I have an English friend who does the same thing but I thought it was a culture thing. He also calls Thai areas such as Pattaya -pa ty ya and Khao Talo-cantaloupe. His wife is Thai and doesn't correct him and uses proper terms . He does watch TV and listen to others use the correct terms but enjoys his 'freedom (to kill) speech'. I shall call his birth place LONDOON and see what happens.

Good-luck with that

Watched cam from LK Metro and Soi Buakauw and saw vacant business/streets at 11p.m. A lot of people mulling around Nongprue next to the police station so gatherings not enforced?.

I use this machine water for cooking and sometimes for coffee. Never for drinking. I worked at the worlds largest desal plant and would never drink that water. Of course, you probably don't want to see the inside of a Thai water/ice plant. Oh, by the way, years ago you wouldn't dare eat the lettuce served with food. Haven't gotten sick for awhile Does anyone know what the hand written thai notes on the water machines say? See a lot of these notes

Great to see the Navy here. (singing 'In the Navy' by Village People). God bless the military. Yep, I've learned my lesson-I'm a new man

Let's get real.
Who are the tourists who are not turning up in Thailand because of this 'martial law' ?
Basically, Chinese and other Far East people in those Asian tour groups, back-packers and other non sex-tourists.
The men who turn up here, and actually drink in the bars and pay the bar fines, are NOT going to avoid Thailand !
As people were saying back in September 2011, and when SARS came about, nothing but a nuclear bomb will stop the customers of Nana Plaza going there again.
And yes, Thailand is pretty quite right now, not many tourists, but that, I reckon, is more due to the 'quite season'. It's normally this quite, anyway. And no, I'm not a Suthep-sympathiser !
Q u i e t ? Backpackers are there; can't get rid of them. Kinda like thai relatives

The big issue for this is that travel insurance will not cover people in countries under martial law. This will turn many off coming here while it is enacted. It also means those that have booked are covered to cancel their trips. The real effect on tourism may be much higher in a few months if still in place
I don't think this is right.
This type of insurrection may be a part of the war exclusion clause but you would still be fully covered unless your claim directly or indirectly arises from such insurrection. So if you are taken ill, have something stolen or need emergency repatriation you would be covered under normal circumstances. However if you get involved in a riot, whether intentionally or not, get run over by a tank or decide you need repatriation because of the political situation then the war exclusion would apply.
Exclusion wordings do vary so it is worth reading the small print.
Better check your reservation. The BKK folks have gotten wise about cancellations and have 'no cancellation' clauses.

Lumpini park will still be a party with beer, broads, bands and now....bullets. Rock on! Oh, and those pesky travel arrangements that you worry about.....remember the phrase 'force majeur' to get out of them successfully

I've been doing in/outs here for 25 years but am getting old. Like they say here: 'it's up you'

Does one 'tip' the soldiers like one 'tips' the copz?

How will this affect the great party time in BKK? Anyway, what do martians have to do with anything there?

Twenty years ago it was common to see thai houses catch rain water for household use and my wife even used it for drinking water. I never got sick from it. I don't see any evidence of anyone catching the free stuff any more. wise up.

Price gouging (robbery?) in Pattaya exists: N. Pattaya, Second Rd, McDs charges 70% more for food than the other area stores. Because of the popular lady man show?

I am fat and old so I need a/c. I pay about B200 per day and cool the dining area and bedroom at night. The kitchen is sweltering hot and other areas I simply block. My cheap Charlie neighbors use fans but when I visit sweat pours off me. They are also old and fat and I wonder when they will drop dead from the heat. You don't get a 're-do' when you're dead!

Maybe the Thais don't like paying 'Farang price'. The locals get reductions on travel facilities and sometimes museums, if you live there you can pay 10% less than visitors.
Anyway I lived there for 40 years and I personally heard about four thefts: two break ins, Gypsies. One break in at a customer's house, Serb. And my wallet got nicked as I left it in the car near an open window. Generally didn't lock the doors of my house or car... things are going down hill over the last ten years or so, no more passport controls at the frontier and you aren't allowed to be racist.
Just received an email 'Groupon' offer for the Illusions show in Pattaya. It clearly notes that you must be a Thai to receive the 50% off. Makes you want to tighten your belt and stop encouraging this society of people who thrive on farang money. Is it not enough that foreigners come here and take up payments on the women with children you abandon? I actually had a girl at a 7 11 ask for a TIP in her jar after a B30 purchase!

$10 for a cup of coffee? Slice of toast for hotel 'breakfast'? They have been robbing people for years

I still go to the beach but stay away from Soi 9 near the police station. Bad people there and then there is the people who are not cops
-

Maybe getting the sewage/garbage out of the water and garbage off the beach would be a start

To solve this problem try this: Mount the alpha male (leader) dog doggie style. The dogs will see that you're the boss and leave you alone. This technique is legal in Thailand , Australia and California. Yes you may offer the dog a cigarette afterwards. No need to do this
