  3. Apparently the writer of the article or ThaiVisa were not amused by my comment posted earlier today, because it was not published. For the record. pointing out the backtracking in this article compared to previously posted news by Thaivisa itself I jokingly sugggeted that the writer had been called in for attiktude adjustment.

May be my comment was not published by a technical mistake. Only Big Brother would know.

My critical remarks on backtracking originated from mr. Carters harsh words on the foreign media followed by an attempt to compensate for the damage done by the video to the image of Thailand. That is how I read his presentation of shining examples of brave, honest and admirable Thai people. Indeed they are, and there are many of them. No news at all. Everybody living here or with heart for Thailand knows that. In the context of his article it all sounds like a sorry to interested Thai parties not amused by fthis video getting world attention. Most probably they told Thaivisa : If you not had been instrumental in making the video go viral nothing of this would have happened'.

Therefore, I would like to remind you of your own reporting after presenting the video as a Thaivisa scoop. Italics made by me.

    Thaivisa april 27/28/

"The newspapers were alerted to the attack after Thaivisa shared the video footage that had emerged from police sources seeking others responsible in the melee who are still on the run.

The Mirror, The Telegraph, The Sun, The Star, The Daily Mail, Yahoo News and news.com.au out of Australia all aired similar stories as a worldwide audience on Facebook reeled in horror at the assaults.

Mainstream Thai news services and television had not reported the incident until mid morning Thursday, some 12 hours after Thaivisa first posted the story and several hours after the story had gained international attention.

This resulted in some netizens alleging there was a cover-up to protect tourism at the traditional Thai New Year celebrations though the local police turned out in force with chief Chayakorn Sriladecho for pictures with the two men arrested four days after the attack."

I belief in professional and independent newsreporting. I hope ThaiVisa shares that too.

  4. Drivers of the Mini Van Taxi's say they only have insurance for 4 people Hmmmmmmmmm Is it me, or does that sound a silly thing to admit.

No, you're not the only one. This must be a bomb on the whole minivan-business in this country, the safest one can imagine. If this insurance claim is true, the whole sector can be declared illegal by law.

I fail to understand the logic behind this requesting for a re-entry only when you know your travel date. I think Immigration could streamline the procedure a little bit by making it possible to apply in one go for a (multiple) re-entry and (extension of) a one year non-immigrant/retirement visa if an applicant wishes to do so. Of course with the required payment for the re-entry.
More logical as well seems to me to combine necessary visits to immigration with the so called 90 day checks.stamps. For instance, if your one year visa extension has to be renewed after 75 days of a 90 days period, you have to report to immigration again 15 days after your last visit there for the new visa. Nice people working there, so I would love to decrease their workload (and waiting times for customers) by avoiding meaningless encounters.
A re-entry permit can be obtained at any time single or multiple.
There is no need to "know" travel dates.
It is a simple process which most undertake at the time of extension renewal

There are no one year visa extensions or new visas issued at Immigration and as far as your example of the renewal of a one year extension of stay (not visa) and 90 day reports are concerned, if you do the previous 90 day reports each a bit earlier than the date stamp shown, you can get the renewal of the extension of stay and the 90 day report close enough to do at the same time. A little planning on your part will ensure that the people at Immigrations see you less often, but it won't actually reduce their work load any.

Apparently I didn't make myself perfectly clear. The procedure for obtaining a single or multiple re-entry could be simplified by adding an option for these on the TM7 form for extension of stay. In that case your new one year extension and your re-entry permit could be stamped in your passport at the same time. This is to my knowledge and experience impossible with the current procedure. There is a special form for the re-entry permit (TM 8) which can't be handed in and processed at the same day as the TM 7-form.

On several occasions when applying for a re-entrypermit I have been sent back with the argument that it was very busy, please return when your travel date is nearer.

Concerning the 90 day stamp: of course, always willing to do my part. But it would be more logical if every 90 day period starts with the stamped date of obtaining the new extension of stay at Immigration. That would be in line as well with the proedure when (re-)entering the Kingdom. With the date-stamp of the immigration official at the border/airport starts your new 90 days period.

To avoid any misunderstanding: These are just suggestions, I am not complaining about the procedures or immigration. And by the way, whatever the hurdles, they are in Thailand considerably lower than in for instance the EU-countries.

  7. I learned a lot from this VIT (Very Intelligent Topic). Please allow me to thank each contributor for enlightening me. Here's the proof of that:

Not too long agp in The Netherlands organizers of an public event installed mobile toilets with paintings of Buddha on the doors. Nobody thought much of it till some Thai people in that country felt their religious feelings violated. They started a Facebook campaign against this blasfemous toilets, and soon it was followed by an outcry of outraged fellow believers in Thailand itself. The toilets were quickly remover after intervention of the Foreign Office. Now I know that all of this fuzz could have been easily prevented from happening. The paintings on the toilets should have been placed upside down.

  8. After the official pres oonference the government official told a very special envoy of ThaiVisa (off the record) that a try out period as of today, 1st april 2013 already has been implemented.

,,Drivers of lorries and other heavy vehicles have been instructed to drive on the right side of the road. All other traffic remains on the wrong side of the road", he said. Other government sources explained to ThaiVisa that this surprise experiment serves the smooth introduction of the very new right hand drive system on the 1st of april 2014.

,,On this historic date there will be a few accidents, but not mak mak since the experiment got the majority of smaller cars and vehicles out of action", one of them said with a sadistic smile on his face.

  9. Phuket and surrounding areas are contineously in the headlines for the wrong reasons: murders, burglaries, rapes, jet ski scams, tuktuk and taxi maffia, etc

It strikes me that the authorities are only grabbing headlines by enforcing existing laws related to the presence of foreigners, like the one in this topic or the drive against foreign (Russian) travel agencies.

