  1. Hi Guys

I am going through hel_l with my K1 visa in the US, apply for my girlfriend back in April everything went pretty fast got the approval she got package 3 did everything than pack package 4 came with the interview date. One week after she got the interview date she received a call from the American Embassy in Bangkok saying the interview is cancled.

The application was recalled back to the US because they forgot to apply a new law call "International Marriage Broker Regulation Act" to my application. Since then, which was back in May, no news call a few time but no one have any updated information on the case.

I was so happy when we got the date she would of been here already, the interview was for early June, now I just wait. I can get an definitive answer from anyone on the US side I hate the wait it's driving me crazy.

Is anyone on this board from the US is going through the same thing I am going through now?

  2. Hi Guys

Thank you to Kadkapow, Bkk90210, Mighty Mouse, Ronz28, Misplaced, Tripxcore, Mogoso and KhunPadThai for taking the time to share their experience with me I am greatfull this is why I love this board.

This is the type of encouragement I am looking for and only a person who has been through it can understand what I am about to go through.

From what I have read from all of you is the better the English the better the choice for a job I understand that more than you know being an immigrant myself. 22 years ago it was my first time also into the big city of New York I should be able to recall my first years and guide her.

Thank you very much and please keep them these words of encouragement coming.

  3. Hi All

I am seriousely considering bringing my Thai girlfriend to the USA (New York) on a K1 visa my question is once she is in the US what kind of job she would mostlikely find (no university degree), how should I prepare for her coming, how do I prepare her for life in the US, should I send her to school and for what, what are the problem would we mostlikely face, any advantages of bringing her instead of moving to Thailand to be with her?

What have your experience have been good or bad from getting the visa to life in the US? did you get a lawer in Thailand or the US to help with the procedures?

I would really like to hear the experiences of people who have brought their TGF here in the US and marry her.

    Thank you .

  6. I will be in Phuket for six or seven days in July '05 my way of helping a little, I was in Pattaya with plan to go to Phuket when the tsunami hit. I want to go mostly to find out what happen to a few people I know at some of the hotels that I have stayed, a girl who work at Hageen Dasz, the ladeis on the beach who gave me wonderful foot massage bring me food and even gave a gift last visit, the girls at the travel agency who let me borrow her bike first time she met me etc.

I feel bad for the guy who own the Subway shop it could of been me, came close a year ago to buy and open a franchise in Patong, I have to stop by there for a sandwich. The hotel can sure drop their price a little more, the hotel (Patong Bay Garden) I use to stay went upscale you would think they would send me a post card offering me a discount for staying there over and over in the past, no. I am still waiting to see add for Phuket on TV in New York, it would be expensive but the goverment could issue discount vourcher for hotel in the areas that were afected, they should know name and address of those of us who come over and over.

I am going anyway to spend some money so if you guys know some good place I should visit, hotel, shop, bars any business that you like for me to throw some patronage while I am there let me know.

  7. I am Thai.  I stayed in my apartment.  I am still alive!  I know that most farangs are excited for Songkran for the first time.  I have seen it since I was born and I am sorry to tell you this: it sucks!  Things are getting nastier every year and I am sick of it.  Drunk, death, serious injuries, road accidents, you name it.  The real, original Songkran that you will never experience is long gone.

    Golf

I totally agree with you Golf I can stand new year in the west but I would give me my left arm to experience Thai new year at least for a few years. I guess there is no way I can ever experience the way songkran use to be celebrated it would be nice to if someone could tell me how it use to be celebrated in the sixties for example.

I have been to thailand a lot but never during Thai new year my company does most of their business during January and May, how sad for me.

  8. One of the best thing of being black is never have to do a comb over, shave head is in at least states side I don't know how it's view else where but they love mine in Thailand. I don't need things like shampoo, combs and i never have to visit a bober shop, I was shaving my head way before I started to loose it.

I can understand though why some man with beautiful hair think life is over when they start loosing it, for us there is not much to do with it anyway.

  9. First time for me was in 2002 (yes I am still kicking myself for waiting for so long) and now I am hook, since then I have been coming to LOS twice a year with side trip to Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar. For someone living in the US is hard to come that often because US comapny are very very cheap on vacation days, after 15 years with the same company I only get 3 weeks a year.

I have been taking Thai lesson since last year with a great private teacher from Thailand in the hope that one days I will retire there or open a business which ever come first.

I am Jealous of all you guy and girls living there already.

  10. To all the expats or frequent visitor of Pattaya I envy you with joy, you lucky bastards.

I went to Pattaya the day the Tsunami hit I was planning to stay for two nights before going to Phuket where I usually go when in Thailand or in Asia to rest when the worst tragedy during my life time took place so I deceide to stay. The place grew on me so much that I am now looking for a business to buy there with Phuket as my second choice, last time I was there I thought that there was nothing else to see beside what is on first and second road. This time since I had time I wanted to see more of the place and it was a good decision because I like what I saw beside it is very cheap compare to Phuket. I never saw Jiomtien before but this time I went for an afternoon and was back at least three or four times, even thought it was high season the place was quite which is more my speed.

I can imagine how nice it most be if you drive an hour past Pattaya I also like the fact that it is less than 3 hours away from bangkok not mention the baht bus. I thought the receptionist at the hotel was playing a trick on me when she told me the price for the bus, I thought for sure the driver was going to run after me after I drop the 10 baht coin in his hand. I realise even thought I am not too big on drinking I really like the beer bars better than the go-go bar, the girls are plentiful, beautiful and sweet.

To everyone who make Pattaya their home I envy you, whish I was there now, it's -5 degree Centigrade right now in New York. I would welcome any suggestion for my next trip to Pattaya maybe there were things I did not even get to do or see, ohhh I will be back.

  11. Sorry I did not mention the currency, it is us dollars. I understand that is best to be there and wait for the right opportunities but I would like to know what to look for before so I don't spend a year looking at a ton of business.

I am not coming to Thailand to make a fortune I can always stay in the USA for that work two jobs and died of a heart attack six month after retirering. I need something that can give enough money to live in the LOS travel in the region, pay for my place save a little money for a rainy day or two and have fun on the weekend and maybe a trip back home every two years or so. Am crazy to think that i could find something in the price range of $100k to $150k and generate enough income to do that?

  12. What kind of businesses would I be able to afford with 100k to 150k cash, I am planning on moving to LOS in the next couple of years. I am mostly interested in owning and running a small appartment complex (can farang own such business) or buy into a franchise system since I have never run a business before.

What are my options? Bangkok is not my top choice of location but I understanding it may be a better choice depends on which venue I choose.

    Any comments are welcome
