  1. It depends on where the Thai mother's house book is registered. If it's Bangkok, you can register at some of the amphurs. I registered for my daughter at the amphur in On Nut in Sukhumvit 52. I tried first at the one in Thong Lor but they said I had to go to another one. If you're in an outer province, you can register at the government hospital. You just need the Thai mother's and child's documents. They didn't even ask for my documents although i I had them prepared just in case. You only pay the 30b when you have to go and visit the doc. The amphur will assign a specific clinic to go when your child is sick, and when hospital visits are nessessary, you can then go to the assigned hospital. In my case, the clinic is in Asoke, and the hospital choice is Kluoy Nam Thai on Rama 4, both of which are close to my home in Ekamai.

  3. My wife travels with my daughter frequently on domestic flights within thailand. Never have had to show any documents other than her own ID. But my daughter is under 2 years so we don't book a seat for her. Seeing as your nephew is 6, you'll need some sort from of identification in order to book a seat for him: i.e., a birth certificate, passport or etc should be fine. Theres never been a need for a letter of consent throughout my experiences.

  4. We ship all the time to Australia via Thai post. Australia assigns a new tracking code and usually you'll have to wait about 3 weeks before a claim is really investigated. If you open an account on AU post and open a claim, they are much more helpful. At first they always say that the tracking shows there is no parcel in their system, but this is because AU post assigns a new tracking code once it's scanned in there. After it's scanned in, they will follow up with another email saying is scheduled for delivery or waiting at the post office to pick up. Almost every claim we opened was found and delivered after about 30 days. You just have to wait patiently and you'll get your refund. PayPal will even reopen a case after they close it many times if they find the item was delivered. This has happened to me several times.

  5. I can count on one hand the amount of times I actually needed 4wd in the last 5yrs. A couple times in the mountains driving in Chiang rai (going up Doi Chang area during the rain) and driving around beaches and island like Koh Chang. If you have the money at the time of buying, go for it - if not, it's not really that important. The great thing is when I sold my truck earlier this year, I actually got most of the '4wd' money back. Had it been only 2wd, they would've given me only 310k but instead they gave me just under 400k on trade-in when I upgraded for a new model. I also have a 2wd mu-7 which drives just fine around town just for daily stuff- I wouldn't take it up Doi Chang in the rain or anything, but it has good clearance and I can shove a sofa in the back along with a 50 inch tv if I needed to. I didn't need 4wd for this model since I was using this one for a 'family' car and so I saved myself some money. Basically like everyone else said before, smart buyers get what they actually need -- not a high rise 2wd w/ 35's and custom 20" chrome rims pretending to be an off-road monster parked at Paragon.

  6. IMO, unless you are living in a hilltribe village in Leoi, having 4WD is a waste of money, and even then most heavy 2WD trucks will still go where a 4WD would go. I speak from experience, having had the PreRunner, which was a fantastic bit of kit and went everywhere, including a moist 1/2 road outside Chiang Mai, 7 people up... no hint of spin. I've even seen standard, ancient pickups taking the back road up Doi Suthep in CM from the lake, and that route is unsealed and basically only doable by scrambler in that direction.

There is very little need for 4WD in Thailand (more ins/tax as well?) and there's more to go wrong and most people with it are driving along flat, sealed roads anyway. Sure, there is face to be gained in having a jack'd up vehicle like the PreRunner (not why I got one), but there is even more face to be gained from a 4WD sticker I would say. I personally find that sadder than sticking with 2WD but having the height advantage of seeing over traffic.

So, in coming on here on your high pony, you kind of look a bit silly having wasted money... IMO of course. wink.png

  7. If you're highly skilled, there is opportunity but it's all about timing. It took us 3 months to find a good backend programmer and many companies look for foreigners because the Thai programmers are usually not qualified with the right skill-sets. Most are just frontend php only. There's a market now for skilled programmers with c#, JavaScript, vb applications, MySQL and php experience. We pay our programmers very well and way above average teaching salaries. Best thing to do is post a resume online and develop a portfolio on your website with reference and example work. However, based on experience, companies prefer to recruit when you're already here. Just frequently check the classifieds on thaivisa when you're ready to make the move and you'll find something if you look hard enough and are willing to relocate based on where the company is located. For someone with excellent skills and experience, you could find salaries and offers from around 75,000b and up. I know some programmers here in chanthaburi making over 100,000b. Good luck !

  8. Happening much to often. Over songkran this year, someone threw a beer bottle through my rear window and when I stopped to check it out, I was beated by a gang of Thais. The police were standing close by and witnessed the entire event but were afraid to intervene. They called an ambulance after the event to pick me up and bring me to the hospital. My car was vandalized and destroyed as well. Luckily insurance covered everything but I was still car-less for 3 months as they fixed the damages. Wrong place, wrong time. This happened in Chanthaburi and when I filed the police report, absolutely nothing happened and no arrests were made, despite hundreds of witnesses, including a fellow BIB. <deleted>. Anyways, I've brushed this off as old history and moved on, but now I've learned to never, ever stop when driving a car or bike if at all possible. Just keep going and don't look back!