However, local officials and politicians should realise that their actions lack any credibility as long as they are not even able to establish a busconnection from Phuket Airport to the main tourist spots.

Are you yourself not not reading and commenting same topic ...........?!!

Yes I did. And, that brings me next to you at the beer table? The question was why the majority of those commenting on this topic feel obliged to express their wisdom on the Thai legal system. In line with your 'answer' I would like to reply why stay in Thailand or come to Thailand if this counry is as corrupt as you and your pals suggest?

Thailand is a nicer place to live than most countries and that is one of the reasons why most ex pats are here. We appreciate that but it doesn't necessarily mean we have to subscribe to it being as perfect as some would have you believe.

I totally agree with you. And living here I know very well that my host country isn't perfect. Which country is? What I can't stand is using something happening here for Thai-bashing or poking 'fun' on Thai. Anything will do for that, even news about an arrested Italian maffia boss here. Many comments on this forum are expressions of white superiority thinking. I read Thai visa because it is a good source of interesting news about Thailand, and mostly I ignore the comments. My mistake I didn't do that today. I hope Thai readers of this forum don't make the same mistake! I suspect a lot of these 'Thai experts' would go bonkers when in their home countries people of foreign descent publish the same kind of rubbish. I bet their reaction would be: hey you, foreign loonie, get the hell outtahere.

  11. An Italian mobster, wanted by a foreign country, is arrested when arriving here. That's it. Where the hell does Thaivisa find the people commenting on threads like this? I guess at expat bars where they exchange there experiences with the Thail legal system. Just pass on the Chang mate and we tell you how it works here. Mix this neocolonial bunch with some 'Thailand lovers' abroad and you get the kind of slanderous comments this forum is famous for. I really wonder what these people are doing here or why they came to Thailand. Most probably haunted by the flawless jnudicial system and impeccable police force in their very civilized home countries.

Ego trippers are also entitled to their opinions here, this is why.

You're most probably right. Thank you for enlightening me. Have a nice day!

Without doubt you will understand that I don't understand your fantastich intelligent observation.

  14. I'll be more inclined to take Piyanart Srivalo's articles seriously when he quotes real people and not "a key Pheu Thai member", "a Party Source", "the source said"...............

The OP, One article containing three quotes to back up the authors slant, all non attributable.

For the sake of balance, have a look at this article entitled "Who can lead the Thai Democrats?" http://www.nationmul...y-30160746.html

One article containing three quotes, this time four unattributable sources "one Southern Democrat MP", "Another key figure in the party", "a source close to Abhisit", "A party source"

Another classic entitled"Leadership a vexing issue for Pheu Thai" http://www.nationmul...i-30146278.html

(where the author optomistically points out that "The Democrats appear to be in a far better position and better prepared than Pheu Thai as Thai politics now enters election mode." whereas

"the opposition party seems to be in despair")

One article containing four quotes, four unattributable sources, "one key party leader of Pheu Thai", "the party key man said", "the source said", "the source said"

Not one "real" named source in any of the articles. Now I understand that politicians and others make comments "off the record" but basing entire articles on unnamed sources is just irresponsible journalism in my opinion.

Is it really a coincidence that all of these articles are "Opinion" pieces?

Not at all. Opinion it is. The presentation of anonymous sources and style of writing just serves the image of 'objectivity' and tries to demonstrate how well informed the writer is. Thanks for your research.

  15. I had to double check for the little red satire letters , but did not see them. As someone noted, whatever minor rights you may have that are written on a piece of paper in a government office somewhere , the reality is you have none. The mindset here is pretty clear. If you are driving down the road and a Thai runs into you, the policeman at the scene will tell you it is your fault, because if you had not come here the accident would not have happened. Against this backdrop, they want to talk about foreigner rights ?? Too funny.. Hey, maybe they should have all the Thai police attend this seminar............

The policeman story pops up every time a foreigner wants to express here his/hers enthousiasm for living in Thailand. Interesting.

  16. Is The Nation looking for proof readers? I would be happy to submit my CV.

After reading that, I have no idea what actually happened....

No, the Nation has been laying them off - they have a third as many copy-eds as they had ten years ago. I don't think they realise how truly appalling the English is. I know several people who have worked there over the years and the assumption on the part of many of the local writers (who believe that because they speak English, they can write it), was that the editors just tidied things up a bit. They'd read the copy afterwards and to them it would say the same thing without the 200 mistakes, so they didn't realise how much had been fixed. So when the big cuts came 18 months ago, it made sense to get rid of the overpaid and barely necessary foreign editors. They still have some good editors there, but they just don't have the time.

It has nothing to do with language skills, but with a lack of professional journalism. It makes you wonder why Thai Visa has teamed up with the Nation or why Thai Visa decided to publish the name of a suspect in such a questionable story. I would advise the responsible person at Thai Visa to either first call The Nation and ask them to do their homwork again or call the police yourself and try to get the information needed to write a clear and factual report. Otherwise, don't publish

  17. 9) I also have a work permit valid until May 2011. To use work permit as base for extension I was told I had to leave the country and apply for it elsewhere.

Well, I cannot just pack and go as 1) I work and 2) I look after my son every day

    Do you work at home?

If not, do you take your son to work with you while you work?

If you don't work at home and you don't take your son to work with you, then who takes care of your son while you go to work?

Also, your job/work can't be without you at all? If that is the case, how were you able to go to court and not be at work?

You painted yourself into a corner when YOU limit your options.

I work 6 days a week as a manager in a spa. My son goes 6 days a school to nursery, I bring him there and pick him up. I don't understand the question, but anyway.

TrippleJoke has so much understanding for your position that he wants to cheer you up. Don't try to understand nice people like that. Wish you luck in securing custody of your son. Regards
