  1. First check how is the status of your computer if the CPU and RAM are always running at 100% it is normal to be hot this can happen due to a lot of reason. Best way to eliminate to stop this problem is to save your data and than format the hard disk. If you cant do this by yourself in panthip they will do it for about 250 Baht.Second check if the fan actually works sometimes dust and hairs accumulates stopping the fan from spinning, If so you can remove the cover and clear the dust and it will work fine again.

    Also sometimes dust and hairs block the entrance to the fan limiting airflow try to clean it carefully and if it still runs

    If all this doesn't help it is a design fault and the cooling pad are the best option

    You advise someone to format the hard drive if the CPU and RAM are running at 100%???

    If they follow this advise the computer will then not boot up. I guess you mean format and re-install operating system and all software. I would only do this as a last resort if i could not resolve the problem any other way.

  2. Handouts tothe poor just encourages idleness.

    Funding ofbusiness ideas encourages unfair competition and corruption.

    Educationfor the poor is overrated, whilst I agree they should have equal opportunity, Idon’t believe I will make much difference, We would just have farmers thatcan speak a foreign language or do algebra or something.

    It seems tome the solution is Tax the well off, or just to manage and regulate it better. Reducetax for low earners, to nil on the poorest in society. Improve the welfaresystem and education, but this needs to be carefully managed with no handouts, and in ways that givepeople incentive to work.

    It has beensaid that this rich\poor gap is a problem worldwide – look at America. Well America is notthe rest of the world, and not a good example. Some countries have got it right: look at Germany,France, Cuba….. Australia?

  3. If something could lower the temperature a couple of degrees that'd be perfect.

    Unless you happen to be a peasant in rural northern Thailand, where winter temperatures drop low enough to kill people who don't have the means to keep themselves warm.

    It may not be an issue for Western scuba divers, certainly.

    People die when the temperature drops to 18-20 degrees...?

    I might be wrong but I thought we were talking centigrade and not fahrenheit...?

    In Pattaya about 7 years ago, a Thai man died of hypothermia overnight - the temp was 22 degs C

    I saw homeless people sleeping outside when temperatures dropped to -15 Celcius last year in the UK. They did not die! they knew to use more layers of insulation.

    I suspect that if someone died because of hypothermia in Thailand it was probably alcohol related. Or they were very old.

  4. I stand by what I say, of course this is my point of view right? But looking at what Kuffki has just said it endorses my write up. The 2 dogooders who would like to see me hang high, try to read between the lines, think outside the box (if you can that is). I don't think you 2 have lived in thailand for long or know about the thai way, because if you did you wouldn't write stupid comments about clearly something you know nothing about.

    Kuffki has been ripped off for large amounts of money whilst being in thailand, he is just a small proportion of the many who in number far exceed any thai national loosing a couple of thousand euro's.. They are the lucky one's.. if you added up the money that farang get cheated, robbed, murdered, fleeced out of on a daily basis in thailand it would be more than some countries GDP..

    Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.. ah haa haaa ahhhh.... :bah:

    UKinBKK I do agree with your point that Farangsbeing ripped of in Thailandis a much bigger problem, and that the authorities in Thailandmistreat foreigners and encourage Thais to rip them off. Whereas in Europe the authorities try to help victims.However this does not mean that the person that committed thiscrime in Sweden should be applauded, he isno better than the Thai con men. Remember the victims are ordinary working classpeople.

  5. The sister and him fight all the time and he is allways pissed ,he has never had any money ,only what his mum sends him every month ,yer she likes him ,but the rest of the family hate him .her three sisters all want him gone .yer I dont want to dob him in ,but I think the best way to help him is to get him to go home sober up and get job ,I think he is only mid 20s ,if he stays there he will be a life time bum.

    He keeps saying he is going but he never does , she is going nowhere with this dude ,she get a heaps better bloke ,and no he is not Greg.

    Perhaps you should have a talk to your wife's sister before you dob him in. She may actually like this guy.

    IMO you'd be the turd if you dobbed him in. You could try helping him.

    If it bothers you, (which it does seem to) then it is your business, tell him straight, that YOU want him gone, tell him that you believe most of the family want him gone, tell him that you know of people, including yourself who are considering reporting him to immigration. Tell the wifes sister the same. See what reaction you get, then decide what to do

  6. I read on Siam Legal website that savings are not acceptable for a Marriage\Spouse Visa as the requirement is for a monthly income.

