  1. Thanks for the reply ubonjoe, i have looked again at the Embassy website and i probably should have been more clear with my query, apologies. I would be applying for the 90 day Non O as someone on a state pension, obviously over 50, the requirement appears to be the bank statement showing pension/sufficient funds, no problem, residence confirmation and health insurance, inc Covid coverage, of no less than $100k for the duration of stay, so thats pretty definitive or has something changed more recently?

  2. Has it escaped everybody's attention that for its part, Thailand will not allow visitors from the UK, or indeed most other countries into Thailand, except in absolute exceptional, almost impossible to comply with, circumstances. Also regarding number of tests etc, under the current decree, it is illegal to seek information or confirmation from medical organisations, hospitals or any other body, as to the veracity or otherwise of the government issued figures.

Now i wonder why the UK will not allow Thai nationals to enter??

  3. Thanks Sheryl, that's exactly what i didn't want to hear, but unfortunately i fear you may be correct, there doesn't appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel, at least not in the short term. I know your're guess is probably as good as mine, but if you were asked to give an opinion on the timeframe for the relaxing of the quarantine requirements, what would it be?

  4. Thanks Luk Krueng, thats exactly what i meant ie, are there any Thai government restrictions on Thai citizens leaving the country, i know there are several airlines operating from Bkk, im curious if its safe to book a ticket for gf to Turkey.

  5. Hi Peter, many thanks for taking the time to respond. No doubt im confusing the terminology of the various categories and probably didn't explain correctly in my original post, confusion is just one of the downsides of getting on in yrs lol. Im not 100% sure of some elements of your reply, so i'd be grateful if you would pls bear with me while i clarify.

My current visa is a 12 mth Non O type based on state pension, issued by the Thai Embassy in London and with the usual requirement of leaving the country every 90 days. This visa (12 mths) expires on Apr 4th. My understanding is, if i leave Thailand and re-enter before the expiry date on Apr 4th, i will be stamped in again for a further 90 days, (effectively getting 15mths), at least that is what i understand from friends, would you agree? As it happens im booked for Ireland on Mar 11th, returning on 31st Mar. So pls clarify Peter, given that i will be stamped in for the additional 90 days, are those 90 days still considered to be part of a Non O category?

My understanding is that an application for a 12 mth extension of stay (based on retirement), is made while holding a current Non O type?

Hopefully i haven't added to the confusion, thanks for your patience. Henry

  6. Hi all and particular thanks to those who can guide me on this question. My current Non Imm O visa (based on Irish state pension) expires next mth, Apr 4th and as most of us know, the Thai authorities have discontinued this type of Visa. Im booked for travel back to Ireland on Mar 11th and return to Thailand on Mar 31st. Questions: 1/. Arriving back into LOS before expiry on Apr 4th, will i get an additional 90 days on this visa, and if so... 2/. Does this additional 90 days still retain its Non O status and if so 3/. Is it ok to apply for a retirement visa during this additional 90 days and if so 4/. At what stage during this 90 days should i apply?

Thanks to all for taking the time to read this. Henry

  7. Thanks jacko45k, appreciate the speedy reply. Hoping no further changes are in place by that time, but assuming not and for the sake of clarity, i can leave and return anytime before expiry on the 6th Apr and be granted the additional 90 days? Final question, the additional time will of course be single entry, is it possible to leave again and buy a re-entry permit at the airport during those 90 days? Grateful for the reply.

  8. Apologies if not directly related to previous topic but a query in the visa category. This question is set against the background of the termination of the Non O multiple entry visa, issued by London and based on State Pension. My current visa, as above, expires first wk of Apr next year and while i realize many further visa changes can happen between this and then, the answer would greatly help me make advance plans.

So, if i leave and return to Thailand before the expiry of the current visa (say 6th Apr) would i be granted an additional 90 days, as is the case now. I understand this is a crystal-ball type of question, but i would be grateful for more educated views/opinions than mine. Thanks in advance

  9. Thank you for taking the time to reply richard_smith237. Adding me to my partners yellow house book is an idea, though im not sure what other implications there may be of that action, assuming she went along with the suggestion. Yes you are correct in saying that Immigration at Chaengwattana refused on the basis of not doing a 90 day report. In my case i must leave the country every 90 days (which is not a bother) so they will not supply the letter, hence their suggestion of using the Embassy to obtain the letter. There may not be any alternative to complying with the Embassy's requirement...?? Thanks again for taking the time.

  10. I need to renew my 5yr driving licence (car) here in Bkk and am told i need a Cert of Residence, previously i supplied a rental agreement with a landlord, however we have since moved address. My partner has a mortgage on the house we live in so consequently all correspondence, utility bills etc are in her name, nothing in mine. In the absence of anything "official" in my name my embassy says my partner must supply copies of her own house book, translated into english. Apart from the cost, this seems to be an over the top requirement as its to be used for just a driving licence renewal application? Is there any way to bypass the embassy requirement and use some other document to satisfy the DL dept. Just for info, a long time ago my partner registered me with Immigration as living at this address, but they will not give me a proof of residence letter. I am on a Non O visa (state pension)

Thanks in advance of any replies.

  11. Indeed, Thailand is one of the countries covered by the Irish Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme

The categories of visas covered are short stay visit visas granted to persons seeking to leave to enter or remain in the UK except those seeking to enter as (i) a Visitor in Transit or (ii) a Visitor seeking to enter for the purpose of marriage or to enter a civil partnership. Long-term visitors to the UK, for example long-term student visas, persons seeking to join spouse or family reunification, are not encompassed.

In order to avail of the Programme you must have landed and gained lawful entry to the UK on foot of your current UK visa, prior to undertaking the journey to Ireland.

The programme runs until the end of October 2016, but may be extended.

This is an initiative of the Irish government, not the UK one. So I am not surprised that UKVI were unable to answer your question as it is nothing to do with them. Though why the INIS were unable to do so is a mystery!

As Upnotover says, UK visit visas are routinely multiple entry, unless there is a specific reason for restricting the number of entries. This will be indicated on the visa vignette by either a number, e.g. 1, specifying the number of entries or the word 'Mult' meaning the visa is valid for multiple entries.

Many thanks 7by7, that completes the jigsaw. Great to have people like you and Upnotover taking the time to answer queries.

  12. Hi all, wondering if anybody has info/experience of the Irish Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme applying to Thai nationals. I am an Irish national hoping to take my long-term Thai g/f to the UK on a 2 week holiday sometime in July/Aug. I had originally intended taking her to Ireland for the break, however im told if she gets a Tourist Visa to the UK, we can use that to travel to Ireland for a few days without the need for a separate Irish visa. This way we could visit relatives in both places. I have mailed Visa4u.fco but their reply mentioned everything except the question asked (above). Similarly [email protected] are not inclined to even answer. I would be grateful if anybody here on TV could give me a heads-up on this. Also, assuming we can travel to Ireland on the UK visa, are there any restrictions on returning from Ireland to the UK for departure to Bangkok on the single-entry UK visa?

    Appreciate any assistance.
