  1. I would suggest that unless you are married to a Thai man that you don't worry about it. It is what it is. All the suggestions in the world will not change things here. Might as well bang your head on a brick wall laugh.png

These are Thai problems and from what I have learned Thai's don't like foreigners telling them how to do things wink.png

  2. I had one recently "buy one get one free", but in reality, the promotion price was double the price of actually going to the shelf and purchasing just one.

    Amazing!

Most common I have discovered, is the price on the ticket on the shelf, is seldom the same as what shows up on the checkout screen, its invariably higher at the checkout.

Let me guess, a British Pharmacy? They do it all the time!

They wouldn't get away with it in the UK.

  3. There are immigration offices in Thailand that have stopped issuing a certificate of residence because of whining like this. whistling.gif BTW there is no law that says an immigration office has to issue this document.wink.png

But if you want a driver licens you must have one certificate of residence to the office where you get the driver license.

    Or yellow housebook or workpermit.

They weren't interested in anything to do with work permits at the driving license office in Phuket when I got mine, just a certificate of residence from immigration.

Or did you mean you need a COR to obtain a yellow housebook or workpermit ( sorry if i misunderstood) blink.png

  4. I got my certificate a few weeks ago in Phuket, the immigration officer asked me for 300B til I pointed out it was free, he laughed and quickly changed the subject.I didn't pay.

I too don't understand why there are no camera's in there, they should be behind each officer, so the "alien" and the officer are in the picture! laugh.png

Just like in shops where the camera is on the till - it's to stop the shop assistants stealing as well as keeping an eye on the customer.

If every buddy start to use mobil camera, i start from to day.

No filming or photos are allowed in Immigration offices or any other government building without consent.

I was in the immigration office a few days ago . There was a woman on the end of the row of seats, then a back pack , then an empty seat. I presumed the bag belonged to her and didn't think anything of it. She got up to collect her papers etc and took with her another bag from under her chair and left.

I looked around to see if anyone else had their eye on the bag but no one seemed to be watching it.

I got up and went to the two foreign volunteers to inform them that there was an empty back pack that had been without an owner for at least 30 minutes (the time I'd arrived) .

Instead of the woman saying " oh, thank you for telling us, I'll get someone to check it out" she looked at me and said "so, what do you want me to do about it"? They couldn't have cared less.

Wouldn't you think with all that's going on in the world that in an office full of foreigners from all over the world they'd have had some cause for concern?

I would have thought that government buildings like these are exactly the places where cameras should be!

In my opinion it's just a matter of time before they will have to, then we'll see if this corruption still occurs.

  6. A. You wrote, "He also told me there was a long queue of farangs from all manner of countries and every single one was given a blank TM 30 to get filled. A vast majority took the form and left immigration without continuing with their applications. This was Monday last week. He could not say whether any of these people were applying for retirement extensions, but he was told that when his own retirement visa became due for extension, he would need another TM 30"

    B. Your Headline is, "TM 30 Required at Pattaya Immigration for ALL visa extensions"

I don't know how you get from A to B but......

This is Thai Visa the largest website in the WORLD dealing with Thai Visas. You would think someone could call up Thai Immigration at Jomtein and ask them. There must be someone working at Thai Visa who speaks Thai or someone working at Thai Immigration who speaks English.

The phone number is, Tel: 038 252 750

I think that I and others - both on this thread and earlier threads - have provided a great deal of information to enable me to move from A to B. as a headline. Phuket has arguably even more retirees than Pattaya, and all retirees there now have to produce a TM 30. Why there and not here?

I have not exaggerated or made up anything. I state it the way it is.

You seem to have conveniently ignored the fact that my quoted friend was told to produce a TM30 when he applies for his own retirement extension - at Jomtien....

    Let's see who is right?

I hope you are, but I fear not.

Phuket does not require a TM30. The topic of this thread is not Phuket. Below is the form Phuket requires.

Your friend, however accurate was second hand information and was not getting a retirement extension.

If anyone really cares and is not clickbaiting let them call and report back to all of us. I'd do it except I'm not getting paid to provide Thai Visa information or disinformation.

