  1. I don't know which older guys you know ,but I don't know any like that ,most live the same sort of life they do in the west , family life, shopping ,garden ,looking after the kids (if they have young ones) doing the school run etc, etc, just in a nice warm climate, with no speed camera's,traffic wardens ,and all the other drawbacks of the west, I think you read to much ,bullshit about what goes on here ,

And yes, I also do see many of "your" older guys types, 45-60 years old. Mostly divorced, with kids (most grown up).

They come to Thailand, nice younger girl, she is different, not same same.

Ohh Sorry farang I have baby inside, <deleted>, I forget tablet and you no condom.

At 45-50-55-60 YO farangs starting a new family again. Go and ask how many of them planned that.

Then go ask how many of the girlfriends planned that, not that you will get an honest answer.

Don't pretend that these guys are happy. I am sure some are, but they are the exception. Many take responsibility for their own <deleted> to make the girl pregnant (if it even is his) and are stuck, but not happy.

Damn, It is good to be a gay man, I am HAPPY cheesy.gif

The thing I found surprising was just how many of them really liked their kids. They might not be that keen on the missus, but they really like their kids.

OHH, definitely, I agree. Most are good people and what to do what is right, just impossible together with the Mum and as always the kid gets played as leverage. that is why they got pregnant in the first place, because they know farang men are better then their Thai men when it comes to kids (I am NOT generalizing). How many farangs take care of the ex-Thai husband/BF's kid or even ex- farangs kid.

  3. As has been said before if you are happy living like this ,great , to me it would be existing , and as we are only on this planet for a short time i soon realizec that i would never be remembered in history and they were never going to put up statues to me , so i ensured that at least while i was here i was going to make it as comfortable as i could with lots of nice things ,luckily i was able to do this , so while the money and my health lasts i am bloody well going to enjoy it , by the way our bedroom is bigger than the op,s studio .

Yeah it definitely feels like surviving with the little fun we get in our lives but its just a stage in our life and hopefully were come out of it much better soon. I envy the richer people on this forum that have posted about their luxury life compared to mine. I'll get their soon biggrin.png

You shouldn't envy them, they actually envy you. Your life is just starting and are already living an adventure AND creating a future.

The (old) "rich" geezers here are mostly miserable and jealous.

They have 3 thing to look forward to everyday.

    1. The 8.00/8.30 first ThaiVisa NewsLetter (or the afternoon one if he's a daily drunk)

    2. Breakfast out of a bottle or soon after.

    3. Which hooker/bar today? Let me check my supply of viagra first.

OP, go for it. It seems you got a good head on your shoulder, especially considering your youth/parents situation.

Actually, after 25 long (4-6weeks) holidays in 14 years and now living here 12+ years, I have seen all the bullshit, but have also seen good things and as a farang with more Thai friend than farang friends (1), I have seen enough. I grant the limited experience to ONLY Pattaya <deleted> but I live and spend 95% of my time in the good Thai parts.

I go out for a real farang drink maybe 2-3 times a month and meet farangs in farang area's (not tourist area's, but longterm farang area's), always the same people. Since I might be there only 3 times a month, but I always see them, it is fair to say they are daily there and most always pissed or going out to girly bars and get more pissed (and viagra).

  5. Well, kudos to the op for posting however he is forced to live like this due to no money.

The argument that everything is close by is ridiculous because this is poverty at it's finest and by his own admission he has no choice.

Seriously, you have to ask yourself the sense of these people moving to Thailand and living like a rat in a cage?

This is not living, this is barely surviving, even for students.

The worst thing is, it doesn't get any better when she finishes school.

    I call this desperation living.

Sooner or later the hardships of not having any money come crashing down and it all ends.

I wonder if the OP thinks his GF wants to live like this forever.

    Misery loves company

and how do you think young un-employed people and students live in the Western countries. The same way on a bare minimum.

How do you think many retired, all their lives working and paying government, but got screwed are living back home or in Thailand.

Not sure which country you are from, but if it is USA, you're republican (just too bad Bernie or Hillary will be 2016 president)

The above is clearly a post from a already solid financial mom/dad, had all financial opportunities given to him and has never been poor for 1 day in his life.

  6. Good on you OP, I respect farangs who come here and live a (financial) Thai style. It also shows your girlfriend is with you and not your wallet.

For the things you listed I would come around 15.000baht per month here in Pattaya (room70sqm,electric,water total about 6000baht), but I do eat and shop farang products regular.

On top of the 15.000 I add another 10.000baht for alcohol and smokes.

I don't really keep track of all I spend, but monthly between 25.000-30.000 (incl. 3 cats), I could half that if need.

