    cheers.. :o

  2. yep. witches. wednesday. i will be there from 5pm.

    Hi Donna,

I'd like to meet up with you as I live in Bangkok... :D

Just want to clarify, is that Witches Tavern in Thonglo? as there's a post earlier mentioning Ruam Rudee?!?!

    P.S

MiG, are you free too? good time to meet up before we start travelling... :o

  3. Yeah, service in Thailand is a funny thing. When I first got back to the states, I remember walking through stores with a smile, because no one was following me around anymore; I NEVER grew accustomed to that in LOS. Now, I don't even think about browsing and looking with no problem for hours on end, but I could never forget about it in LOS - there was always some kind of sales pressure.

I have to tell you, good service is a PROFESSION, and it is a pleasure to be waited on by professionals.

That said, when the service was good in LOS, it was more like friends or family. I still miss the little crew that worked my regular Starbucks - they were so incredibly sweet! I missed them for weeks after returning. Let me tell you, the Starbucks staff here doesn't even come close.

Hey kat! how are you sweetie? :D

This I would have to agree.. as I usually go to the same 2 Starbucks branches within Thonglor- I get excellent service, sometimes I don't even have to say anything and they know exactly what I want! I get surprise when in some days I see the same staff down at silom and ofcourse get the same excellent treatment-- two thumbs up! :D

so kat-- when are you coming down to LOS for a coffee with us again!? miss you :o

  4. I believe Thailand is one of the most service oriented countries in the world. When shopping I'm usually followed by one or two sales girls eager to help.

I can't stand it when they do that.

Neither can I, it's just sooo annoying!

So I make it clear to them that I will call them if they are needed...

Another thing, calling a customer service for inquiries or complaints and being passed on to different people and have to explain yourself all over again, yet still have no clue on what you're talking about! grrr this just get into my nerves... i just demand to speak to the manager, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesnt!

    chill!! :o

  5. If you're choosy about fabrics, you can come and check out www.vc-fabric.com. Showroom located as Sukhimvit soi 71 end of Prakanong.

Although we do not provide the uphlolstering services, we can recommend you some from our own customers.

    cheers! :o

  6. I have tried to keep the flowers that my boyfriend has sent me on several occasions. Personally, I keep them as one reminder of his presence (long distance relationship) and in a way has sentimental value to me :o

However, I can only keep them for as long as they dont stink.. sadly i have thrown out most of them (a year old) and just have one standing one (sent on V'day this year).. I still keep the ribbons (if any) and card. Personally I like them and wished I didn't have to throw them out :D

I know my other girl friends (foreign and Thai) do the same thing, perhaps its a female thing!???

  7. Maybe not - however they are going to have to check dates closely when you make the next report and will see that you did not leave until after your reporting date and could say you failed to report. Although you are normally allowed up to seven days to report do not believe they will allow that period for a non report. I would be safe and report up to a week early rather than risk it.

    Thanks lopburi! :o

I will prolly pay a vist to suan plu immigration to be safe and get my re-entry permit as well...

    cheers. :D

  8. I got my hair done (hair rebonding) five months to ago to a local salon recommended by a Thai friend. I was very pleased with the results and only annoyed that couldn't wash it for 3 days after I got it done. It did make my hair quite dry from time to time, but with the help of some hair products from Shisheido Senscience (sp?) --it was okay... I could (and did) tie my hair up a week later after rebonding and was surprised with the results-- I could just let it down with minimal brushing -back to its orginial straight way! :D

Lucky me, I have more manaegable hair now :D [not sure how long it will last?!?]

Although, some people I know just made their hair very dry and brittle (looks like a dust broom :o ) I guess it will depend on how your hair will react to the chemicals..

    Good luck PlainJane!

  9. my bf gets his haircut everytime he's in bangkok and has tried the following salons (with his comments):

    -Shisheido Emporium - (ok)

-Bangkok Salon at Emporium - (ok)

-Shisheido at Siam Paragon with stylist "Joe" - (best) -Personally, I and my (western)girl friends love him too, he does the best haircut IMO and speaks perfect

    English.

-Chalachol at Thonglo - (not satisfied and stylist speak fair English only)

  10. Not new, but i recommend 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' by Mark Haddon.

Any synopsis i try to give wouldnt do this book justice. You see through the eyes of an autistic boy who is on a mission to find out who killed a dog. It becomes a tale of self-discovery as he finds out things about himself, his family and the world around him. His perspective of life is so unique that its surreal experiencing his thoughts and reactions to things. Somewhat sad and funny.

    really good thread!

BTW, eek I am reading that book right now and so far enjoying it :o Next will be Bukowski..