If you wanted to help people you would call Pattaya Immigration or check with a person who recently got a retirement visa. If you wanted to create doubt and worry you would post a headline like, "TM 30 Required at Pattaya Immigration for ALL visa extensions."

Do you really think with the 100 or so retirement extensions done per day in Pattaya that no one would come on Thai Visa and post a new requriement like a TM 30. Aw come on now.......

It would be different if you posted a copy of the TM 30 and said might ought to have one of these if going for an extension at Jomtein.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/775837-anyone-heard-of-this-immigration-policy/

I was given a TM30 to fill in IN PHUKET, they were not interested in my lease agreement, or my 30 year lease on the Chanote.

The form was for the house owner to fill in, they were required to give ID numbers, name etc, relationship with tenant , how many people were living in the house. My name passport number etc were also needed.

The landlord was not required to be with me when I submitted the form.

I was applying for a Retirement extension.

  7. I just did my annual extension based on work at Chiang Mai a little over a week ago and there was no such requirement. Perhaps a reaction to the bombing and attempts to tighten keeping track of foreigners.

I was told last October that I would need to get my landlord to fill out a TM30 before my extension in November ( in Phuket) so it's got nothing to do with the bombings.

Without this, no extensions will be granted here.( By extensions I mean long stay) The paper is stapled into your passport.

Maybe the order has not reached Chiang Mai yet.

  8. Tried twice at Jomtien to report 3 guests. Think they thought I was ting tong and a nuisance to boot. Gave up in the end and went home. Will risk the 5000 baht fine in future.

It's enough to make you nuts.

One report says you MUST report all visitors, then when you do you get treated like your insane ( depending on the immigration officer that sees to you I suspect) .

Then if you don't, you get fined when they find out. You do at some immigration offices, and you don't at others.

So much conflicting information, or moving the goal posts.

How ever much you try to smile and keep cool it wears a bit thin after a while. blink.png

  9. If you think that "low income lower class type" as you put it are the only kind of people here who would rip you off then you are sadly mistaken. As for "family" I've known many families split over money.

It's difficult for people who post topics on TV to accept the knowledge of others , don't get upset with people, we are not the enemy, we're all just trying to give you good advice and help you to not make the same mistakes that some of us have made long before the internet was here to warn us!!

In an earlier post you said "51% will be divided up between 6-7 different Thai's that DON'T know each other" - how can family members not know each other?

Anyway all the best with whatever you do, I just hope we're not reading your "I was ripped off" story in a few years time. wai.gif

  10. How old is the child?

As Thai law is that you are not the father of the child as you are not married, and if the child is under a certain age then

you must apply to be recognised by the courts as the father of the child, maybe they are tightening up these rules and

giving the Embassies the rules to follow word for word.

My boy will be 2yrs old in March

I agree that there are only two methods in which to 'aquire' fatherhood for a Thai child, the easiest is just to marry the childs mother, & the 2nd is to apply to the Family Court for a Judge to decide. To cut to the 'chase', I do intend to marry the mother in the nearest future, but I need to do a few things before that will happen, as we 'all' know once married everything either of us aquire is owned 50/50.

So my 1st objective will be to create a company, & as I can only own 49% of said company, the other 51% will be divided up between 6-7 different Thai's that DON'T know each other (key point), this gives me control of the company, once created the 'company' will buy land & some vehical's in the company name.

With these objectives obtained I am more than willing to marry my sweetheart, & thus gain fatherhood for my son

I've been told that they are now looking into how companies are set up and that the Thai shareholders must show proof of their investment. This method was used years ago but I wouldn't recommend it now.

They look into everything these days so be warned!

  11. I had a pair of these singing in my garden in Chumphae back in 2007. Not sure whether they were escaped birds or on the edge of their range. They later nested in a pot plant under my kitchen window and i took great delight watching them. However, after the eggs hatched one of the parent birds disapeared. About a week later one of the chicks vanished and then a couple of days later the nest was empty. They were probably taken overnight by my resident Tokay or snakes. Anyway, since then I have neither seen or heard an uncaged bird in the area. Sad.

This is the problem, they have problems with other wild life without humans adding to their survival rates.

From the few replies so far most seem not to have seen these birds flying freely for a while.

