Hmm, so that means commentary in Thai only. A plus, in many ways, since it will mean not having to listen to partisan English commentary.
Have to set my alarm clock.

Sam Winter is famous around the ladyboy bars in nana plaza. Not for his "research" but for falling in love with ladyboy prostitutes and paying for their operations. I have yet to see an unbiased article from him. Its a shame that a family man and "researcher" abuses his power and position over the girls. IMO its just another try from Sam to get in the limelight. If really 50% are infected, then ask Sam why he continues to have sex with them. It doesnt make sense.
This post by WebBKK123 ought to get the attention of moderators. A forum participant, protected by anonymity, makes very pointed accusations against an academic with a well-established and published track record in the field of transgender issues - http://web.hku.hk/~sjwinter/general/
I have no idea if the accusations above have the slightest merit, but whether or not they do, surely this is not the place to allow them exposure.

The crowd was small but very appreciative of a wonderful musician at the top of his game. Watch out for his name - I understand there is a chance he might be back in Thailand before long, and if he is, Bear Bar will do its best to get him back. I look forward to it.

Two posts, nothing of value added. Thanks for the kind efforts, DK

You could start at Meechok Plaza, also known as Rimping (the name of the major supermarket there). It's a shopping/dining/services area about one kilometre north from where the 1001 Highway leaves the Number 11 Superhighway.
Big supermarket with lots of specialty items (not cheap though); decent restaurants (very good Korean, two Vietnamese, at least one Japanese, one English fish & chip shop, many Thai varieties); a friendly pharmacy where the lady speaks excellent English, a vet, an insurance broker, a clinic.....and lots more all in one compound. On Monday and Tuesday nights a large chunk of its parking turns into a night market.

He is a performer of international repute on a tour of Thailand, not some overstayer farang working for beer money.

David Lamotte, a singer-songwriter and astonishing guitarist who has released nine or ten albums, is playing at Bear Bar tonight. Anyone who enjoys top acoustic guitar work (both instrumental and accompanying a great voice) should make the effort to get down there. It's not often anyone of this calibre is in town!
I can't get the embedded URL link to work, but here is a clip of him on YouTube. There are many more if you search for him.
In case anyone is wondering, I have ZERO financial interest in Bear Bar or in tonight's event.
Bear Bar is in the premises that used to be Guitar Man, at the river end of Loi Kroh Rd. I think he is on at about 9 pm.

you can stand by whatever you want mate, 'sarky' apologies aint accepted around here.
You're no doubt reassured by the flood of supportive comments rushing in to back you up. Oh no, wait a minute, there aren't any.
-
your way out of order there pal !
You are right. I was certainly wrong to call you a moron, never mind that the evidence to support such a slur was overwhelming. I apologise for saying that.
As for the rest of the post, I stand by it.

Thanks to Riccardo's great directions, I found it easily today when my wife and I went for lunch. Food was very good and reasonably priced, and the proprietors a pleasure to talk with.
I've never been to that exact location before, and was surprised to see so many westerners among the customers. Is there a district nearby where a lot of overseas residents live?

I don't know if the Bear Bar blues jam is a regular thing. The one the other night was well publicised on their Facebook page, so if you link up to them on Facebook you'll be kept up to date.
Boy's Blues Bar has a Jam Night every Monday. I haven't been to it recently, but I hear that recent Mondays have been very busy, with lots of good musicians coming along to participate.
I get the feeling that tonight might be a busy night at Boy's, so again, if you want a good seat, it might be smart to get there closer to 8 than 9 pm.

Where exactly is his bar?
I know the area fairly well but the last bar I knew him to have changed and is now closed again I think.
Quite fancy coming down tonight if I can find it.
Quite easy to find. Its in the Kalare Night Bazaar, upstairs - just next to the foodcourt and old stage area. The enterance is on the main walkthru from Changklan Rd. You wont miss hearing it.
Yep, piece of cake to find it. Walk into the Bazaar area from roughly in front of the Le Meridien Hotel, then look up. It's an open air podium deck just above all the shopping, between Chang Klan Road and the performance stage.

This thread is a glaring illustration of why I spend so little time here among the wingeing moaning ever-complaining bigots and xenophobes - including the OP, who hasn't spoken a sensible word since the thread began, and who seems to think that if he keeps repeating himself, he'll suddenly enlighten us all with his BS.
These are the very people who, if they were still back 'home', would be flicking through their racist small-world tabloid newspapers and screaming at all the dark-skinned people 'if you don't like it here, why don't you go back to where you came from!?'
The irony of them now being in another country and daring to write off Thais as stupid is pathetic.
The only possible purpose of this winge-fest is the satisfaction of grumpy, unimaginative morons who wake up every morning wondering what they are going to moan about today. In Australia they call them wingeing poms. Here, the only difference is they are not all English.

Boy's Bar definitely does deserve more custom from the local farang population; music is great, location is cool, atmosphere different, bar prices reasonable - and Boy is a lovely guy.

I don't live so far from there, Ricardo - good directions! I know where you are, roughly. So if I go over the irrigation canal heading east, the restaurant is about 100m further on, on the left? I'll give that a try, thanks.

Live music usually starts around 8.45 p.m. It's not a big place - seats about 40 to 45 people , so in case it is going to be busy, it pays to arrive a little early.

I saw Harry play the other night, and he was exceptional. I'll be there on Friday. Should be another great night of live blues at Boy Blues Bar.

No, I think he's referring to "Tuk" who is Boy's uncle and has his own blues club called The Brasserie down on the river.
Since Tuk was nowhere near Boy's Bar that night, I doubt very much if he was referring to him. NowimEasy was right. Boy is the owner, a great blues musician and an all-round great guy.
SCD say's he'd welcome the event's continuation. That's a given, minus the participation of Ped, who was only in town for one day. The jam night happens every Monday. Fine blues music goes on Tuesday to Saturday nights.

Update after the event: What a great night. Ped was magical, and the big crowd was most appreciative. Thanks to all who made the effort to come along.

Update: this looks like being a being a popular night; since the bar has seating for about fifty, it might pay to get there early if you want a seat.

Can anyone give me the Google Map coordinates for Boy Blues Bar?
The main entrance to Kalare Night Bazaar is on Chang Klan Road next to the Le Meridien Hotel. Walk into the market and look up. Boy Blues Bar is the only place on an upper level, an open mezzanine deck above the rest of the market. Can't miss it - and you'll likely hear it easily enough.

If anyone hears of a time when our man will be taking the stage can they please post. Thanks!
Music usually starts about 8.45 and goes until 11.30. Ped will be there sometime in that time frame. The regular musicians are very good too, so having to wait a while for the visiting musician is really no hardship.

Thanks for posting this!
You're very welcome. Please spread the word.

Boy Blues Bar This Saturday Night
in Chiang Mai
Posted
Hot dam_n, wish I was there, but I'm stranded far far away where a hot day is in the high teens C.....
Boy's bar consistently has top quality blues music, and as CMT says, is attracting some great musicians, and deserves its growing reputation among Chiang Mai folks who love live blues.