Good luck with your Thai life/adventure and remember happiness is NOT in money and luxury.

  7. You were complaining about the noise, now complaining about high electric tariff, I think its best you just get the hell out of there, especially as you are around 2.5 times the standard electric rate.

And its taken you 6 months to realise this ? Or are you just trolling?

    Of course he is trolling.

Pay 4000baht for a 26sqm Thai style condo (on a year contract), for which any Thai would not pay more then 2000baht

    Now 10baht electric unit

At least he choose his handle name correct (villageidiotY2K)

  8. Make sure you get a letter from your school that you are canceling your ED-Visa (double check all info, dates, passport, name)

I change from ED to Tourist for 6 months to overcome time needed for getting 50yo for a retirement. But that was 1.5 years ago.

Maybe now the school letter is no longer needed, but I am sure ubonjoe will know that

  9. I feel for you. I have been in a similar situation about 2 years ago after living here 10 years.

Although my family was willing to take me in back home, I did not go back.

I had and still have a very good Thai friend. She took me in and I rebuilt all while I was staying with her.

Now I am 100% back on my own feet.

You say you have Thai friends, now is the time to find out if they really are friends.

I understand they can not help you financially, neither did mine, just a roof and food.

The only expense you might have is setting up internet in your friends place, which I had to do.

Keep you head down visa wise and save up for when you can pay the fine and a new visa.

    Good luck

  10. Try one of those crowd sourcing sites.

    http://www.gofundme.com/

    Thanks, but....

Your country is not supported at this time.

It looks like you're visiting us from Thailand, which is currently not in GoFundMe's list of supported countries. Please let us know if you'd like to see GoFundMe supported in your country. Learn More

Actually, with a VPN you can signup with GoFundMe and setup a campaign.

Only problem is that you MUST have a Stripe account to get access to any donations and Stripe needs a European bank and address.

  11. OP, you ask a very basic question, which means you have NOT done any real research, besides visiting another restaurant 4 times in the past 18 months.

Take your time, do more and more research (NOT on TVF, mostly negative, but realistic people).

Take 1-2 years more, save up more money with your friend.

    Visit other Asian countries.

Thailand is in turmoil, nobody knows where all will go.

It could get better or worse for farangs, the past 10 years it has only gotten worse every year.

Always ONLY spend what you can loose. Do NOT expect to break even or make a profit from day one. Have plenty of backup money you are also willing to loose.

You will need a "trusted" Thai to communicate with you staff. A Thai that listens to you, which will be the hardest part.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

  12. Can he just do the reporting online. Or am i getting confused about this reporting online.

He could use the online reporting but the application would probably not be approved because it will be his first report and the local immigration office will have no record of any previous reports.

I was told that, so I never bothered with the online report.

I will give it a try for the next 90 days report (end October, beginning November)

  13. My home address is in Pattaya, my home for many years. I will take my rental contract with me when going to immigration Jomtien, just in case.

I just asked about time frame originally due to 30-31 are Buddha days, but now here it seems my easy retirement visa is going to be a problem ???

Maybe I should just go back to tourist visa and visa runs or even ED-visa again, at least I understood that part.

  14. I got my very first NON-O-Retirment almost 3 months ago (May 07), so in total I was told 15 months due to first time.

I was told to report before August 03 to Immigration for the 3 monthly thing, which should be free.

Nobody every told me I should leave the country and do a visa run crap again. I am actually happy I am 50 now (happy being older) and can do the retirement visa, so I would not have to leave the country/visa-runs/ED-visa anymore and now you are saying I still have to go on a visa run?

  15. Hi all,

I got my first retirement almost 3 months ago and I need to go August 03 (passport stamp) for my very ever first 3 months report.

30-31 are Buddha holidays (assume Immigration is closed) and then weekend, so Monday August 03 is actually my first day I could go. Same day my report is due.

Is there any time frame (overstay, delay) to the 3 monthly report?

What would happen if I would go on August 04 or later?

Does retirement still have overstay fees or is it more lenient?

Pattaya, Jomtien Soi 5 Immigration Office

    Thanks, Ron

  16. To me the law or rule whatever it is, is absurd.

Its punishing the shops not the kids. All it means is kids will have to walk further to get booze.

Enough of these nonconstructive posts. Seems to pop up every 5 posts or so on every thread.

Yes people we know Thai school teens can walk, drive and drink further than 300m.

Now quite, the government does not know that. Don't ruin it for the teens whom will drink anyway, whatever happens, OR ELSE ....

It will become 3000m or even 30km
