  1. All quite true. I have been going to Phuket for a long time more than you. I lived there for seven years.

    Phuket is "paradise lost".

    Sadly, very true.

I first started to holiday in patong 30 odd years ago. Then there were only about 8 bars total on soi bangla and nothing else. The beaches were pristine and the water was several shades of blue. The kangaroo bar was the first there I believe.and they were truly hospitable. Over the years I've seen the place and the people change for the worse. I spent six months of every year on that island up until 1989 when I decided enough was enough. Now I wouldn't go back even if it was a freeby,no way.

I really like living in this country, but beautiful places to visit are now very few and far between. Thailand is developing a reputation, unfortunately,it's not the one they would like.

  2. Pretty scary and it certainly focuses the mind, as the add says their have been improvements in the anti social attitude of drinking and driving, but there is still a long way to go, do people remember the old saying "have one for the road"?

Whilst I understand where you are coming from in suggesting that ads like this could be shown on the Walking Street screens, but surely the ads need to be targeted. I think the people on Walking Street have already made the decision not to drink and drive though by drinking a fair bit their judgement might be clouded when picking a Baht Bus for their journey home, where the driver might possibly be drunk.

Stay safe out there this festive season.

Very moving, very dramatic and very sobering. I have posted this anti-drink/drive campaign on facebook for all to see.

  3. Man Man ohh Man.

First let me address all the posters. Seriously guys you need to have yourself medically checked. Give OP a break all you angels that always plan everything, know everything with high paying jobs and millions stashed in the bank.

Yes i am aware of all the scams etc etc etc, but OP has just posted his story and his experience, so if his story is even 10% true have some compassion rather then attack the guy.

Not all people are perfect like all you bashers, some of us mortals, do not always think or plan out and mistakes do happen.

Now to OP, Sorry to hear about your situation and it must not be a nice place to be in. I think you have a few options,

    1. You can go to temple and ask for help

    2. You can hock your PC and few other things, but get it back once you been paid

    3. Go to government hospital, explain your situation and they might give you free medication.

I have a feeling i know what school you are speaking of, and you are 100% correct about teachers. I went there for 1 year to learn Thai, in that year we changed 9 teachers and it went from bad to worse. I had ex gogo bars girls teachers, girls who can not speak a word of English, girls who can not even read Thai.

With your experience, i think you can get a 20K-30K job as advertised in Bangkok Post, JobJob and everywhere else, while in the mean time look for work at a private school paying good salary.

I hope all works out for you and you will be back on your feet.

Put me in the "100% agree column" with you!!!

Is there any way that you can pm me with some names. Would very much like to pursue this seriously injurious and unfair matters about this particular school, also to see what else is going on behind the management. Thanks much.

Also, if you need temporary shelter to survive, pm me anytime. Will be glad to help anyway possible. Merry Christmas everyone.

mKawish: What a very decent thing to say and offer. You certainly have the Christmas spirit. There are good people here after all.

You've just given me a brainwave. I'm going to try my tv as a monitor. It's samsung also, so we'll see if the monitor is at fault. Thank you for your idea.

  6. Good people of Thai visa. My monitor is driving me crazy. flashing on and off every 5 seconds or so. I scan the computer every day with pc tools anti-spyware, and any viruses are wiped clean, but the problem still persists. Has anyone experienced this problem?

I would appreciate your advice on this hugely annoying problem. By the way, the monitor is a samsung 2233 and is less than a year old.

  7. Every ones idea of a good english breakfast is different, My recommendation is cook one youtself

    it would be

    2 English Pork Sausages

    2 English Back Bacon

    Baked Beans

    1 Hash Brown

Friend Bread ( not soggy )

    Tinned Tomatos

The English breakfast I helped introduce at my last place of work was as follows:

Cumberland sausages, scrambled eggs, streaky and back bacon,Stornoway black pudding, fried mushrooms, baked tomatoes, lamb's kidneys, fried bread, bubble and squeak , and baked beans. Now that IS an English breakfast ! (except for the stornoway bp, but it's simply the finest quality)

  8. Mr Toad...it used to be before it sold its soul, but thats a differnt story :D As for the Independence lot they have been going for years just go to St Just or some of the real villages it is in yiur face a bit similar to the Thais attitude to farangs really :D

As the old saying goes your not to be considered/excepted to be Cornish until you have lived there at least 30 years.

To the Op i do hope you get your bag back,i have a Warrens pasty bag for you if that would re-light your memories.

    :lo way the l:

I am Cornish, proud and have no problem about the points that you have made - certainly our soul has been sold (different story) :D I still have a house in a pretty rural area, although my real hone town has seen most of the locals driven out by the escalating prices.

As for St Just, even us Cornish folk make fun of those that live there, :)

Thnaks for the memory of a Warrens pasty bag, but I prefer Philps. :D

    Kernow rules !
