  1. Evening

My wife's certificates for her tb test and her English test are in her family name, but she is going home to change her name to mine before we submit the settlement visa. I've just read that you can only enter uk on settlement visa with certificates matching passport? Any one know if this is true or know any different

    Cheers lads

  2. I would include details of your property and the rent you receive as this forms part of your income.

There is no minimum time between marrying and submitting a spouse visa application.

    thks mate

another quiery i have is my gf was recently divorced

do i include this in my sponsers letter and if so do we need to transale her divorce certificate?

    thank you

  3. Hi mate

Yes mate it's my mums house with my family name on the deeds as I used this when we got the 3 previous tourist visas.yes mate all my post comes to this address so I will do as you say.i do own my own property which I rent out do you think it's worth including this in my file,as I've owned the property for 4 yrs but never lived there.one last thing as I said before we plan to marry and submit the settlement visa hopefully in the same week do you think there would be any problem as we applying so soon after getting married

    Thks again

I would say so, your bank statements will verify that you are paying the bills.

If as you say your mother writes a letter saying she has moved out but still owns the house and has no objections to your spouse/partner living with you.

Best to think if your spouse/partner is successfully then change the bills to both your names.

Thks for the reply, the problem I got with that is my bank statements will only show the amount I pay to my mum not who I pay like gas, water etc as I just transfer her the money when u bills come in. U Thk could b a problem.also have one more query we plan to get married and submit the visa straight away will that count against us as they may think its too quick to apply for settlement?

    Thks

  5. You should have the bills in your name , because you are the user, in theory you can walk away from paying them , your Mother would have to pay them .

Cheers thongkorn,I only plan to stay here till July so that's why I not changed anything other, but if I gonna stay here longer then that's the route I will take

    Cheers

  7. When she changes her passport her old one will be canceled. However, the visa inside it will, assuming it hasn't expired, still be valid. So she should show both the old and the new one when checking in for the flight and at UK immigration. I would also recommend she has her marriage certificate and an English translation of it with her in case she needs to show why and how her name has changed.

Alternatively, she could wait until returning to Thailand after the visit before changing her passport.

A word of warning, though. Waiting times for UK visas in Bangkok at present are quite quick; even settlement. However, over the last few years demand for all types of UK visa in Bangkok has started to increase from around March; with a consequent increase in processing times. Applying later in the year could mean a wait of as much as three months for her visa!

    See UK Settlement Waiting 2011

Thanks for all the info mate much appreciated

  8. Does she already have a visit visa for April?

There is no reason why she cannot apply for settlement whist she still holds a valid visit visa; though she cannot apply in the UK, she must apply in Thailand.

If her settlement visa is approved before she travels for the holiday in April, then she simply uses that to enter the UK and not the visit visa.

However, if you intend to have the holiday before she settles in the UK then you should either wait to apply for settlement until after the holiday or apply before and ask for the start of the settlement visa to be post dated, which it can be for up to three months, until she has returned to Thailand from the visit; explaining why you are doing so in the application.

Note, though, that her passport will remain with the embassy during the processing of her settlement visa, so she will therefore be unable to visit the UK during this time.

Whether to use a visa agent or not is your choice; but I suggest that you read this first.

Thks for the advice and link mate

Yes we already have the visa for April,we are looking at applying after the holiday due to the fact you pointed out about the passport and don't wanna risk it. My only query now is after we get married my gf will change her passport to take my name? The visit visa stamp is in her old passport so will she be able to travel to the uk with her old passport or new passport stating she married now or both?

  9. Morning lads and a happy new year to all

Me and the gf are looking at getting married in Thailand in feb,and then apply for the settlement visa.at the moment my gf is with me in the uk on a holiday visa but will return to Thailand next week. She will then visit the uk in April for a family holiday, will there be any problems applying for the settlement while she is on a holiday visa or what would happen if the settlement got approved before our family holiday, will she be able to still travel on the holiday visa??

Also undecided about using a visa service,as previous we have done holiday visa ourselves any thoughts??

    Regards

    Annnick

  11. afternoon all

my thai gf and i are looking to marry in bkk this coming july,as it stands my gf is still married to her ex,who she hasnt seen in over 4 yrs

she has been in contact with him abt going to the amphur and signing the paperwork but he is not playing ball,we thk he is living up north of thailand and also thk his visa has expired so that is one reason why he wont commit, would his visa have to be valid to get divorce?

we dont really wanna go through the hassle of the courts,as it should be straightforward enough but for him playing hardball

does anyone know off any other ways around this??

thks for taking time to read

    a frustrated annnick

  12. She can extend her current visit visa; provided she was in the UK, had not used the full 6 months and the visa had at least 4 weeks left before it expired. See Can I extend my stay as a general visitor?

As she is in Thailand now and the cost of an extension is (currently) £500 by post or £800 in person it would be cheaper to apply for a new visit visa!

She can apply for a new visa before her current one expires, but should explain in the application why she is doing so.

Visit visas can be valid for up to 10 years, although the maximum one can spend in the UK at any one time as a visitor is usually 6 months. See VAT1.4 Visa validity - What period for a multiple entry visit visa?

You ask " is there any other visa that would suit us better?" The answer depends on what you want to achieve. If you simply want your girlfriend to make regular, short term visits (up to 6 months at a time) then a long term visit visa is appropriate. However, if you want her to live in the UK with you then a settlement visa is what she requires.

cheers mate im getting confused at a few questions you might b able help with

if we are successful in getting another tourist visa,i would like to pre-date it till april would you see any problem in this as it would be so close to the expiriy of the old visa?,also

if we do get the visa would the old visa still be in use or would that one get cancelled

  13. I'm wondering if anyone can help me,my gf and I wish to marry in Thailand in April

Problem is my gf us still married to her previous partner, who she hasn't seen now for over 3 yrs

Does anyone have any knowledge of thai law and how easy it will be to get divorced without her partner as we don't even know if he still living in Thailand, also I was told that you couldn't re-marry till 10 months after you was divorced can anyone verify

    Thanks very much

  14. if she is coming over for Thai New year that will pressumably be before 12th April cant you just apply for the 3 month extension to the tourist visa. personally i have gone through all the way to ILR and always e mailed Foriegn Office myself, they gace accurate information and you have it in writing, my wife came on one way ticket to UK with tourist visa, was refused boarding at BKK, i showed e mail saying she could travel and they let her on. best route is always i found UK borderer agency i think is there name now.

    hi nalak

problem is she more than likely wouldnt fly until after the 12th,i didnt know you could get a extension?

  15. morning all

ive just had my gf over to the uk for a holiday, she only stayed 12 days due to her work commitments, she was on a 6 month tourist visa

which runs out april 12th 2011

what im hoping someone can help me with is we want her to come stay with me again but it wouldnt be till the thai new year so by then the visa would have expired, could we apply for another

tourist visa now? even though her old one is still valid, i know they say you can stay 6 months then have to return for 6 months but she was only here 12 days so would that count?

also was thinking abt maybe trying apply for a longer visa maybe 2 yr visa as my gf only can visit when she has work holiday,is this as straightforward as a normal tourist visa?

or is there any other visa that would suit us better?

this was our first tourist visa.

    thanks and regards

    annnick
