  1. The only gun fire should be the sound of the embassy staff, who write this rubbish, being shot for blatant lying and scaremongering (note to mods - just a joke!).

The site at the station had been there for months and was dismantled last Wednesday.

Brits have probably the most expensive consular service of any nationality living here, but a Bangkok embassy staff that is incompetent and lazy. For example, it takes them 10 days to issue a tourist visa and the applicant must travel to Bangkok to make the application - ridiculous. They will cite security concerns - security concerns my bum, they are just highly inefficient at their job.

    PS

The women at the consulate in CM do a grand job but they are only admin staff following the bs of Bangkok.

I agree what a load of rubbish the embassy put out ,do they not travel round Chiang Mai and see for them selves what it is like.

  2. I live here ....... but if I didn't have a Thai wife, I would be gone.

Don't come, not worth risking your life.

This could get very nasty, very fast.

At the moment it's just buildings being burnt.

You must be in bangkok to quote all that .

  3. Those closed you are talking about are only for Bangkok nothing has been said about Chiang Mai. Go out and see. I'm going o immigration later, will post.

I was in Chiang Mai 10 am no banks open but atms working

  4. From the replies to my question, Chiang Mai seems like a wonderful place with friendly people.

I would just like to point out that Chiang Mai has its fair share of Thais who don't like foreigners. Almost every time I go out on my motorbike I get some asshol_e, usually going the other way, say something like "Go!" or "awk!" (out) or "bpai!" (go). A few of them are women. Happens in malls sometimes too. They think they can say what they like to you in Thai without you understanding, especially as it is usually muttered under their breath so that it's not obvious.

Unlike most places in Thailand, most people here have had some contact with foreigners and some have surely had negative experiences. Unfortunately all foreigners are then stereotyped.

Some of the farangs that i see in Chiang Mai i would not want to encounter in my own country .I dont blame the thais at all .We do not have any problems with the thai people we come into contact with.
