  1. I fly directly from Switzerland via Bangkok to Krabi International Airport. Is it possible to get a visa on arrival there. I'm Swiss and want to stay 2 weeks in Krabi. Furtheron I fly into Laos for the next few weeks and want to reenter Thailand at Chong Mek by land. I will then again stay in Tahiland for about two weeks, before I will fly home. Can I also get a new visa on arrival at the border in Chong Mek? Or is it better to apply for a multi entry visa?

Yes you will get 30 days every time you enter the Kingdom.

Same same if you enter via Bangkok, Krabi or any other Thai airport or entry point.

The best is to get a double entry tourist visa before you travel to Thailand.

  2. Thai province to greet tourists with free pineapples

    Bangkok, July 26

They say that there is no such thing as a free lunch, but tourists visiting the Thai province of Prachuap Khiri Khan are to be treated to free fruits including the pineapples it is famous for.

Mayor of the province, Prasongsuk Jaiyai has notified all restaurants in the region to offer free local pineapple to tourists.

Noting that it would not greatly increase costs for the restaurants, Jaiyai said that the free pineapple would serve to boost tourism.

  4. Bring in 10 M THB into your Thai Company Ltd., and you have a one year visa and work permit within 3 hours, or at least the same day.

Thaiadventure, how much USD is your investment?

You don't need us here at this sunky forum, you should contact BOI for special priviliges indeed.

  5. To get a work permit on this venue you must incorporate with 2 million Baht, and employ some 4 Thais. Then it should not be a problem. But be prepared to pay at least 5 million baht in taxes the following 2 yeras in order to keep your work permit going.

You will need a local laywer for this operation, to set it up and apply for all permits, work permit, hotelpermit, alcohol permit, cigarette permit etc etc.

Good luck, but be VERY careful about what you are going into!

  6. Does anyone know can he get another visa???  Is it possible for him to make a new like in Thailand considering he has no work or anything?

Great that your brother is home again!

I remember your previous posting regarding his visa issue, and I think we answered it at that time. Yes, he could get another visa if he is not blacklisted for some reason...

Thailand is quite easy to stay visa vise. If he have money he could manage to stay for a very long time, with visa runs or extensions.

  7. Operator of the skytrain, Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS), has joined hands with Chao Phraya Express Boat (CPEB) to launch a ferry service that offers city residents and foreign visitors a convenient way to explore historical landmarks and tourist attractions in Bangkok.

The newly-launched service is good value for money because for a price of only 75 baht it gives you a day-long ticket that can be used to travel between the 13 piers the boat service connects for any number of time. There is no limit on the number of trips you can make in a day _ and you can get on and off the boat at will.

``Tourists enjoy travelling around Bangkok by boat. It's a pity we didn't come up with the idea earlier,'' Supapan Pichaironarongsongkram, president of CPEB pointed out to Horizons.

Four boats connect 13 piers the CPEB serves between Sathorn and Banglampoo. They leave and arrive punctually. They are manned by seasoned hands and well trained crew to ensure passenger safety. English-speaking guides are also available to assist foreign tourists.

For a price of 75 baht you get a day-long pass, a guidebook and a bottle of drinking water.

``The boat takes you to Rattanakosin Island, the Temple of Dawn, the Grand Palace, Temple of the Reclining Buddha. The One-Day River Pass enables tourists to travel on their own and save money because they don't have to charter the boat,'' Supapan explained.

The boat cruises at a gentle speed to allow tourists to enjoy the scenery. The 120-seat boat is equipped with toilet. The service runs from 9.00 a.m. until 3.00 p.m. The boats leave piers at 30-minute intervals. Conversely, express boat service is also available for those who are short on time.

``The most important thing is that our service is known for its punctuality,'' she added.

The BTS pitched in by linking the tourist boat service to its skytrain network at Saphan Taksin Station. Map and guidebooks are distributed to commuters and tourist passengers.

``We are also trying to promote the new service through television, print media, website, posters and banners,'' Sirilak Srisimaratna, BTS marketing manager said.

Each day some 5,000 foreign tourists use the skytrain to travel around Bangkok and beat the traffic jam on city streets.

This is just the beginning of a long and extensive partnership between the two parties, Sirilak said. Next on the card is a new travel route along the Chao Phraya accompanied by exclusive dining service which should appeal to locals as well as foreigners. ``There are many old communities along the river famous for their traditional delicacies. Thai people love to travel by boat and Banglampoo itself is noted for good food,'' Mrs Supapan said.

Foot massage service at Maharaj Pier for exhausted tourists and revision of the tour itinerary are also planned. A more modern boat service will be added to serve the Royal Barge Museum and it will be extended to the canal.

``This is not just a matter of transportation. The Chao Phraya River is an attraction in itself. The cool breeze coming off the river is very soothing to the senses,'' she concluded.

  8. Rail travellers to Malaysia to undergo thermal image scans

PEOPLE travelling to and from Malaysia by train will soon have their temperatures checked by thermal imaging scanners.

In an effort to prevent Sars from entering the country, the Malaysian Health Ministry has arranged for two infrared scanners to be installed at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station in Singapore.

A third will be set up at Padang Besar Station in Perlis, the entry point from Thailand.

Railway operator KTM Berhad expects the scanners to be in place within a week.

More than 7,000 people travel to and from Singapore by train each week. But KTM decided to suspended weekday train services between Singapore and Malaysia on May 5 because of a significant dropin passengers to Singapore.

KTM said that it plans to resume these services 'as soon as the government declares the Sars threat over'.

Meanwhile, Malaysia reported its first new probable Sars case in two weeks yesterday, a day after it declared that the worst of the outbreak was over for the country.

  9. Nation TV Channel leaves UBC - closing down tonight

Nation Channel will cease its programming on United Broadcasting Corporation on May 1, 2003. The channel will move to Thai TV, a direct-to-home pay service available in limited areas of Bangkok.

The continuing ban on advertising on UBC prevents local programme producers from generating sufficient revenues to maintain their services,'' said UBC chief executive officer Sompan Charumilinda.
