  1. Yeah Big C also. Just bought one for 400 baht. It's not level because the plastic was not molded properly and the carafe is so poorly designed it spill every time I pour the coffee. Brand name is Otto. Other than that it works fine.

  2. What's the name of the product you're running low on?

I myself have been looking for Ecover here in Thailand. Or other bio-degradable detergent. So far the ones I've seen were perfumed.

Villa used to sell something like that but it was pretty expensive. I haven't seen it for a while though.

I use "Organic Multi-Purpose Cleaner" from Baan Suan Pak Store in Chiang Mai. It's unscented and works well on clothes. 1.5 liters is 89 baht. I use about a half cup when for a medium size load. 053-233-317 The owner speaks ok english. They will mail it from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.

  3. Hi,

I'm looking for an inexpensive condo (10,000 or less) very close to the BTS for three months starting from 1 July or so..... some flexibility there, sooner might be OK if its a nice place. Also long-term might be an option if it works out. Clean and quiet and an excellent air conditioner are my primary considerations.

I'm not interested in any place that charges more than the government rate for electricity and only want to pay a one month security deposit on a three month contract.

On Nut area is fine but Sukhumvit 77 is too long a walk; sois 50/52 is about the distance I'm looking for. I prefer to rent from directly from an owner.

I'm a working expat here since 2002 and currently living in Bangkok.

Please send me a message and I will get right back to you.

    Thanks,

    Rick

  4. I've never been able to find quality shoe laces in Thailand. I'm happy to hear that Central Chidlom now carries them, but remain skeptical based on years of searching.....

  5. I'm continuously amused by CMU Language Center's various courses. It's pretty obvious to me that its run as a for profit business using CMU as a marketing tool.

I would imagine so. But I would imagine they do have obvious assets. And being 'for profit' does do wonders for the business - like easing the cashflow and allowing you to invest back into the product.

I'm so stupid! Of course the profits are being reinvested in the CMU Language Center. Thanks for pointing that out!

Every university in Thailand that can sets up these kinds of internation programs/de[artments etc. becasue that's how the Thai's get power and money and the Farang get a piece of the pie too.......

  7. Thousands of people are whooping it up Songkran Issan style under the Gucci and Versace banners at Central World. As unimaginable an image here in the LOS a couple of months ago as an African American in the White House was a couple of years ago.

(Well, not full on, its still mostly political rants, but there is a lot of water and powder floating around also!)

I've been thinking the last couple of days about how a hundred or more soldiers stood with their backs to the fighting directly at the mouth of Khao San Road facing a few hundred tourists to make sure no tourists came too close. Just kids really, they really aren't much older than the backpackers and the soldiers stood bravely as guns and explosions filled the air behind them. I couldn't see it, but I'm guessing that behind them there was a row of soldiers facing the fighting and terrified by their position but ordered to make sure nobody entered Khao San Road. Pretty good work!

I've also been impressed that with no police and no soldiers around there has been no significant looting or rioting against property by the redshirts.

  8. I would bet at long odds that if a tourist had been foolish enough to venture into the area where there was fighting going on either one of the redshirts or one of the soldiers would have taken them by the hand and made sure they were safe.

My experience of walking around the area all evening was one of politeness and kindness from the redshirts towards the tourists and disinterest from the soldiers.

I was on a crowded unairconditioned city bus heading to Central Pinklao when news came that the soldiers were attempting to clear the area and that violence had erupted. There was genuine despair among the people on the bus, not anger, but sadness.

  10. "Cars and buildings in Khao San riddled with bullet holes."

Simply not true according to my experience on Khao San road itself. Maybe he thinks that the whole area is called Khao San?

The soldiers kept any fighting off the Khao San road and although almost everything was closed, there were still some places open and no fighting/shooting.

However, just behind the barrier of soldiers at the mouth of Khao San intense fighting was going on. I saw no injured tourists and no tourists in any danger in any of the actual tourist streets.

  11. I just returned home after visiting the Khao San area. What a scene! The Phan Fah end of Khao San is blocked by several hundred troops in riot gear keeping watch on the backpackers and the sound of tear gas canisters, rubber bullets and maybe gun shots is constant and only maybe 10 to a 100 meters away. There is also a constant sound of ambulances coming and going. Helicopters regularly circling the area.

Yet just a 5 minute walk down to Soi Rambutri backpacker life continues just as before....techno music and beer.

I walked down Rajadomnern from the Pinklao Bridge side and the redshirts were fairly relaxed but many were gathering and placing bamboo poles next to the curb.

  12. Yes it depends whether the 800 line is set up to accept international calls. Dial the Thailand ATT access code 1-800-0001-33 than the 800 number and it will go through if the 800 number accepts international calls. It's a free call.

  13. I just returned to a condo next to the Four Seasons on Rajadamri and I'm stunned at how loud it is and that is continues all night long. It's permanent hearing loss loud for the protestors and no sleep loud for me 500 meters away and 27 floors up.

  14. 1. Stop hocking and spitting in the public showers at my gym. I don't care if it is your culture and your country, its disgusting and unsanitary.

    2. Make a little room on the BTS and the buses when someone sits down next to you. Move your leg over into your space.

    3. That's pretty much all that bothered me today!
