  1. From the Thaivisa link: http://www.thaivisa.com/extensionsextension-based-on-support-of-a-child.html

It appears that from the information that one cannot get an extension based on support of a Thai child, but if 50 years old or older, one can get an extension based on Thai child supporting parent. Indeed, I know of one Farang in Korat who has been getting his extension this way for several years.

That ThaiVisa link is just ridiculous bullshit, I have a daughter born after October 2006 and no wife. Since her birth I applied for extension of visa based on father supporting child and so I did for the 6th time just last month in BKK.

The fact that this idiocy is reported by ThaiVisa downgrades the respectability of this website. I suggest the moderator of this forum to investigate and correct this misleading information.

  2. And what are supposed to be the REAL advantages of having a residence permit in Thailand (compared to a 1 year extension)? I can see just a sure loss of more than 100,000 baht.....

    No need for 90-day reporting.

Just appear in person at your local police station with a new photograph every five years (plus yearly re-entry from immigration if traveling abroad).

This is the only advantage in exchange of 100,000 baht

Use the Thai national lines at the airport.

Oh yes, this is definitively a big advantage....

Practically, it is the only real stepping stone to full nationality in most case (which comes with a host of other advantages).

Not even if they pay 1,000,000 baht to me.

    No visa runs.

1 year extension doesn't require any visa run as well

No need to keep a particular sum of money in your bank account for retirement visa.

I need the money in the bank if I want to live....anyway....

No need to have a job or Thai spouse for B or O visas.

I have a Thai spouse already.

No need to worry about a possible crackdown on ED visas or multiple tourist visa holders.

No worry for crackdown on foreigners legally married with Thai.

If you're working, you don't have to leave the country if you lose your job.

Work permit approval is virtually automatic.

If you lose your job you can stay as a retired person if over 50, if not you better find another job regardless of your living place; if you don't need to work then why the hell you should need a residence permit?

Your status can only be revoked by someone at Minister level, for doing something really obtuse or criminal.

It IS permanent, as long as you don't do something obtuse or criminal or stay out of the country for more than a year at a time.

As well as a 1 year extension

Worth it or not? Up to you.

Therefore you pay 100,000 baht to save 200/300 baht a year to send the form by registered mail every 3rd month.

    Good deal indeed.....

  3. Just when the tourist numbers were starting to come back. Wondering how Thailand will prepare for this pandemic. Will Yingluck tell the Thai people to start killing off birds for the sake of tourist? or will this Novice leader step up with emergency funds needed to create an environment in the poultry industry that the mutant virus has less chance of wanting to thrive. The word is out from the UN but that does not mean the rural (voting base) for the (Pardon Thaskin Party) has been updated to this new mutant strain of an old nemesis.

Or maybe to kill the tourists for the sake of the birds?

  4. Unfortunately the thumbnailed report is completely wrong!

I have the official numbers from CPAll (7Eleven).

First of all you get 54% of the gross margin (which is 20%, not 27%). Second, the op.exp. are about 140-150 KBaht. Therefore the net profit (with 1,500,000 monthly revenues) are about 15,000 baht only!

Fortunately an average 7Eleven has revenues around 2-2,5 MBaht. Therefore the net profit can be between 70 and 120 KBaht a month.

  5. Interesting point....explain it to the Japanese people who are dealing with radioactive water and let me know whether they agree with you......:jap:

Distillation will not remove Radioactive Isotopes from water.

    So your point is???

    Patrick

read up on reverse osmosis before posting false information, thank you

Read up - and produce, with Sources (not cartoon like websites) – reliable, scientifically PROVEN Data - which validates your assertion that Reverse Osmosis, will remove Radioactive Isotopes and render previously irradiated water drinkable for human consumption.

    Patrick

Whoops - almost forgot my manners!

    "Thank you."

    Patrick

sure, as soon as you "produce, with Sources (not cartoon like websites) – reliable, scientifically PROVEN Data - which validates that" whatever water you drink is safe!

  6. I distill my own... Does not get any better....

This is the only realistic statement of this thread. Reverse osmosis is the only safe existing water treatment. Do not trust me. Deeply search.

    Any more words not needed.

Distilled water is not "real" water. Yes it may be pure, but many of the good things in water ( e.g. minerals, oxygenation and most importantly, flavour and sweetness) are also filtered out. Exposure to minute amounts of some bacteria can actually be beneficial for our immune systems. Great tasting water usually means that you drink more of it; which is healthy. Coffee and tea also tastes better and fresher when made with rainwater. Potable tap water available in the safest countries in the world still contains some bacteria.

I brew beer, which involves a sensitive living organism, yeast, requiring a relatively bacteria free environment to work properly. Rainwater with a dash of bleach never results in an infection in the brew and it tastes great. Certain styles of beer (British Ales and Stouts specifically) actually taste better made with cloudy bore water. Try brewing beer with "distilled" water and see how you like the taste? Distilled water generally means there is not enough oxygen for the yeast to activate properly, so it goes more slowly (longer) which means greater risk of infection than a healthy fermentation with rainwater.

If I was collecting water from a puddle in sub-saharan Africa - yes I would distill it. In Thailand, I don't think it has come even close to that yet. Distilled water is still primaryily for topping up the steam iron and car battery in my view..

Interesting point....explain it to the Japanese people who are dealing with radioactive water and let me know whether they agree with you......:jap:

  7. Cool, pretty helpful actually, I always knew that Top's is bloody expensive, but what is worse, their products are more than often out of date as well. Thanks.

Bloody expensive?? TOPS is only 111b more so then the 'warehouse store' and cheaper then Big C by some margin... There are always stores that are cheaper on some products some days and others other days even Villa near us has many common products that are cheaper then the big stores. That's where it pays to be a savvy shopper but not worth it to hold off just for few baht savings cause you'll just use it up in fuel unless you plan to purchase several items that are limited to certain stores which is how I shop..

JFYI While I myself avoiding purchasing out of date it doesn't mean harmful either, that's a myth..

I do really agree with you. Further considerations are to be taken in account, not just the bare price. I am used to go to Villa once a week and I am well aware that is averagely more expensive than others. But it also offer a fidelity card that gives me a 3%+ discount on the bill and it actually keeps some foreign food that you hardly find elsewhere (for sure not in BigC, Lotus). Transportation cost is to be included. Spent time also (IMO). And also I want to mention courtesy. I had a couple of small problems in the past and they were solved in a blink. This, I have to admit, kept me visiting them regularly.

Anyway I do believe that all (or most) of the people is already aware of all these "additional features" and they keep them in account.

Therefore a good "thank you" is mandatory for GINQUEEN30 who spent his/her time for this research for the benefit of everybody.

    ;)

  8. Well done ,I think its time for many foreigners to understand NOT to interfere in Thailand politics. After all we are only guests here . Hope this story will be set as example for the future.

We all have right to express our conscience. There are consequences however. With your type of thinking, the world will never become a better place.

...and the world keeps getting worse indeed.....
