As of 2019 Thailand has a Labour force of approximately 38m, of those 11m work in agriculture so should not be affected, that leaves 27m who may be affected. You exclude the 2m that work for the government and that would leave 25m that are potentially eligible so if 24.2m people applied it’s saying 96.8% of the entire non farm and government workforce is out of work. That’s a bit hard to believe even for the Thai government.

it looks as if the entire population saw this as a big freebie and applied for every member of their family whether they were actually eligible or not. The result is most likely that a lot of the genuine eligible applicants were not successful either.

Now that THAI airways is no longer flying, the chances of a “Do You Know who I Am” tantrum at an airport checkin are probably quite low. When they do occur I suspect TSA or whatever airport police are responsible for security will not be interested in negotiating.

What is this world coming to when people are more concerned about criminals making a racist remark than them beating and robbing a person in broad daylight in the street. 

The Deputy Agriculture Minister is the guy that went to jail in australia so that censure is going to enthrall the people.

The Thais have not announced updated numbers since Jan 27. There was a thread on here yesterday quoting the nation newspaper saying that provincial hospitals are not allowed to announce anything by order of the health Department but it seems to have disappeared

Of course I do not know “to what extent” but neither do you ( unless you are an actual scientist ) But I think we could both agree it’s probably bad right. How bad is better left to people who actually know. When you say there is not much evidence about the severe consequences of air pollution I would say, that’s not 100% correct and if you look there is some good stuff out there, you should try google and you may be surprised what you find.

As far as me being a troll or a recent visitor from another planet, I think most readers would probably agree my responses are actually logical whereas you posts claiming that “ there’s really not much evidence about the severe consequences of air pollution in cities around the world......” is pushing against the realm of credibility that may indicate that you are a troll or recent visitor from another planet.

Yeah what’s all that about? You’d think the Climate change movement could find somebody with some actual academic credentials to speak to world leaders. I guess it’s the novelty of having the message sent from a 17 year old. I wouldn’t be surprised if next year the anti climate change movement trotted out a 12 year old at Davos.

BTW why do they have to wear a scarf and tuck their pants into their boots. Is that mandatory dress code for climate change activists? Does it make what they say more credible? I bet that’s why they don’t do radio. 

Sure stopping using fossil fuels will help stop pollution, I don’t know to what extent but sure it will help. We could also kill all the sheep and cows to stop them farting methane and we could eat all our vegetables on our plate and not throw them in the trash so they don’t create methane in land fills as well. Please add those to your list as I’m with you and want to contribute to stopping climate change in its tracks.

Climate change is a 5 trillion dollar industry so anyone that challenges it’s existence or actual impact is censored either by people who have a vested interest in keeping the money train rolling or by the general public who have drunk the koolade.

We should be spending that money on Stopping pollution and cleaning up the planet, oceans etc. If there’s any change left we should cure cancer as well.
 

Pretty much all the armchair commentators on both sides of the argument are regurgitating “facts” they’ve read on the internet or seen on TV. They ( including me ) wouldn’t know squat about real climate science.

What I do know is when you think of the huge amount of money involved keeping the gravy train rolling, would you even consider that some of the data may be just a teeny tiny bit corrupted to support the popular position. Would you really be shocked if a Politician, government or a corporation manipulated data to support their position - or do you think that doesn’t happen in the real world.
 

Maybe climate change is just the latest boogeyman that governments use to keep themselves elected and the population cowered under their yoke. We had WMD, the Cold War,  the Domino theory, MAD, To scare us into submission and now we have climate change - It’s really the perfect killer app boogeyman as it can’t be quantified, you can spend unlimited money fighting it and no one will question it, and there is absolutely no accountability as nobody expects actual verifiable results to fix it.
 

Opposing the climate change movement is pure folly. Whether you believe it or not makes no difference it’s not going away so if you can Think of a way to profit from it good luck to you ( and let me know )

The Baht is actually managed against a basket of currencies with the USD being the largest component.

