At stage one... the very basic question is in whose name is this building being purchased? Westerners do not have the legal rights to buy anything! You can do all exotic legal arrangements to purchase but the reality is no matter what way you try... either in a company or by yourself you will not own it and a Thai person will! Maybe your lease idea is coming from the thought that a foreigner can "buy" using a lease...

The only real earthing that happens here are in houses where the owner is a very smart and rich person - very rare (although many are rich).

Besides this, earthing might be in place for water heaters in showers... no matter how dopey the world may be... people do not like getting fried in the shower!

So, don't stress yourself too much... the plugs are often for show and the sockets are just as effective!

Rental income = 2.4 million over 5 years (40,000 x 12 x 5). After 5 years you have zero assets (as it is only a lease). But the 5 year lease costs 5 million. I think you have just lost money from the first minute you pay for the lease!

As a Westerner, I say that this is very dangerous! To wish such is almost like wishing you live in hel_l/Sodom! If this escalates any more, it could turn to a full scale civil war/revolution. This is insane! The Pound to the Thai Baht is around 47.05 and the $ to the Thai Baht is 32.37. Only a week or so ago it was roughly the same for the $ and about 1 Baht more for the Pound.

I do not see it being in the benefit of foreigners coming here and for all the businesses linked to tourism. Nor do I see it benefiting Thai export businesses. So, who is at the top of the list?

Some .avi files are encoded using various codecs such as divx. The chance is that this is the most likely.

Now, your computer will play these as either you have downloaded these codec packs to view stuff or the pirate computer guy that sold you the computer, without all licensed stuff, included this as well (more likely in Thailand).

Now, divx moves fast... if your tv's player does support it, the chances are it supports something a few months to a year back. Most pirated videos on the net tend to use such codecs.

Solution: Use a program that can read the video and convert it to the most likely readable format i.e. MPEG! Then put it on your USB stick and have lots of fun.

If it isn't divx it will be another codec. Programs such as avidemux etc will convert (more for video editors)... I used to do this using a really easy and free program, but I have forgotten the name. If you want to pay then use Adobe Media Encoder.

The MFA is responsible for Thai embassies/consulates abroad whose services include the issue of visas. The Immigration Bureau is a seperate government department responsible inter alia for the issue of extensions of stay within Thailand. The requirements for extension of stay are detailed in Police Order 777/2551 which you can find under the pinned topic "Useful Immigration Information & Visa Descriptions".

This is probably just of academic value. But your legal document id 777/2551 states: (4) On the filing date, the applicant must have funds deposited in a bank in Thailand of no less than Baht 800,000 for the past three months. For the first year only, the applicant must have proof of a deposit account in which said amount of funds has been maintained for no less than 60 days prior to the filing date; or (5) Must have an annual earning and funds deposited with a bank totaling no less than Baht 800,000 as of the filing date.

And the website is wrong as it is not there call - Immigration provides extensions of stay and the requirement is 800k in a Thai located bank account 2 months (or 3 if not first application) or income of 65k per month in Embassy letter or a combination of the two to meet the 800k requirement.

Re old/new passport: I have a non-imm B visa in the old, and transfer stamps in the new with later extensions of stay. Does that mean the old non-imm visa is still valid?
