  1. Are you saying they abandon these dishes at the customer's house or take them away and destroy them?

If the latter, I don't feel 'done'

  2. I cancelled my true account and when the teq came around he said he would sell me the dish for 500 baht and the grammy box for 1000 baht. I said ok. My wife called grammy, registered the box and now we have 60 channels. Change menu to english, go to track set and change to left, not stereo. grammy said as far as they know there will be no charge for the time being and not for the forseeable future. so, free tv. Not so bad. Some progs in english, the rest in thai. Enjoy

  3. We decided to go to Krabi on the spur of the moment 2 days before I should have done my 90 day reporting. I wrote to you guys at thai visa for advice and the general feeling was... no problem.

I should have reported to CH.W. on the 5th of April but we arrived back on the 7th. This morning, (9 april,) I went to my agent who takes my passport on my behalf. She told me that I would have to pay the maximum fine of 5k as the rules have changed, but she would talk to them and maybe only pay 1k. CH.W. was closed on the 6/7/8/9 april so my passport will go tomorrow.

Who's right, who's wrong? I feel like I'm being ripped off but maybe it's just paranoia.

    Any ideas?

  4. While I agree that this person was a bloody idiot for wanting to go against company rules, I do not agee with the violence against him. If the balloons were so important he should have taken a taxi. He only lived a couple of stops away.

Most thais believe that if a westerner oversteps the mark it is their right to inflict physical/abusive punishment. This shows an underlying resentment for caucasian forigners which comes to a head in such cases.

    Was he stupid? yes.

If a stupid thai acted the same way, same result? no.

    Was he "a brit" no

Do thais actually like westerners? no, but they suffer them for their own selfish reasons.

  5. When I first saw the news concerning an irishman trying to take balloons on the skytrain I though "bloody idiot" but the continuous reporting of this inccident by channel 3 has started to piss me off. It's been on prime time news now at least 3 times and has lasted 20 minutes each time. (murder, rape, drugs, corruption, half the coverage time)

Why is it so important for ch 3 to show this repeatedly?

I don't feel the least bit sorry for him but I do feel sorry for his daughter. He said he didn't know the rules. I doubt that and ignorence in the law is no excuse. But all this coverage shows a deep dislike of westerners.

Example: We've been going to a restaurant for several years, always polite, always tip. The day I complained, my god, they turned into savage dogs. I have lived here a long time and Know there is a hatred hidden deep inside of most thais for westerners. Don't kid yourselves, it's there. You overstep the line and they attack.

several thais attacking one guy is the norm here but come on, he's not exactly the hulk! Both parties were to blame, this is not as one sided as ch 3 would like you to think.

    Kernow.

  6. Thank you gentlemen for your informative replies. Can someone please confirm that if I report 3 /4 days late then there will be no penalty. the reason I ask is that the agent who usually takes my passport to CW says there will be a fine if my passport is taken on the 10th of april and not on the 5th. Is he telling the truth or just looking for a "tip"

Your advice is received with gratitude.

  7. Love it....!

I'm sorry but this type of posting cannot be allowed to flourish.

Before you know it we will be having posts about honest taxi drivers putting the meter on without asking and jet ski guys helping out people on the beaches of Pattaya and Phuket. ;)

  8. I totally agree with what you have said. It took me a while, but it's true.

Many newbie farangs come to Thailand believing that Thailand is some sort of Disney type paradise wonderland, the streets are paved with gold and that all Thai people love and respect the great white Ghana.

Those of wealth also believe that by throwing money and gifts around they can purchase the loyalty of women, have everything a Thai woman wants, can buy themselves best friends and have those which provide services jumping about for them because the philosophy is; those who hold the gold, determine the rules.

A person cannot own people or buy true friendship and respect. As a matter of fact this can have the opposite effect. Thai people can come to resent the presence of these foreigners in their land, the love and respect can quickly turn to hate.

In Thailand farangs are tolerated but not necessarily liked. I know that some of the opinions of the locals in my area are, farangs can live in Thailand because they can enjoy a better lifestyle and have all the benefits of Thailand far cheaper than in the home countries at the expense and labours of the working class Thais.

This is how many of them feel, probably the majority and there is no reasoning with some of these people.

We are second class citizens over here, whether we have truckloads of cash or not, but this is not strictly true because in most cases we are not even allowed to become citizens of this country.

Farangs who decide to lay their hats in Thailand should realise these facts and live over here accordingly by not taking too many risks or gambles and not putting too much trust in Thai people. Not because Thai people are bad, but because we are a people living in an alien land with virtually no statutory rights and extremely vulnerable.

Thailand is still a wonderful country to live, but just be realistic, aware and stay safe.

  9. Oriental Hotel inhouse Thai cuisine cooking course. Not suitable for the bored housewife or debutante. Suitable for the student who wishes to perfect several popular Thai dishes.

Oxford,Harvard, Stanford ? Le Cordon Bleu is for bored housewives and debs who need to know a couple of dinner party recipes and what wine not to serve. Certainly not for budding, future Michelin star chefs. As a former graduate of Leiths School of food and wine, Kensington,(1 million baht)I know LCB is not for serious cooks.

Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School is basically number one in Thailand. There are a few other Universities in Bangkok those are geared towards Thai's. Now if your goal is to get a career in this field then Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School would be the wise choice.

When you say the price is expensive, and I've looked at their prices. Expect some investment, if you are an American citizen, you might be able to qualify for a student loan or you can call mommy and daddy for the money. Well, you get what you pay for and can have the honor of putting that school down on your resume. It's like putting down Oxford, Harvard, Stanford Universities, it's the name.

Ok. Then you pay for his tution, housing and transportation fees to your Leiths School of food and wine in Kensington.

    Why?

  11. Thanks for that info on the website, I went to the website, found the distributors number, she was very helpful, A Thai lady called Annie her mobile is : she told me she sells it to bars and restaurants mainly, but she delivered a case to my house today and charged me 50 baht a bottle x 24 = 1200 baht, tins always seem to have that tinny and gassy taste to me and of course a lot more expensive than the Thai cider, I am personally from Somerset the heart of cider country and it was quite a surprise to me how good it is, theirs no chemicals or additives in it , guess what i woke up without an hangover blink.gif Thats a 1st considering its 5.5 alcohol content, blink.gif

Hi Darkside, thats great to hear your comments on the cider, Annies my wife and its her distribution business and she will be really pleased to hear the positive feedback

I would like to wish your wife the very best in her new endevour. The Thai market has huge potential,if the price is reasonable. The imported brands are at present way overpriced. IMHP there is nothing more refreshing than a pint of chilled cider on a hot day. I look forward to having a few.

  12. When my buddies from the US came they stayed at the Swissotel and loved it, but it might be out of your budget range I thihnk they paid around 2500 thb. There are couple of other hotels next to Palazzo like The Emerald and Hip Hotel, but those are usually full of tourists. In my opinon I would stick with Fortune.

My wife is the manager of Ratchada resort and spa. It's opposite RCA, behind Fortune on soi 3. Give her a call (khun Joy) I think a comfortable room is about 7-8 hundred. 022459868

Last I checked, RCA wasn't anywhere near Fortune.

So sorry oh wise one. What I should have written was Ratchada soi 4.
