  1. Once you have the card you have to file the 90/91 form every year by March 31!!!

    If you change address make sure to get a new card because this form will be mailed to the address stated on the card.

    Are there any benefits, like smoother visa extension, easier visa application... ?? :o

    In my current and past jobs with government schools nobody ever bothered to hand me a card or even talk about it. (But yes, correct taxes were deducted from my salary.) :D

  2. I hope every teacher knows that being legit means you also get free health care in Thailand- even a pension! And soon, unemployment insurance!... :o

    Really? As a foreigner? How many years does one have to work to be eligible for the government pension?

  3. Also, it is traditional for guests to bring cash gifts for the wedding couple in envelopes - this will cover most of the costs of the wedding reception...

    Just curious to know, as my wedding will be very expensive (hundreds of Thai guests who I don't know...), does it make a difference as for the guests' cash gifts whether the groom is Thai or 'farang'?? :o

  4. Recent discussion is that tourists like Thailand 'tuu mut', going on 15 minute border runs on and of every month, or pestering busy Thai embassy employees in neighbouring Asian countries with requests for multiple tourist visas. :o

    Well then, how much time do you spend in LOS?

  5. Well just a quick q...what happens if gansters ask for Protection money from My internet shop???what should i do ??? or Police man comming up and ask for bribe because there is to many people in my cafe..and he says that its illegal gathering....can i open my cafe 24 hours ???

    If not they will treathen my shops...

    Who should i report to ?? Do i have any protection from the goverment???

    I need to know thank you

    That is just one of the reasons why I would never ever invest my hard-earned money in Thailand!

  6. Ride any transport in BKK in modest dress, the women will do everything possible not to sit next to you no matter how dashing you are -the case is made.

    True. :o

    OK, the reason for my question was, that she is one of my employers, so I see her almost every day.

    I guess, that I did it rather the 'Thai way', seeing her again after the incident...

    Smiling less than usual, I asked her for the pay, which I actually hadn't expected.

    (I did some job for the school, not caring much about the money, but about my students.)

    So, the school basically could have had my services for free, but because of the 'dog's mouth' of the manager they had to pay me 600 baht (which I gave right away to the 'missus' as compensation...) :D

  7. Thanks a lot for the valuable information! :o

    As for me, yes, I also was worried about 'losing' my ledger balance (1,100 baht) from my dormant bank account, so I withdrew it at another province's bank branch, costing me 30 baht.

    I hope, though, that my account in Bangkok won't be closed, as I would like to keep it. (I have the mentioned balance of 0 baht now, though, or should I say 0.08 baht?)

  8. You should tell her that as a person of relative knowledge and authority, it is amazing to see such racial comments and prejudices. Such narrowmindedness      ( kit kaep kaep) is what keeps Thailand a third world country.

    Actually, she's now the manager and also (Thai) English teacher of a well-known language school... :o

    She frequently travels to Malaysia and even has a relationship with a man from Malaysia... :D

  9. In 2003 I was one of 10,000.000.

    10,000,000 foreigners, really??

    Let's do the count:

    1,000,000 Burmese slave workers (minimum pay, but free dorm bed in LOS)

    about 1,000,000 Cambodians who fled Pol Pot or poverty;

    about 500,000 Laos ethnic minorities, who wait for their plane ticket to California;

    talking of Burma: 500,000 odd Karen, Shan, etc.;

    from China: 6,000,000 expats;

    about 200,000 Indians, Pakistanis, Nigerians..., who forgot to buy a return ticket;

    about 300,000 Malaysians, Singaporeans... from other Asian countries;

    400,000 Brits, who retired due to the high cost of buying a home back in England;

    about 100,000 foreigners from other Western countries

    That's 10,000,000, alright! :o

  10. I am pissed off, that a former teacher of my fiancee did complain to her 'that she's living together with a farang' (and therefore no good girl...) :D

    My girlfriend is not a bargirl (but a student), so this comment bothered her very much, and she was crying...

    Usually I would kick the ass of everybody, who does like this woman did with my fiancee... :o

    But in this case I can't. But still I want to tell her in a polite (Thai) way that she is an *sshole...

    So, what is a good way to do it? How would you guys do it? :D

  11. ...thinking they can have a "easy life", spending their pension on hookers and thinking they are something special.

    We in Switzerland just voted them OUT...

    Hahahahahahaha... don't tell me that Switzerland is, or has ever been the chosen expat home of overseas retirees, spending their pensions on Swiss hookers... :D

    considereing the amount of swiss retirees in thailand, i would think it is the opposite :D

    Yeah, after too many old Swiss cows, they probably are keen to find out about the young Thai chickens... :o

  12. Then 2kUSD might be somewhat high.

    But then again, having planned for a budget above what you're actually spending most of us are so very upwardly flexible... :D

    As a first timer to Thailand I would bring more money (credit cards/travelers checks, some cash), rather tan too little.

    Depending on your lodging-, travel-, dining- and entertainment needs, you might end up spending anywhere between 500 and 3000 USDs per person and month... :o
