Who is the other guy then that they paraded around all the time. I am confused now.
I am not one to defend the Thai police on consistency matters, but in this case they have always maintained the guy arrested on saturday was 'just' linked to the bombing and that he was not the yellow shirted bomber himself.

Army chief says bomb suspect revealed three other accomplices
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/852443-mystery-man-in-bangkok-bomb-probe-never-said-a-word/
Mystery man in Bangkok bomb probe 'never said a word'"The suspect never said a word," the officer added.Strange isn't it?
If you choose and pick what you quote, sure it's strange. You forgot to include or left out the following preceding line in your quote 'When security forces burst into the building to make the arrest, the man declined to speak, even through a Turkish translator, according to a plain-clothes special branch officer who joined the raid'

It just seems as if they get up in the morning, thinking 'who shall we blame/eliminate today', it has changed so many times now...all without any evidence to base it on. It's painful to watch, I can not even imagine how painful it must be for those directly affected.

Amateur night? Give us a break. The bomb was very sophisticated.
The bombs are being reported as pipe bombs. Pipe bombs are not sophisticated when it comes to explosive devices. The authorities have stated that the shrine one was detonated on a timer, not remotely detonated. The only difference to previous devices used in Thailand is that they were enhanced with ball bearings instead of the normal scrap metal and nails.
This is going by what has been reported up until now. If it was a pipe bomb, then it was not very sophisticated.
Sophisticated enough to kill 20 innocent people and injure over a hundred. In your expert opinion, what should deaths/injuries add up to before you'd refer to a bomb as 'sophisticated'?

I realize many who post on ThaiVisa Forum are farang living in Thailand. I will follow this thread all week. I am retiring next year and was going to spend 6 months living in Thailand. I have been spending 3 months a year and a few long sabbaticals since 1989 in Bangkok. A great place to visit and a good country to use a base while u see all of S.E.Asia. Frankly, I am having second thoughts. It will be interesting to see how the next 9 months of so play out before I have to make my trip. Or not! This is a great forum to get a bird's eye view of what people are thinking. So post and vote on.....
No, ThaiVisa is really a forum for highly cynical expats who seem mainly concerned with local beer prices and temporary bar closures. I would definitely not base my decisions on what I read on ThaiVisa. That said, some of the comments here are absolutely gold and personally I enjoy the sarcasm and dry humor flying around. Just put it all in perspective.

"The man in yellow can't be a foreigner, because he seemed to know his way around."
This statement is patiently asinine. I used to take trips around the north and north east of Thailand on a monthly basis. Loei, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Phitsanuloc, Uttaradit, Nakon Sawan, Chiang Dao, Chiang Rai, and never once had any problem quickly locating points of interest in any of these cities, and I'm sure as hell not a Thai.
"The man in yellow can't be a foreigner, because he seemed to know his way around." If idiot statements like this still surprise you and invoke a reply using logic as demonstrated above, you're not that integrated yet

According to The Guardian, China thinks it was aimed at Chinese tourists... LINK
Sure, for the Chinese govt it's as convenient to blame the Uighurs as it is for certain Thai to blame the redshirts. We know all the theories...please let's focus on the facts and hopefully solve this heinous act of terrorism!

Our fearless leader brings to mind a lyric from someone called Bob Dylan:
"Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your mouth".
Why don't they simply pick up the phone and call one of 100 competent countries police forces to help.
Well, the UK (with very strong anti-terrorist skills thanks to the IRA bombing campaigns) has offered to help but of course it was turned down. They might come across something inconvenient and then there is the face issue of course.

I guess he's going to get a lot of business for lottery tickets. This is seriously a lead? My lordy lord
With all due respect, if someone warns on social media that a bad event will happen in Bangkok within a time frame of 4 days, and then something very bad indeed happens within those 4 days, I would expect the authorities to want to have a word with that person, no?

If one thing is obvious from this thread, then it is that people seem unable to distinguish between somewhat discreetly answering nature's call in a public place and whipping it out in full sight on the back of a moving public transport vehicle. And if one is unable to distinguish between this, then how convenient to just use it and blame a group of people one holds a grudge against.

Same here, first Eurosport then Skynews went. Fox News I care less about, for a news channel at least, but it was good entertainment on rainy days.
Seems GMM-Z doesn't care too much about their non-Thai clients. Perhaps we should write them. I will.
Anyone know of other good options with a PSI dish?

Why does he need to steal? Perhaps he should return to his country to build more wealth, before coming back here for his fun.
Many people who steal, have an illness, nothing to do with poor
Don't you just love it, how everything is an illness these days? The great thing about that is that it totally discards personal responsibility which will appeal to those that don't have it. Drinking 3 liters of soda a day and being obese? Oh, I just have this illness. Shoplifting? Sorry, I'm sick. Alcohol abuse, leading to road carnage or domestic abuse? Well, alcoholism is a disease, nothing I can do about it.
Give me a break.