    Can anyone clarify this, as I have savings but would struggle to prove income of 40,000 baht per month.

    Quote "I don't have an income but I have savings in a foreign bank account. Can I use for a Thai Marriage Visa?

    Normally, savings account will not work as the requirement is a monthly income."

  7. Start looking at the hardware:

    Check fans are running and the heat sink is not blocked.

    If you have two memory chips remove one of them at a time and test.

    Then try removing cards one at a time, start with the graphics card if you have one, and you have an alternative.

    There is also a free utility called SpeedFan you can download it from FileHippo.com, it is really for testing HDD cache and temp but it also reports temperatures from any sensors that it finds and you can see any temp rises in a graph.

    If all this fails, then it could be a faulty chip on the motherboard, I once had a new IBM PC server that had the same symptoms, it took about 1 year and 12 visits from IBM engineers before they found the fault, they changed everything, the last part they changed was the motherboard, after they changed that it was fine.

  8. My Thai wife will soon visit me in the UK on a visitor Visa.

    If during the visit we decide that we want to remain in the UK, is it possible to change the Visa category from visitor to a settlement (wife) visa whilst in the UK. I have had and seen conflicting advise about this. Does anyone have any experience of this?

    The information on the UK Border Agency website suggests it is possible (see text copied below) *

    One thing that is not clear to me from the text :

    The minimum of more than six months does not apply to you if we gave you permission to enter as a fiance(e) or proposed civil partner, or as the husband, wife, civil partner or unmarried/same-sex partner of a Tier 1 Migrant, and you are still with the same husband, wife or partner.)

    Does 'permission to enter as a wife' mean the visitor visa issued to wife (ie: after we were married)?

    Thanking you in advance for any advise

    * This page explains how you can apply for permission to enter or remain in the UK as the husband, wife or civil partner of a person who is settled here or applying to settle here.

    If you are already in the UK

    If you entered the UK in a different immigration category (for example, as a student), you may be allowed to switch into the category of husband, wife or civil partner if we have given you a total of more than six months' permission to live here since your most recent admission to the UK. This permission must have been given in accordance with the Immigration Rules, not 'exceptionally' (outside the Immigration Rules). For example, if we gave you permission to enter for three months and then permission to remain for five months, you have been given a total of eight months - which means you can apply to switch into the category of husband, wife or civil partner.

    (The minimum of more than six months does not apply to you if we gave you permission to enter as a fiance(e) or proposed civil partner, or as the husband, wife, civil partner or unmarried/same-sex partner of a Tier 1 Migrant, and you are still with the same husband, wife or partner.)

    To switch into this category and be given permission to remain in the UK as a husband, wife or civil partner, you must also meet all of the following requirements:

    * you are married to or the civil partner of a person who is present and settled in the UK;

    * you and your husband, wife or civil partner will both be aged 21 or over on the date when we would give you permission to remain;

    * you have met your husband, wife or civil partner;

    * you have not remained in the UK in breach of the immigration laws;

    * your marriage or civil partnership did not take place after a decision was made to deport or remove you from the UK;

    * you and your husband, wife or civil partner intend to live together permanently as husband and wife or as civil partners, and the marriage or civil partnership is existing and genuine (not a 'marriage of convenience', for example);

    * there will be adequate accommodation for both of you and any dependants without the need for public funds, and at least part of that accommodation (for example, a bedroom) is for your and your partner's sole use; and

    * both of you will be able to maintain yourselves and any dependants adequately without needing public funds.

    To find out how to apply for permission to remain, see the Applying from inside the UK page.

    If your application is successful, we will give you permission to live and work here for two years. This is called your probationary period. At the end of the two years, you may be able to apply for permission to settle permanently in the UK (known as 'indefinite leave to remain') as the settled person's husband, wife or civil partner.

    Please note that, in most circumstances, you cannot marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK unless:

    * you been given entry clearance expressly for the purpose of letting you marry or register a civil partnership in the UK; or

    * you have a certificate of approval to marry or register a civil partnership in the UK.

    You can find out more about entry clearance and certificates of approval in the section on Marriage and civil partnership.
