Tip: Head down to a private beach like Sheraton hotel or Cabbages & Condoms in Jomtien. The security there keeps the vendors at bay (pardon the pun...).

I feel only salespeople connected to aquatics or the sand should ply their wares on the beach road. Therefore, lottery sellers, prostitutes, or anything in between should be ridden of the beach with the threat of fines in order for the beach vendors to sell anything in their store exclusively, irrespective of price.
This clears the way to making the promenade more open, a prettier sight, and cleaner. I would pay more for less.
Leave it as is or clean it up?

Roundabouts are fine if everyone uses them properly, i guess a certain Canadian could not quite understand that this morning!!

There's a flyover on Sukhumvit and a flyover on 3rd road to Bali Hai Pier.
There are both exquisite and expensive.
Are we truly in need of flyovers at huge cost or would a few roundabouts solve the traffic problems?
First we need to teach Thai motorists and the police how they work but I use the Naklua roundabout every day. It's a hair raising experience merging in but I feel if there were a flyover, people would only speed up.
What do you think?

There are 2 in Central Festival Beach, 1 counter in Tuk Com, 2 on Sukhumvit, 1 in RGP.

The article refers to this as a speedboat but with 19 passengers, I'm more inclined to believe this was the alternative Ko Larn ferry that goes to the other side of Ko Larn (NOT the dock with the 7-11) at various hours. Maybe the reporters are using the word "speedboat" so as not to kill ferry traffic but I think based on the number of occupants, this was the alternative ferry. A similar looking ferry transports passengers from Si Racha to Ko Si Chang. I can hear my mother's words always wishing I would never go on those ferries because it's impossible that there are enough life preservers for the number of passengers.

I purposely only go to Soi Buakhow about ones every second month to get my hair cut.
Thanks for reminding me of another reason to lub the place! 50 baht for a haircut!

I too love Buakow. I lived at QD Suites near the southern end for about a year. I never liked the south end with the grimy market and the bikers. South Pats road needs a revamp.
The area around soi 19 and the central market is really fascinating. This is where the bulk of the girls live so it's really hopping day and night. I love the fact that it's mostly Thais doing their normal routine. I think living at R-Con hotel would be a trip. The people and shops down the first 4 streets parallel to Klang are worth a visit.
I also like the night market on Klang at the entrance of Buakow. Great value on groceries and in the soi 16 market, they make excellent fruit shakes and fried mussels. All the Thais know it.
Soi Diana corner (where you see Subway) revolts me. LK Metro is nauseating but my favorite Hole In The Wall restaurant is in that triangle so you might see me having a stroll there but that's the only reason. The behavior of many foreigners in this area concerns me.
Soi Lenkee off Buakow is really building up and becoming a force in its own right. Now with Jolly Friar and the wide street, I will see the area more often.

I've enjoyed some superb meals at The Village Chippy off 3rd road and recently The Jolly Friar on Soi Lengkee. You?

Just curious if you have an 80BT massage no extras how much do you tip?
I normaly pay 100BT and tip 50BT. But my favorite girl has gone and I am thinking of trying some new places,
Tip is based on merit. She works well (not lazy) and doesn't talk for 1-2 hour = tip. Does the opposite = nothing.

thanks, good place, but 500 per night =(

When us 2 single males drove up to Chaiyapoom to meet some girls from a dating website, more than a few extras showed up and we basically had 2 each. Maybe they were freeloading? We got our receipts though...

I was there tonight for 1 hour. Service was prompt and the pizza delicious. My friend ordered a sub which was about 80 baht less than my pizza but nowhere near as filling. There were 2 other foreigners dining too. I think it would be pretty cool if Thai families went there too.

I once heard 3000 but I can't believe there would be that many. Any guesses or known figures?
I also heard from a driver that it costs 400 baht per day to rent. Petrol is extra. The remainder profit hence the reason for it being a popular profession.

I noticed on Conrad's website that he did a show in Malaysia. Does anyone think people Malaysians would come to Phuket for his show? I wish him luck and hope this thread gets revived with new information once the show starts.

I bought an Ipod at Carrefour yesterday. They were very clear that I had 7 days for a full refund, 30 days for store credit, and 1 year warranty. All this is written in 2 places on a large board. This sealed the deal so that I could try the device and return it with no worries. I've returned a camera with no hassles. I also had a safe box malfunction after 11.5 months. Carrefour replaced it and delivered free a new one. Class.
