We westerners prefer our religions to ‘guilt’ people into silence and shame on the rather shaky faith that if it isn’t spoken of, then it does not exist. What happened in this cult is the same use of The ‘Color of Authority’ that has debauched Christianity and every other institution of the West.

There is the small, electric air taxi. They are in operation in a few areas. Seems to me to be worth some experimenting with them.

I wonder what the real problem for the chief is. This is the cheesiest manufactured ‘deflection’ in at least a week!

I have worked in 4 & 5 star resort Hotels in the USA and have seen the behavior of people of all social status’s from various nationalities. I can assure the Chief that given the right ingredients, any group can succumb to orgiastic abandon.
The main ingredient is drugs....foremost among them is alcohol.

I hope that everyone here can come to understanding and apply just the minimum Justice.

Creating new restrictions in an area of human conduct that MUST and is largely acceptably governed by traditional modes of compliance is pure hubris.
There are so many necessary areas for compliance of behavior that demand honest, practical enforcement and are for reasons unknown, left to be real open sores on the public welfare and wellbeing. How about enforcement of laws pertaining to driving regulations...fairly applied. How about the inspection of the facilities used by tourists and the revocation of permits to operate for those who do not provide safe venues?

That is skankism of the worst kind!

I don’t understand the Thailand bashing. I’m an American. People are gunned down, stabbed, assaulted, and worse every minute of the day there. Simultaneously, the people support mass homicide carried out by their government across the entire globe continuously. Does that make for a superior society?

There does seem to be a fog of fatalism that shrouds much of Thai response to conditions that could be made less damaging. This fatalism seems at odds with the more Western notions of beneficial intervention. Anyway, that’s how I interpreted this Thai acceptance of the ‘way things are’. But I am no longer convinced of that. Part of that change was the national response to the boys trapped in the cave. When confronted with the reality of their grim prospects, the nation responded in a rejection of Fate and united in an effort that would not countenance failure. This effort was Heroic and universally seen as such.
The Highway Carnage is a failure of individual responsibility. Most accidents are the result of a general lack of conscientiousness and reinforced by authoritive dismissivness toward high profile offenders. That is a cultural fatalism that has resisted intrusion into the common conscience.

Just accept the messages of support for the kids and the heroic rescuers. There is no need to impune the motives or sincerity of anyone in this drama. For whatever reason, this event seized a powerful emotional space within the day to day realities of literally millions of people and it was pure and unmitigated. Celebrate the rarity and beauty of this moment.

It is not credible to think Thaksin would be unaware of the use of torture sites
in Thailand. He was in the past on the Board of Directors Consultant group of the Carlyle Group, a very major player in global arms sales and had at least a cordial
relationship with Tony Blair, G. H. W. Bush and others of the War Monger set. Thaksin would only be included into this powerful group if he were known to be a dependable water carrier for the aspirations of global oligarchs.

Life is suffering. We may insulate ourselves for much of our existence but ultimately we shall all meet that which defeats and destroys us. I hope this man had his happiness and joy in life.

What is with these people? Is their life so deprived of meaning or imagination that they will transgress on children...it is disgusting.

Actually, Billy followed the money and lived in heaven on earth. I grew up in Minneapolis. Billy opened his first bank....er, I mean Ministry there as that is the city where he attended bible college. As he became more successful his administrative needs grew. Soon enough there was his own mail room. I had friends who worked there, mostly on the night shifts doing God’s work. Opening envelopes and separating the cash from the checks, money orders, and sometimes even stamps. Each envelope was an enticing possibility. Sometimes a nickel taped to a note card inside, sometimes cash, a $5, $10...or whatever and sometimes a bank check for thousands. The letter were most times accompanied by a request for prayers. Loved one’s dying or infirm, the desperate need for divine intervention for this, that or the other. All these supplications were then collected and sent to another department. However significant donations got personal attention immediately. A little bell would signal a supervisor to come to the station of that particular shearer and the remittance and the request would be collected and sent ‘upstairs’ for more immediate review. The place ran like God’s own Swiss watch.

There is little left of the constitution to shred. GWBush stated the the document was ‘just a piece of paper’ which is pretty much how Americans see it. It exists as little more than a cultural artifact, like old insect collections in the Museum of Natural History.

Seems to me if she had asked to use the restaurant as more convenient transit route it is most likely it would had been no problem. I would wager she was going to deploy some verbal or facial expression of Entitlement which would not go over well coming from any foreigner. Surely not in America where I come from.

This behavior is disrespectful for whatever reason. Not because it is a cultural or religious symbol or for any other reason. It is disrespectful towards the Thai people who cherish their culture as do most people in most cultures. It’s a cheap insult that demeans the perpetrators in a real and meaningful way. Never allow them to return.

My view is that your safety is MOSTLY the product of your own personal choices and behavior. I have lived in this city for ten years in the Victory Monument area and though I have taken long nighttime walks between 9pm and 1am I have never even encountered an instance of a threat to my safety.
I am now in my 70’s and really rather defenseless so I have chosen to do my walking earlier.

This is a generally tolerant culture. The single most impermissible behavior regarding sexual expression is that it is conducted in private or within the confines of non-public area's. There are many cultures in which this could result in punishment up to and including death.

10 years ago, during my discharge interview by a Thai doctor at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, he recommended that I NEVER go swimming in the sea anywhere near Pattaya. He was convinced that the water was polluted by so many pathogens that it represented a serious health hazard.

I wonder how these evaluations are made....what are the benchmarks. My worst experiences have been in LA. Also the service is dependent on the clas you are traveling. I've had experiences on economy, premium economy, business, and First Class. That ticket class is the major determinate factor.
Just get near a check-in and if you are holding a First Class ticket that can be seen you will be approached by an airline employee and be given priority in every manner until you leave the destination airport. It doesn't matter how incompetently the airport functions.

Jeez.....call me culturally sensitive (or just whacko) but I find the re-enactments to be enlightening and in some respects entertaining.
