  1. If you don't want to walk around in the heat in small mysterious soy's looking for a tiny shop that is run by those that won't understand a word you say unless you can speak Thai, there are quite a few in MBK. A bit more expensive, but sometimes it's worth not having to deal with all the mom and pop shops. Although I prefer to give my money to the smaller businesses when I can, for things like this, its just easier to go to a mall, where they will understand exactly what you want and you can still haggle the price as well. Last time, I had 20 shirts made and paid about 200 for each shirt. The material was wood quality but my design was quite simple. If you want high quality and a complex design, expect to pay more. Obviously, the more you buy, the less for each shirt. I had some done at a small shop in Phrong Pom somewhere in a deep and small soi and paid only 120 baht for each shirt. If you see any of those shops around you that sell those orange motorbike taxi vests, they can usually do the screening as well. Bring your Thai friend and hide behind a tree and you save a butt-load. Cheers.

  2. Take a screen shot of the one page and print it out as JPEG or PNG.

You can also convert it to a Word doc using one of several programs out there. There are some free ones online if you google it. One online program I remember even lets you choose which pages of the PDF you want to convert and it will do it in less than a minute. Then you can download it and print the 1 page you need.

If you have a Gmail or Google account, you can use Google Docs to convert it to word as well.

  3. It is just SCB. I had the same problem. If you have K-bank, you can activate internet debit card through an ATM and it takes less than 1 minute. You can then withdrawal to your bank account direct with no problems. I even entered in to Paypal incorrect billing/home address as I could not recall what I used when I opened the account, so I used my current address which is definitely wrong and it still ant through. I would suggest taking the time to open a K-bank account if you plan on using PayPal, SCB is the worst for internet purchases and Credit Card inquiries.

P.S. The name on my bank account is in Thai, but it is identical on my Paypal account (in Thai), however the SCB account name has the title 'nay' in front, and the Paypal doesn't. I thought this could be the reason, but then, like I said before, I did receive the verification payments fine...puzzling!

I found that even a small deviation between the Paypal details and the bank can be an issue. I don't live in Thailand but this happened to me. It has to be absolutely identical. In my case, it was an abbreviation that caused a problem.

  4. Points A,B,D and F should not be an issue. Any person qualified for the job should already be proactive and will learn and absorb these details with "on the job" experience. If they haven't done so by the 90 day probation period, then they need to be let go. This person should have the yearning to learn everything about the business, inside and out. This is an important quality to look for, because if they are not interested in improving themselves, then the most likely will not care about improving the company.

Point C, it up to you. Successful management as all about delegation of duties. Since it seems that you will be his senior, you need to decide what are some things that can be delegated and what needs to remain with you. You will need to inspect what you expect as the senior manager. If you have delegated duties, follow up and make sure they were really done completely to your standards. If not, you accountable. Start with making a list of everything that you do and add to that list things that you want to improve/expand on. Since there are 2 of you, your duties need to adapt and expand so that business continues to grow. If you upper management sees that adding an additional person did nothing for the bottom line, then you both may be expendable.

    Hope my 2 cents helps.

PS, if you have any thing, PM the details. I may know some great people for the position or perhaps myself if it beats my current wages :-)

  5. Labor department told me if my money was coming from overseas no work permit was needed as long as I wasn't working in a public location for any registered thai company. (Which means work at home.)

They are not interested in foreigners who work overseas via the internet because farang is not earning money from within Thailand or preventing a Thai from earning the money. (I did this for about a year for an internet company.) Now I work for an actual Thai company here and have the WP and fun stuff.

Just get a Non-B visa before coming here and do 90 day border runs. If you can't get another renewal each year from the the consulates in SE Asia, then fly home and get another one or get double tourist visas which will get you basically 6 months each time and you can do that 2 or 3 times to get you through another year.

Maybe, by then, you'll get married to a Thai and you can get a marriage visa based on the money on your bank. (400,000B - US bank if fine) - Then you will never need to worry about the visa part again. BTY, let me know if your company needs anybody else! My job is boring me to death......

  6. The 2nd hand Mac store is on the 5th floor by the Food Hall. There isn't much on the 5th floor so if you stroll through the area where all the restaurants are on the 5th, you should find it. I would probably go and talk to them first as it would suck to lug it down there and end up not selling it and lugging it home again. BTY - what are you asking for it? Some posters themselves may be interested and PM you arrange an offer. rakmans right - the offer wasn't too bad but I just wasn't really needing to sell. They are a business and they do have overhead and a keystone markup is not unheard of. If they offer you less than 10K let me know and maybe Ill take it off your hands....

  7. Depends. Where are you located and how much are you asking for it? Post some pics and specs in classified on Thaivisa/BahtSold/BKKcraigsList. There is also a 2nd hand mac store at MBK that would buy it, but not for what you would expect. They offered me 8K for a macbook that I bought in 2008 and I decided that i'd rather use it as paper weight than give it away to them at that price just to see them sell if for 15K+.

  8. I had this problem awhile back with annoying messages and I use True. If you go to the shop, which is a hassle but worth it, the one in Siam can speak good english - just tell them that you do not want any SMS from them or any other advertisers and they can block it. Its possible cause I did it. I never get any message from true or ringtone spam/games/ etc. anymore.