To all of the selfish cowards and sissies insisting that one should walk away, you are the reason this is a crooked, violent, corrupt place, and you need to put on your big girl panties, get out your own video recording devices, and do something about it. But you won't.
Recently moved to Thailand? Or just visiting now and then?

Self defense is a good enough reason for Bail
Until proven otherwise, he was protecting himself...
I guess being told to stop doing something you have every right to do, then getting beaten up for doing nothing illegal, buy someone who does not have any authority to do so, would lead to an incident like this....
That, and what also could lead to an accident like this is stopping on your way from a meeting going home and involving yourself by filming a dispute in which you had no part until you decided to involve yourself

How does this article today coincide with yesterdays article that TAT was going to promote the fact that Thailand is under Martial Law as a plus, giving the tourists a greater sense of security. (I am not endorsing yesterdays article, just trying to compare the stark differences between the two directions. How can you turn 180 degrees in 24 hours?)
Well, today it's not TAT saying this...this might actually be a reaction by the industry to TAT's ridiculous (martial law tourism) idea from yesterday. If anything, it shows how disconnected TAT is.

This defies belief...

Please stop it! I had not even recovered from the whole wristband tagging claim and then they follow it up with this one. The 2015 course has pretty much been decided upon, it will start in Utrecht about a 12 hour flight from here and Thailand will not be part of it, period. I saw the original press release by TAT which literally had the subject line: Tour de France to be held in Thailand next year. It's scary to think these people are responsible for one of the biggest sectors of the Thai economy.

They won't do DNA as that would be the logical thing to do. Instead, they're scratching their heads and wish he'd worn a wristband with a GPS tag...

What makes me wonder is how many people think that this is a Thai idea ???
Back in 2001 people got themselves microchipped in the US on free will [out of fear of terrorism].
In Amsterdam and Madrid people are accepting micro chip inplants for night clubs.
Pretty much everybody is running around with an electronic tracking device all the time ... a mobile phone
The plans to chip the entire population is a hard fact in the USA. [also the UK ... Government surveillance paradise ]
In Thailand things just work a bit more basic and honest ... in the rest of the world people accept things like this
thinking it's an achievement. [which is just plain stupid].
All the Government needs to do is get the mobile phone numbers of the tourists [which hotels usually have]
and all the rest is just tracking the phone [which ALL providers do anyway].
Or just call apple or google ... they track all phones anyway. [not even to mention most intelligence agencies world wide].
So ... don't worry about wristbands as long as you run around with a phone all day.
Well if that were true it's still a stupid idea no? If phones don't do it, what makes you think 'more basic and honest' wristbands will?

It's quite amusing (putting aside the actual seriousness of the events leading to this) the way the police are going about solving these murders. In a PC western country this sort of DNA mass gathering and mass detentions would not even be contemplated due to civil rights and legal wrangling. Might not be western PC but that the police have one suspect firmly in custody and are on the trail of another suggests that away from the norm they may solve a Falang murder and gain some much needed start point of respect from the western world.
Two things from this case to date come to mind. One that with a good hard kick up the backside from the Junta leader the RTP are capable enough in spite of their lack of modern crime solving resources and second that the RTP are very much in need of having that expertise and resource made available to progress their ability to get results more efficiently and professionally. Another tool in beating corruption is applying professionalism and enjoyment to ones work.
Thats bullshit. In my country, that is as western and social democratic as they get, mass gathering of DNA is very much done when a murder is discovered and an exact time and location can be found. Mass dententions wont happen, but mass interogations happen.
I think he may have been talking about the USA, and not a civilised country.
You must be familiar with the 45th Second amendment where we Goddammit have the right as Merkins to shove a gun up our Asses and Damn well have the Right to choose with the Liberty and God Given rights as Merkins to pull the trigger or not. No need for a three day wait period Goddammit.
Goddamm DNA testing - its my right as a freedom luvvin Merkin to frustrate them Commo bastard POlice every which way. Make Em prove I killed the Motherf...r.....dammit, evrymans right ain't it.
Didn't we invent the Goddam TOOTHBRUSH!! (if it had been invented in Canada it would have been called a TEETHBRUSH)
GODDAMMIT
I must add an apology to my American mates - just having a joke - I'm sure you understand.
Never a good idea to hit the bottle this early...

My wife has family that live on Koh Tao and Koh Phagnan.
She had a chat with her cousin yesterday on Koh Tao and everyone there knows who did it. Probably known since the day after the crime.
Therefore, the police must have known too.
Only conflicting info from her, was that it was the nephew of a village headman ??
Looks like they will get the right people eventually though, more due to international pressure than good police work.
RIP the deceased..
Well, given the fact that the Thais do not like to gossip and that they would never make accusations without solid evidence, this is good news! What a pity then these people on Koh Tao only told your wife 9 days after the fact instead of the investigators the day after the murders happened.

Ok, for the Thai it would have been great to dump this on a Myanmar worker or a farang, but now that it seems fair to say that all this has been explored and turned negative, perhaps it would be worth it to look at the locals as well?
