I'm pretty happy with Asus, on my second one now, first one lasted 3 years, and 'one large bintang beer' did the mother board in, otherwise great and good value.

Far more effective and economical to use 'smart mines' on the border ones you can turn off and on, should have been done on the US/Mexico border long ago, but so many profit from the labor (soon votes) from illegal aliens that it would never happen.

Yes, with regards to dual citizenship, my lawyers tell me it's quite possible. My wife is a Thai National and resident of the USA, but I have been told she can enventually hold a passport (dual citizenship) for both countries.

Thank you for your request for information regarding visas for Thailand. The mutual funds/investments can be used in lieu of a bank account with 800,000 baht.
All very confusing at times, especially for us newer guys to the forum, so I posed this question to the Thai Consulate in LA.
Essentialy what I was asking is can't we just show assetts of 800,000 in a bank account or investment fund, not neccesarily in Thailand?

Responding to JT's Post, there are alot of uncertainties with this new Obamacare plan, sure they can't refuse 'Pre existing conditions' but the cost of insurance is going to sky rocket, even the company I work for now in Califorina is downgrading their policy and upping the cost, making it so it's the same as just going out on 'E-insurance' and buying it there. No free ride anywhere anymore....

I have been in some countries in the world where you had to weigh the cost of carrying your passport and getting pick-pocketed or to leave in in your dodgy hotel room without a safe and risk the chance of a break in, all depends where you are at, and you must weigh the risk.

I was a bit worried getting married as I have been married before and have assets I want to protect from Condo to stock and bonds things I accumulated before meeting her. I found a good law firm in Bangkok and used two American Lawyers (I'm from California) and did an 18 page pre-nup. Then the law states I had to hire a lawyer for her and have the pre-nup translated and he needed to understand the whole thing. At least I can sleep better at night now.

My wife usually trys to rescue me from her family and village after about a week in Isaan, she realizes we are 'pissing' off our money at rate faster than anywhere and she'd rather have that money. I don't mind spending a bit, but the Human ATM factor gets old.

If what the author of this article said did come true,
If the dollar, euro and yen were to crash it would not just be a Thai problem ....The result world wide would be so catastrophic, resulting in the collapse of all currencies, to think that the Yuan would be a safe haven, is the just the author's dream.

I received my 1 one License back in June of 2011, and will be going back on May 14th to get my 5 year. I use the office off of Soi 99.
Everything here sounds right, photos are taken their, and will probably need a medical certificate again.
My issue is the Residency form, Thai Immigration would not give me one last time, (my wife is Thai but I don't live Thailand long enough to get anything more than a tourist visa). So I had to visit the US Embassy and get the residency form from them. I think it was $ 50 or so, do all Embassies charge this fee (other nationalities)?. Just trying to figure out how to get of out this fee.

I am curious once the visa (60 day is granted) how many days or months do you have before you must enter? I will not be entering immediately so need to know.
My experience today at Indonesian embassy in BKK.
Its right next to Pantip Plaza so its easy to find. Facing Pantip turn right and walk 50m. Big obvious embassy thing. Push the metal door and wander in.
For 60 day tourist visa:
$45US dollars. Must be dollars but visa office will direct you to a shop down the street that will change baht for you (rate was 32.80). The shop opens at 9.00. Its a gem shop next to 'first hotel' & has a money exchange sign outside. Forget name Ploenget Charoen or some such.
2 passport pictures
proof of travel in AND out of Indonesia. I used airasia itinery. They note date, flight & booking reference. Do not think there is any way round this. Agree with earlier posts about just booking the cheapest Air Asia flight out and not using it (AirAsia Aceh-KL = 1300bt)
Visa takes two days; drop off 9.00 - 12.00 ; pick up between 14.00 and 15.00
No queue, helpful staff and a very easy service. In and out in about five minutes.
Did not ask about in-country extension - will do so if I remember on thursaday and post here.
Enjoy Indonesia

I think there's a message in there somewhere - duh, ummm, oh yeah, here it is: DON'T FIRE GUNS IN PUBLIC!
Actually, the message is, don't let the public own guns.
So then only the 'outlaws' have guns, huh, makes alot of sense. Been shooting since the age of 6, and I have 'good gun control' believe me!

Sorry guys, I know this must be some where in the forum, but having trouble searching for it. Will be newly married next month in Thailand, I won't be here long as I have to go back to the states to work and will return in the spring time.
Questions 1: What is the best type of visa to have as I wont be in the country for more that 90 days at a time (multiply entry)
Questions 2: I work in the scuba instructor industry, thinking about attaining a work permit when I return in spring, this sounds like a pain, but is it easier
for a person who is married to a Thai National to attain a work permit, any thoughts would be great.
Many thanks and maybe guide me through the forum!

I would pay 500 THB in a 'heart beat' as the US Embassy wants $ 50, heck I marry a Thai and pay thousand's to the 'Obama scam your a_ _' government and then come back to Thailand and have to pay more, you can't win I guess.