Sort of a long URL, but I think this one may work without logging in. @somcommlee, totally agree with you and that's why I'm having Thai friends take care of the problem. I just thought if help make it go 'viral' because I'd would be great to find the real owner. It's certainly a pure breed and very well trained too. It jumped right into my car and sat down without complaining and walked right into a kennel like it was home. Not an ounce of anger in it at all, so definitely being missed as it was well taken care of. I think they'll check today for chips ad registration and we already put it up on some Thai sites. Hopefully we can find the owner, if not, a good home at the least. Cheers everyone!

  10. Great! If the owner doesn't step up within the next week, we'll need to find a good home. I have 3 dogs already otherwise I'd bring it home myself. Your neighbor can visit the pet hospital I brought it to.. My friend owns the place and it's called iPet in Rama 4 by the Sukhumvit intersection. He can stop by and have a look and speak with the vet there for more info. My name is Derek and he can say he heard of it from me. Cheers for helping out!

  11. This is the Husky. Beautiful dog...it's safe now with our friend who happens to be a vet...contact me if you know of anything:)

  12. Like the other posters said, you can ask True to remove your number from their spam SMS lists. I did exactly the same and said I couldn't read Thai and wasn't interested. If they don't understand you, just visit a shop that has someone that speaks English or call their hotline. Haven't had a spam SMS in over 3 years; no need to change the number at all.

  13. Didn't the driver notice someone boarding the bus with an axe? Seems like it would be quite difficult to conceal in one's pocket. These assaults seem to be more and more frequent these days. It's a good thing I prefer driving myself and don't take busses or taxis anymore! All busses should require quality dash-cams and taxis should be required to have one too. This would help reducing these horrible acts since people are less likely to commit crimes and assaults when they know they're being watched.

  14. Keep in mind that it is high season right now, so all prices will be up. I just got back from Phi Phi and rooms were over 1000 that would have normally been 500 during any other time of year. If you aren't afraid to walk around for a few hours and ask several places, you will find one eventually, but it will be farther out or just above the noisiest club around. Don't expect TV or Air-Con at that price. If you do a shared hostel type room, you can get for that price or lower. Sometime it fun to stay in these types because you'll meet a lot more peeps this way. When you stay alone an travel alone, sometimes its hard to engage other travelers unless your drunk at a bar, but you can't really sit down at someones table and eat lunch with them without getting a smack across the back of your head and a verbal response like, get the F out of here. In a hostel, you'll meet friends easily and can travel and eat together and save money and have a better time. Make sure u sleep with all of your valuables on you. (Sleep with your pants on and leave the money and stuff i your pockets or wear those little passport holders things wrapped around your neck and tucked under your shirt. Don't worry about your underwear or anything. Your trip will me much more memorable if you met some good mates along the way. Being alone and not really talking to others may be your thing if your just trying to relax and clear the mind. Local thai food on the streets, can be as low as 25 baht - 50 baht. 100 baht and you can for sure get a couple things and walk away with a full stomach. Indoor restaurants of decent mid-range quality will set you back 200 baht or so. If you don't drink much, at least at the bars anyway, you can get by on 15-20 USD a day, but only a few will be happy with this. Give yourself 50 bucks a day budget and you'll be just fine. Have a good time. Id suggest going to khao earn rd in bkk if you're a newbie here. If u need the beach and wanna keep it cheaper, try chonburi rather than pattaya. If you looking to meet girls, then pattaya for sure. BKK Khao Sarn is good for meeting birds too. if you have a couple weeks or more, than go to both. The bus to get to and fro is cheap. Have a good time and be weary of exalts just as much as the locals. duck tape everything to your chest that you don't want to lose and don't ever leave anything in your hotel that worth more than 100 baht:)

  15. I use Kbank and by far it is the easiest. Once you get your Kbank debit card, go to an ATM and apply for internet or web card..something similar, I forget the exact verbiage. You will then receive an SMS immediately and after that you are done. Go to paypal and use your Kbank debit card to open the account. To make payments, you can use the card direct but have to make sure that you have the money in the account obviously. To withdrawal funds, you will need to enter in the actually bank account details in the setting section of Paypal and when you withdrawal, it goes directly into your bank. Take about 1 week to transfer. Make sure like th previous poster mentioned, that you use your name and address exactly as your bank has on file, otherwise withdrawing funds will penalize you until you can provide the ecaxt details. You only need to do this one time and you are good to go. All-in-all, it took me 15 minutes to set up and begin using the paypal account. If you lose you debit card, its easy to change the default card in the paypal settings to make payments and you won't need to change the account number because that remains the same. Ive lost my card like 3 times and took about 2 minutes to update/add a new card to the account. (Soory, i don't bother to take the time to spell check for these things so if i wasn't clear on anything, let me know and ill clear it up. Aloha!
