  1. My husband recenlty took & passed this test but he studied online daily for a couple of weeks & has been reading the book on & off since last year so felt confident enough but when he got to the test centre the tests were totally different format to what he had been studying so he found it confusing to say the least.

    An example from the book & website he was using;

    Who is the patron saint of England

    a)St George

    b)St Andrew

    c)St David

    d)St Patrick

    Actual test quesiton;

    St George is the patron Saint of England

    True

    False

    To a native speaker this isn't so bad but to someone who isn't it can be disarming to have a toally different test format.

    He said every single question was either a true or false or only 50/50 choice rathtr than the multiple choice that is on most questiond in the book & that the quesitosn were phrased in a totally different way!!!

    Not really fair imo, luckily he is a fluent reader & writer so managed to get his head around it but for someone not so proficient I can see there could be confusion.

  2. I really beleive that unless you are going to learning fluent thai then you wont even notice it but it may come in other overt forms, like taxis refusing to pick you up, comments about how black your skin, (this being a national past time btw & not really a race issue imo) or hearing the word "negro" in a stream of thai which will make you aware they are talking about you but you & she will come up against the occasional prat but then you more than likely already have in your own countris too so nothing to totally be bothered about & you really wont have to put up with physical/violent racial reaction in the LOS that may/has happened to you in the west.

  3. The victim’s mother confirmed that the child had gone missing since the 5th May.

    I hope to god this is just yet more bad reporting by the PCN & not a case of a child this young being missing for 2 days without anyone reporting it.!!!

    Rest in Peace little one.

  4. no one has said anythign about your child or called her names, I think you are being far too sensitive but you have claimed that kids cannot swim before 5 years old & many posters have said that this isn't true. It is a difference of opinion & experience only, in your experience your child cannot swim but you are not a world expert on this & if other parents say their kids can swim before this age then it isn't up to you to say they are wrong.

  5. showed that whether kids 'started lessons at 2, 3 or 4 years of age,' they learned to swim well at 'approximately the same mean age of 5 1/2 years.well

    I've highlighted the main word here, all that quote says is that they can swim but get better at a certain age. So still exactly what me & others have been saying then, small kids can swim :o.

  6. I was swimming in local comps at 5 & was in the water at -6months. Dunno what they teach at pools in thailand but in the Uk there are swimming classes for toddlers. What exactly are you defining as swimming? cause like sylvafern, doggy paddle & backstroke (both I was able to do at 3) are still swimming. Not too strong but swimming none the less & never with water wings.

    I have a photo of me swimming out with my dad in cornwall, him on his surf board when I was 5 & it was strong current but dad was there, so all ok. I think kids should go at their own pace but it isn't really acceptable to call someones opinion & experiences as nonesense as there are many of us who disprove your facts.

  7. thats what i mean, they wouldn't be posting here as they have no interest in thailand. I was in my local British Home stores the other day trying on a skirt & overhead two older women talking about one of their daughters who's recenetly divorced husband had just up'd sticks with the 40k profit from the sale of the family home leaving an ex wife & 2 kids so he could make a new life in Thailand, no way of getting child support or his asking for access to his kids, just up & left. If that happened to me I doubt I would be on the net looking for info on thailand either :o

  8. I doubt the op will get many takers here, the women posting on thaivisa are mainly either married to thai men or single professional working women who didn't come here with a farang partner & cerainly not as his dependant. In fact in the years I have been on thaivisa I have not seen one instance of a farang women posting about being dumped by her farang fella for a thai women (well, we had one but it turned out to be a man trolling as a women) . I'd imagine there are weboards directed more to the expat wives that these women would post at?

  9. I had this covo with hubby (thai) not too long ago, & he was of the opinion that on your property you can do what you like if the person is messing with you or yours & that the police tend to not pursue cases too much if a burgler gets messed up by an irate home owner. All within reason though, so just shooting someone who was outside wouldn't be allowed & you would get taken in & prosecuted but if they are in the house & with some kind of weapon you could pretty much do anything!!! Pretty same as in UK too. old mate of mine in the met told me that if I attacked a burgler I cought in my house then just make sure a kitchen knife was placed on them once they were down to avoid prosecution & prove it was self defense & also helped if you put a tv or dvd player next to them too!!! :o

  10. The mil has managed to get (blag?) for free 3k eucalyptus seedlings to plant & has managed to cover nearly 15rai with this amount but we need to purchase another 3k - 4k trees to cover the rest, so how much is a tree going for these days as I beleive it is even beyond her master skills to get more plants for free (although the jury is still out on that as the woman could get an arab to buy sand :o )
