It's seems to me to be just a fatalistic approach to life. As my wife often says - what happens, happens. If live - not your time to die. If die - your time to die. Add to that the complete belief that they will be born again. Seems alien to me at first, but after 22 years with my Thai wife - I just go with the flow.

My main worry is if it's the pilot or the captains turn to die ??

You got to blame the government, 20 years ago boats used to go out in bad weather and wing it, most times get away from it. So 20 years on its still the same money trumps safety

I'm not a gambler but I'd put a bet on that in 20 years time it will still be happening.

I disagree The Captain and owner should be charged with Manslaughter. You got to start somewhere Ok if you don't do anything about this will you let the next one go and the next one. The owner has a hide really by offering compensation. He should be contributing to what caused the accident. Anyway, this time action will be taken because you can bet the Chinese gov has been onto the Thai government to do something. There might be 1.2 billion Chinese on this planet  but they still hate their citizens being killed

Absolutely , they should be punished. But if you think that doing so it will stop the next one and the next one that's where we have to disagree.

There is no fixing this problem, people who "don't listen" can't be fixed either by the Chinese or the Thai government.

"I only recall seeing a general and vague weather warning with the directive to not leave the port the day after the disaster.  Prawit trying to save face and place blame on anything except the government."

    Correct, there was no warning.

And also correct, everybody was allowed out, even stronger, there was no reason not to go out looking at weather and forecast.

"As an aside, are there harbormasters that would be stationed at the ports and assert his authority on any vessels leaving port?
Yes, at Chalong pier from where this boat left there is somebody who raises a flag every morning, indicating boats can go out or not.

I don't see why the government should be blamed.

As I have said, there are laws, there is common sense . People ignore warning signs on the beach every day, people drive without helmets every day, the list goes on.

It will be interesting to see what the captain has to say. Will it be like the bus drivers who always blame the brakes?

Bickering over who's to blame though will not bring those poor people back ☹️

And last night it was my turn. Out of nothing (after eating 2 buns from BreadTalk) i feel like puking and shitting which lasted from around 5pm till 11pm when i fell asleep.

The morning after (now) it is basically all gone except for 1 extremely smelly round on the toilet.

I've had food poisoning before but that was many times worse and lasted much longer. Same with my wife's illness 2 days ago: it comes super quick out of nothing and after 10 hours its all gone.

    TMI ?

    Hope you're fully recovered.

  6. This looks like the factory I had a look round last year. I was given a tour around it by the owner , I'd never seen anything like it. It was absolutely packed with wood and furniture on so many floors, each room leading to yet another and full of Burmese workers with their kids.

Huge containers of thinners and varnish too, no wonder it went up like that.

You're right Somtamnication, there was another fire around there in 2014 and according to this article one several years before that.

If it is the same owners I wonder if they were insured this time around.

Examining the CCTV I note virtually all the traffic was turning right into that street.

I think the bike rider assumed the truck was also going to do so, and was just continuing her inside passing maneuver as they turned the corner.

The truck was going very slowly and his positioning on the road made it seem he was also turning.

(It's amazing, and a little scary, that witnesses stated the truck was speeding when in fact it was almost stationary!!)

I'd not thought of that . "Assume" would never occur to me when driving on these roads , I must remember that one.

I prefer the "wasn't thinking" theory, but maybe you're right.

How many deaths so far on this hill? You wonder how much more proof is needed until something is done. Ban everything but cars would be a start. How about making it one way - up only? Admittedly I don't know the hill but surely there have been enough deaths from vehicles going down that it seems logical to stop them - but, unfortunately logic and Thai don't go together.

Logic seems to be not only a Thai problem :whistling:

If they go up the hill then they still have to go down the other side .
