anybody you know is interested, please send me a message. I find the owners' behavior really shameful (especially since they're foreigners and they should know better), but right now I want to focus on saving the puppy's life. Please, if you have any suggestions or know of anybody who might be interested, send me a message.