I think I read that last year in the UK the RSPB did some sort of online survey to find out what birds were seen in people's gardens over a one week period around the country, from that they were able to get a good picture of declining numbers etc. I know there are TV members in almost every part of Thailand, it would be interesting to see just how many no longer see these birds in their areas.

  12. Not endangered though protected under law.

Well I guess that says it all.

As there seems to be no free ones around my area anymore I won't be able to test it.

On another note, I don't like to see the type (and believe me they are a type) who do try to catch birds hanging around my home, who knows what they're checking out while they're hanging around.

I'd like to lock them in a cage and let them see how it is to be denied their freedom and not be able to fulfil their instincts!

  13. I see many boys with the different cages meant for catching the birds driving around on bikes. If they catch a bird that is still feeding chicks then the chicks will have less chance of survival with only one parent sad.png

I've read that these birds can live for up to 11 years and that they are monogamous. To keep them in a cage just to be able to enter them in a "singing competition" is sickening.bah.gif

I just read checked and you're right , they are supposed to have a license to keep one - it would be interesting to know just how many people have one.

  14. I read the other day that the Red Whiskered Bulbul is an endangered species and that a total of 200 smuggled red-whiskered bulbuls were seized from two men in a forest in Ubon Ratchathani province on Wednesday.

When I first came to Phuket 20 years ago I heard many around the area, now it seems that the only time I hear one it's in a cage hanging outside someones house.I've not seen a free one in my area for years.

I see shops with 20-30 cages hanging outside with birds in them.

If they are an endangered species why is all this allowed to happen?

  15. Do private hospitals charge reasonable prices?

    For who, Thai or foreigners.

When I called the Phuket International hospital a while ago to ask the price of hormone injections I was asked if it was for a Thai or a foreigner. I asked "why is there a difference" to which I was told yes. When I explained that I had a work permit etc I was told it didn't matter. She said there was a difference of 2.000B for that treatment. I wonder if it's the same for operations.

I was shocked, I hadn't realised that two tier pricing was going on in hospitals too.

  16. Just a good job he's not a Muslim, don't think transgender is allowed, maybe just in Indonesia..

He'd be fine in Iran, the government would even pay half towards his op.Plus the sex change would be recognised on his birth certificate. I understand that Iran carries out more sex change ops than any other country in the world except Thailand.

I seem to remember watching something that showed families in Afghanistan who didn't have a boy in the family gladly accepting a girl to play that role , so I guess he'd be ok there too ( in those circumstances that is) .

  17. *conniving

    "Reap what you sow"

When there's only one person left to tell their side of the story it's hard to make a comment.

As NamKangMan pointed out , if people didn't give money in the first place then these problems wouldn't arise.

I once had problems getting some money back from someone, I didn't shoot them, I got a lawyer.

I'm shocked that so many think this girl "asked for it" bah.gif

  18. Call Boonchai at DokMaiSod, his shop is opposite Darasamut School 081-4761262, 076-234801

I've used him for years. He speaks good English and does really beautiful arrangements.

I normally just call him and tell him what colors/ flowers I want, how much and whether a bouquet or basket.

  19. Sounds like a great idea to me.

It's a beautiful and peaceful get-away place already.

To add more "park-like" attractions can only make it better.

They sure have been doing a lot of work over there.

Its a terrible idea for me and hundreds of Thais who have used it for running / biking since it was only a trail. Btw, forget beautiful and peaceful hereafter.bah.gif

Couldn't agree more. Why must everything be a tourist attraction and have a "view point" .It's always been a place to get away from tourists and just enjoy nature. Bus loads of people and all that goes with it facepalm.gif .Another place ruined.bah.gif

  20. This would have had much more effect if done in conjunction with the United States' new secretary for gay rights (I don't know his official designation).

The rights for gays are or should be the same as for anybody else. To create a special government posting for them is saying they are different and in need if protection. That is just so wrong. Where's my special government minister for left handed people?

The fact that the rights of gays are not the same as for for anybody else is precisely why there is a new secretary for gay rights.

I wasn't aware that left handed people couldn't get married, weren't recognised or were treated any differently. blink.png

Can't say I've seen any "left handed people" shoved off buildings and stoned to death either but then that's another topic I guess.wai.gif