The strength of the Baht is pretty much due to supply and demand. Thailand exports more than it imports so the the foreign demand for baht to pay for the Thai products exceeds the Thai demand for $ to pay for what the Thais import. 
 

You may say why don’t foreigners pay in $ - well sometimes they do but the Thais want Baht not $ so they convert them to Baht and the dollars end up at the central bank in reserves. 
 

As long as Thailand exports more than they import the Baht is not going down. (Unless the government or Thai companies borrow huge amounts of $ and miss-allocate the capital into non producing assets and cannot repay it. Then the Baht will implode.)

If you go through the court legitimization method It will take a minimum of 3 months as you will need to go through a interview process with social services and wait for them to process that before you can get the court date. Cost is around 20-30k depending on the lawyer you hire.

Yes but that was the immigration dept not the DLT. The DLT still accept them from other countries,  but Australia threw the baby out with the bath water and won’t sign any stat dec’s for use in Thailand.
 

I was thinking to try an official  Aust Stat dec form with Commonwealth of Australia emblazoned on it but just get it notarized by a local notary instead. The Australian government says a local notary is authorized sign it so maybe it’s worth trying. Maybe it’ll fly at the DLT if they don’t care too much.

If you have the new Thai elite that gives you a one year visa then you’re ok you can still get your 5 year license renewed. Mine is the original Thai elite with 3 month extensions so I can  

only get a 2 year license.

I don’t want to go off topic but when you buy a condo you get a blue book and because you’re a foreigner they do not put your name in it. You get a chanote with your name on it.

I’m tearing my hair out trying to renew my 2 year Thai drivers license. As I’m on an original elite visa i can only renew for 2 years at a time. Historically I went the the Australian embassy and filled out a statutory Declaration stating my address, but as I found out when I went there the Australian Embassy will no longer witness a statutory declaration for your address or any for any use in Thailand. If they witness a statutory declaration it must be for use in Australia. 
 

So I then go to Chang Wattana immigration armed with a brick of photocopies. No problem BUT they won’t do it there and then, they mail it to you “ in about a month” . I pleaded my case for an express service and offered to pay whatever for it but to no avail.

My problem is that I am leaving for Australia in early December and my Thai license will expire this month so I won’t have a valid license in Australia. To boot I think the residency letter from immigration is only good for 1 month so it may be expired by the time I return in mid January.

I don’t have a yellow book, a pink card or a work permit, I own my condo and have a valid TM 30 receipt.  Does anyone know if the Dept of land transport at Sukhumvit Road bangchak will take these as proof of address.

Alternatively I downloaded the Australian Stat Dec form and I’m wondering if I got a Thai notary public to witness it, if the license issuing office would accept it. ( the Australian govt website clearly says it’s ok for a Foreign Notary Public to witness my signature on a statutory declaration.

Any ideas.

Last year I lost my TM6 and had to do a police report at my local police station and bring it to Changwattana before they issued me with a new one. There is a desk at Changwattana that deals with lost TM6 forms. You also will need an extra copy of your passport details page. I cannot remember if you also need a copy of your last entry page in the passport so best to bring one just in case.

if you leave the country without a TM6 they just do one at the airport no questions or forms required. 

When I did my extension of stay at CW and 90 day report at the beginning of July it was the extension of stay department (N1) that pulled me up on no TM30. I did my 90 day report first (they did not mention the TM30), then I did my extension of stay where they pulled me up on the no TM30, and finally I did the TM30.

I had been dismissive of watching Gomorrah because of having to read subtitles but I broke down and watched it and I have to say it was really excellent. It’s incredibly violent and black, Quentin Tarrintino could probably learn a few lessons by watching it. I watched the first 3.5 seasons on Kodi but I had to go to Pirate Bay for the last few episodes as halfway through the 4th season I could only get French subtitles instead of English on Kodi.

if you haven’t seen it and can put up with something that is violent and depressing then it’s very good watching. 

After i I watched Gomorrah I watched Subbura another Italian series and while it was not as good as Gomorrah it’s still worth watching.
