Sounds about right. A 100 cu.m pool is a big installation. A lot of concrete a lot of tiling and 0.15 million baht of equipment (which is more expensive than falangland, due to import duties).
Go cheap in haste, repent at leisure. There will be plenty come on here (particularly if a moderator MOVES IT TO THE SWIMMING POOL FORUM)* who will nay-
say me. Find a few who have said a few years ago that they built their sizeable pool for 400k, PM them and see if they are still happy. Loads of grotty pools in Thailand inherited by house renters / s/h home buyers. Who built those?
Essential you use a builder whose work you can verify by talking to their owner.
* well done CharlieH you beat me to it. It switched when I pressed 'post'
Just to say I built my pool using our house builders, best 4 inch thick tiles, salt, weber grouting, only 1.20 meters deep, 6 years old now still looks very good, used in our small resort 700 k including 2 meter walk around, with small pump house, he charged 200 k labour.

Yes you can, I used proof of UK pension, SCBank, only 2,000000 baht but our property was worth 10,000000 at the time, since payed back happy about that, SCB can be farang friendly.

I can,t be the only one to have a good Thai Wife we have been together nearly thirty years now, we have a 21 year old Daughter who has a good job in Bangkok 35 to 50,000 baht per month with prospects, my wife was a poor simple Issan girl working in a hotel just 2000 bant per month, our story we did not start with to much just 5000 UK pounds, I new about how to earn money, but I lost just about every thing in the big recession back in the 80s, perhaps it was easier back then to survive back then in Thailand, but we did better than that we slowly went forward now my lovely kind very kind wife is considered comfortable by most and is a respected Lady, I know it sounds a bit corny but you have to start with a good girl, after about six month's of meeting her I was a bit skint she gave me all of her savings 10,000 baht, it has been a long haul but now she owns her own resort outright, ( she jokes that she made a wise investment ) if we done it you sure can as you can see I am not that Educated but triers we where, as for bar girls a few of my friends where lucky some extremely lucky but sorry yo say not many. If you need advice ask LA

Cheers for the info, i think maybe some of you have missed the point. The budget was based on worst case scenario. In the UK now i'm making £75 a day and have been told that the work will remain available for the next few years. Even if it doesn't there are other clients out there. What i was essentially asking was, is the budget set out realistic? Obviously a lot of you think i might struggle on that which is fine, thats good to know and i will adjust the budget accordingly. Like mentioned, I have ample savings but i wouldnt want to dip into them if necessary as every 60 days i'll be flying to Phils for a week or two of very hard partying.
When i'm in Chiang Mai I will be concentrating on work and having a good blow out at the weekend, Thats enough for me as i'll be looking forward to a fortnight in Phils every couple of months.
Again, thanks for the input, i'm happy that 44,000 baht seems to be realistic if a bit tight, it assures me that what i will probably earn will be ample.
Cheers
stay at home in the uk you are a dreamer no chance

I have lived in Thailand more than 25 years never been coned, so this is my tip today if you use an ATM card only keep enough cash in your ATM account that you can afford to lose lets say 20,000 baht it won,t be nice to lose but it proberly won,t hurt to much, my friend just lost 1.2000 baht, just have 2 bank accs only 1 ATM Card it is that easy enjoy Thailand

I think that you can, because we used my UK pension to help get our loan from SCB to build a small house, it was easy that was the second time since repaid both.

Good luck with your new pool, I have had a few pools built in Thailand all ok but one, the pool that Navinda pools built lost huge amount of water every Day it cost us 250000 baht to sort out the problem it had not been water proofed with seeka a must still angry L A
-
I used navinda pools in phuket to build a 10 x 5 meter pool in bad choice, it leeked bad the water was leeking through the walls, who ever you use make sure the the use a good sealer it will cost an extra 10,000 baht but well worth it we had to take all the tiles of seal the pool and re tile it at my cost. this time I built my own pool 12 x6 meter only 1.3 meters deep just paid for the labour I used much beter tiles 12mill re bar all finished with 1.5 hp (usa ) salt water chl 2 meter sadd wash all round the pool total cost 620,000 baht working 2 years already no leeks no problems he was just the builder who built my house I all so put in 9 one deep meter footings all tied to the cage, but I was there every day as site agent

I took a chance, after talking to Rob at Sausage King in Chang Mai, he made all the right noises so I gave him an order of, bacon, pies, burgers, indian food, indian filled pies and WOW! I have orderd some more already. I live in Prachuab Khirkhan, it took just over two Days to arrive still frozen. I don't know Rob personaly and i have no avid interest in the company but I wish him all the best of luck supplying quality foods. He told me his food is Marks & Spencer's quality and now i believe him. DELICIOUS.
Here is his website, take a look http://www.sausageking1.com/