I'd recommend, The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood... i'm overwhlemed by this book--novel within a novel, richly detailed mutligenerational family saga... a bit tragic but somehow she manages to make it lovely... well written!

  11. What version of Itunes are you using?

    What is your OS?

did you install it your self or was it downloaded through the Apple software updater?

The version I used (and tried to delete) is v.6 , installed from CD

    OS is Windows XP.

Now I want to website the new itunes from the webiste but failed and failed... :o

v8tfcorty: where can i get that advanced uninstaller???

  12. Hi,

I have experienced some problems with my Itunes program and had to delete/uninstall it. Upon re-installing a new one, it wont fully install (from CD) or download. I guess that the old Itunes hasn't been fully removed. So I checked in the Add/Remove Programs and Itunes was still there but cannot be opened nor remove.

Can anyone help on what to do? Is there some other way to completely remove it?

((sorry, i'm not so good with this stuff))

Will appreciate any helpful replies :o

  13. nothing too special on the weekend...

as usual work on saturday, then had a nice big dinner in Coyote with lots of chilled margaritas then ended up at silom soi 4.

Malate -- night clubs and gay district....

Greenhills? -- this is not greenbelt is it? how to get there and how far away is it?

Mall of Asia --someone mentioned this as being the handicraft centre? -- directions please :D

turns out I 'might' have one day free during the week...but it will only be 1 day...so cant go too far out of makati...any suggestion?

thanks again people :D Im kinda not looking forward to the week...mainly cos no friends there :o so all ideas from you are much much appreciated...will safe me from some lonely evenings I hope :bah:

    Hi MiG!

I have been reading this thread, but didnt really have time to reply until now... So when are you going to Manila??

I haven't been back to Phils for the last 3 years... but last time I was there I really enjoyed it. Ofcourse its my home :D

Few places you should check out...

-Makati --so many places to go there.. shopping malls: greenbelt, ayala avenue, loads of restaurants, bars and disco...

-SM Megamall in Ortigas, Mandaluyong has a quite a big selection of handicrafts (I'm sure you can also find them in makati but just can't remember the name)

-Libis and Tomas Morato in Quezon City - streets full of new restaurants, bars and discos with some small shops (Highly recommended!!!) Nightlife is great... Bars/clubs open till 4 or 5 am... :D

-Greenhills is close to Quezon City not the same as greenbelt - malls with either fake or real brands

-Mall of Asia in Magallanes - supposedly really really big although I havent been there.

Malate is okay, but that's in downtown Manila and personally I don't prefer to go there--place where I feel quite unsafe...

It is true that there are so many malls in the city and not much of green or anything else.. But there are some nearby provinces that you can go to.. I recommend Tagaytay where you can see the Taal Volcano (volcano in the middle of the lake) and nice scenery.. Its about 1-2 hours drive from Manila.

Have fun... I hope I can go with you and show you places (or atleast try)...

    Cheers...

  15. For Buffet: I recommend Rain Tree Cafe at Hotel Plaza Athenee on Wireless Road.

Biscotti At the Four Seasons Hotel: great Italian food and good wine. I took my bf here for his birthday and they even prepared a birthday cake for him..

Both places are chilled out and casual with nice atmosphere

    Have fun..

  16. Hi,

I am looking for a private German teacher around Sukhumvit (Promphong-Thonglo) to teach me once or twice a week.

Please pm me your available days and times, fee per hour and experience in this field. I would prefer evenings after work in a cafe or Sunday afternoons.

    Cheers,

    hUsh

  17. We took the taxi once from Bangkok to Pattaya... (we got off the bus that was going there because it stopped at every bus stop picking up passengers and we were so annoyed by this... still in bangkok after one hour) Anyhow, back to the OP... We got off somewhere near central Bang-na and just hailed one of the taxis passing by. We got for 900 Baht plus tollway fees. Very nice driver and we got to pattaya in an hour and a half :D

I'm not sure how much it would cost if taking it from downtown like Sukhumvit... also wondering as we're planning a trip to Pattaya again soon :o

  18. you should try www.hoteltravel.com, www.wotif.com, www.phuket.com, www.latestays.com to start with. they will give you good prices.

i work in a hotel, but we are a bit higher than your price range. the above website portals have good deals.

How's the weather there? Is it still worth going during the low season?

  19. Hi all!

I have never been to Krabi and looking into going there (on the 3rd week of May) for a short trip as my bf will be in town for a couple days. How's the weather there? Does it rain the whole day? Also, how's the diving scene? Can anyone recommend a few places to go diving?

We're looking at staying at Sheraton Krabi, any comments on the hotel and the beach?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,

    hUsh :o