  9. You can go to MBK and get a sim card there and have it cut down. They can turn any sim card into a micro-sim no problem. I know they have Blackberry pay as you go sims with data-internet, but not sure about iPhone data plan sims pay, but you can use a BB sim on an iphone and it works fine (I use my BB sim on my Iphone all the time). If you just want to make phone calls and dont care about data, you can use any sim at all.

  10. iPhones from singapore are factory unlocked. No need for Jailbreak or Unlock - can use any micro-sim. Jailbreak is when you want to install free apps or customize you phone that you cant do with Apple's programs. Unlocking is something you do after you Jailbreak so you can use any carrier. There is a Jailbreak for 4.1 OS but no unlock available yet. You shouldnt have a problem anyway since your's will be factory unlocked already.

  11. Mine is afactory unlocked Iphone with cydia apps and jailbroken already. I have 4 email accounts (2 Push) and check them frequently. I never turn off Wifi or notification. I leave off bluetooth and location only and turn them on when I need to. The trick to good battery life that will help alot is turning off Spotlight Search and then rebooting your phone. Go to general - spotlight search and then deselect everything. Nobody uses this anyway. You should see a huge difference in your battery cycle. Hope that helps. Oh and I am on 4.1 firmware.

  12. If it is factory unlocked you can upgrade to the latest 4.1 firmware. Itunes will ask you if you want to upgrade, so it if it not factory unlocked then do not upgrade. Itunes will not downgrade your firmware at all. You should restore and then make sure you select "set up as a new phone". After you restore, just sync to Itunes to get everything back on your phone. If this doesn't solve it, then you may have a hardware issue.

How many apps do you have running in the background? This may well be the problem (assuming you're on iOS 4 or higher).

hi there, I just went through them all and I do not have many, about 22 not including the ones that came on the phone when I bought it. I am on iOS4.1 I think, the latest one as I updated this a few days ago thinking that might help.

I just cleared a couple of Apps that I do not use and re-booted again but still slow.

if I try a full factory reset through iTunes, will that put me back on the first iOS system or the latest do you know?

    Thank you

  13. I just bought mine 2 days ago at MBK - took me a few shops to bargain the price. Got a software unlocked 16G for 23,800 Baht. Great deal in my opinion. The true shop said 4-6 weeks before they would get more and even then they will probably be gone the same day anyway.

  14. There is a cheap gym near Rama 4/Asoke intersection. 500 baht a month for a membership. Its not California wow or anything but they have everything you need to get a good work out.

Also for Bikes in BKK, just buy a second hand one. There is a shop by Theptarin hospital on Rama 4 (Take Sukhumvit 36 all the way down and you will reah Rama 4..take a left and about 500 meters on the right you will see a motorbike shop) that has a plenty to choose from. I paid 6000 baht down and pay 2,300 a month. Just need a work permit or a thai or 2 to guarantee. They are easy to negotiate so if you dont have a work permit or guarantee, I'm sure you can work something out with them...TIT

Also, its really easy to get a license in BKK to drive. The Dept of Transport is off of Mo Chit bts and you can apply and get one within an hour if you already have a license from home. If you don't already have one, you need to do a little more leg work, but it is still pretty easy. First thing you'll need is to visit your embassy and get a letter from them that proves your living address. All the rest of the paperwork you can get at the DoT.

  15. I 2nd the Saxaphone pub at Victory monument. Super relaxed and good ambiance. Best thing is you can pre-game it and get a couple cheap beers at the beer garden opposite the place beforehand.

  16. Don't get a curve, you'll regret it. It is worth the extra baht for 3G service and BB service in Thailand is the same price no matter which model you buy (No discount for using only EDGE) If you're gonna pay for 3G service, you might as well use it. The bold 9700 is lightning fast compared to the curve. Just be sure to choose the right bold model before you buy. If you use AIS, you can use the T-mobile model. (You should be able to get this model for cheaper), if you use Truemove - you need to get the AT&T model in order to use 3G service.

  17. I just bought an engagement ring - 18K white gold .36 carat center-stone. H color SI quality Hearts and Arrows cut - really good deal at Anyani gems at MBK. I stopped at probably every single shop there and they had the best deals. The price tag said 46,000 and I got it for 21,000..Haggle the price..but if your just buying gold and no diamonds the price will not be as negotiable. But they do have some nice gold bands in 18K. you probably wont find anything 14K as Thais will not even sell or buy back. You will also get a guarantee card with them and you can trade in or upgrade for a 10% fee of what you paid - diamonds are harder to resell than gold in Thailand. This shop is on the 2nd floor of MBK...Just down from Burger King about 200 meters. Strange.. I just realized I bought an engagement ring from a shop next to Burger King....

  18. BUMP. Somebody with TrueMove please comment on their service quality.

Truemove service is exceptional. If you do change, I suggest going with the 899 promotion and you get unlimited wifi/3G/Edge/GPRS and free true-to-true calls. I made the mistake of not choosing this promotion and racked up a bill of over 3000 baht for too much talk time. Get the SMS package of 150 sms for 75 baht and your bill should not exceed 1000 baht, unless you call other networks a lot. Everyone I know uses true, so it works for me.
