  1. hi guys, going to a thai culture course this weekend on silom road bangkok. i am finding it difficult to find somewhere to stay at a price around 600-1000. is there somewhere on silom that i have missed. i am not too fussy, as long as its clean and safe no probs. maybe i could take the sky train to somewhere. your suggestions would be very much appreciated. just trying to save some money if possible, the wages arnt too good for teaching.

    thanks in advance.

  2. hi guys,

sorry for very little response from me as i have been very busy doing lesson plans to keep the kids interested. their attention span is no more than 20 seconds before they start to nod off from the heat in the class room. i took them to an air conditioned room and played an english speaking cartoon about germs and the super heroe fights them. thai subtitles were present. 1 minute in they ask me to put it on in thai speaking as they dont understand, i explain we are trying to learn english words. they lose interest and start playing up again. so its back to drawing, colouring in with words describing whats happening in the picture.

i say the words or sentences and they repeat back. 55 mins into the leason i write the word on the board, ask what it says and all i get is blank stares.

    ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

this is going to be hard but these little terrors are not going to win. they are going to learn something even if it kills me.

anymore suggestions to keep their attention is appreciated.

    regards.

  3. hi guys,

my school wants me to attend a Thai Culture course on 28-29 this month at Silom place, bangkok as part of my ongoing teacher training.

suggestions please for accomodation close by. cheap but not nasty please.

many thanks in advance for your help.

  4. hi guys,

volunteered for a 6 month teaching contract at my local school. i am very in-experienced and after reading some responses to a previous topic i posted about how hard it is, i would like to do a tefl online course with a minimum of expense if possible.

does anyone here have any experience of i-to-i, and is it a recognised qualification. i realise there are many other accredited courses but the price is too high or they require me to attend a class for 4 weeks. the school cant do without me for 4 weeks.

it is my intention to only do the 6 months that the school asks as i am just helping them through a sticky patch (not enough teachers) any advice is appreciated.

    many thanks.

  5. Doing some classroom observations is an excellent, excellent idea. It is really difficult to grasp some of the concepts unless you see them in action.

hi,thanks for all your help, it is appreciated. i wont tell you where i live as i dont want critisism of the education system in the town i have lived in for 6 years.

i am trully inexperienced at teaching but this school needs help with english classes and the least i can do is try to help them and give something back.

i normally have a thai assistant and these classes are a breeze. however staff constraints and big student numbers dont always allow for me to have an assistant.

my cry for help was to get your input on how to control 40 kids when i am alone.

thank you to the moderator for removing the usual opinions that would have in no way helped me. if you dont have anything constuctive or helpful to tell me then just keep it to yourself. for the others, thank you very much for your input. it is very appreciated.

for you others, try to remember this forum is here to help not as an outlet for your many frustrations so you can take a bite out of someone else.

    many thanks.

  6. hi, this is a visa question but concerns getting a work permit to teach, so i hope i have put it in the right section.

i had a non-o, but it expired before i could get the necessary things done for immigration. i then went to maesai to get 15 days xtra and so on to nan to get an additional 60 days(reason was married and wanted to stay with my thai wife.

i have the necessary paperwork for income (letter from my embassy for 50,000 monthly) and was going to bangkok soon to get a non-o and then return to nan to get it extended for a year.

however, i was offered a teaching position and am now not sure what visa to apply for.

should i get a letter from the school stating i need a non-b instead of an o visa and get that extended at nan or just go ahead for the non-o and change it later if i need to.

any advice is appreciated. thanks in advance.

    regards.

  7. hi guys,

recently got offered a job as teacher, great.

however this is all new to me and keeping control of 40 runaways is proving difficult.

they are P1, about 7 year old and are really hard to control.

i have read a few how to keep discipline leaflets but they dont apply.

the fact i dont speak thai too well doesnt help but it is also discouraged in the classroom.

any tips on how to keep them under control while trying to follow a syllabus is appreciated

many thanks in advance for your help.

    best regards. :)

  8. hi, i am really constrained by time so i need an extension.

going to bangkok on 15th oct to get letter from irish consulate in order we can get married. my non o visa expired couple of months ago so my final date for departure from thailand is the 17th october. we should be married on the 16th with papers so my question is can i get an extension in bangkok when i am there, for another month.

i dont want to have to go to border crossing to get additional 15 days so your help is appreciated.

    regards.

  9. If this information can be secured elsewhere on the forum I would appreciate the thread.

A British subject living in Thailand 6 months on annual visa, I am married to Thai lady and now wanting to apply for the marriage extention visa.

All info on this subject welcome but I have started the ball rolling by sending off to various pension providers ( Including state pension) for evidence of income. This will show that my income exceeds the required minimum of 40,000 baht per month.

As I understand it I then go to British embassy with this evidence and they will then confirm my position in writing.

Question. Do I prepare the letter for them before going to the embassy, what form does the letter take, and, if going to the Pattaya embassy, do I need to arrange am appointment? Although some distance away, I will use Pattaya embassy because that is where my wife will soon be called for her interview to get a visitor's visa to the UK. I can then go at the same time - hopefully.

After securing the letter, what then?

    Regards

hello, i live in Uttaradit also and am going through the same as you shortly.next week to be exact.

maybe we can help each other in getting visa extension for marriage. also it would be nice to speak to someone who understands english.

if you want to contact me my name is john and i live in Tha-Pla mobile no; 087 8509026

hope to hear from you soon.

    take care.

  10. You need it translated to Thai and get it stamped as a true translation by the MFA (ministry of foreign affairs)

Most translation agencies can also have some one to go to MFA and do it.

If you go yourself you turn it in and pick up next day.

They had a express service before (3-4 hours) but this ended October 1st.

hi,if translation service take it for me, can it be done same day?

my wife to be speaks english/thai, can we do it alone and submit to mfa?

any idea howmuch to translate it and where i can get it done?

sorry for all questions but never travelled around bangkok. i live down in uttaradit so dont want to stay in bangkok longer than i have to.

    regards.

  12. Hi,

going to bangkok to pick up my affidavit so i can get married to long time g/friend. i have been reading conflicting views here as to getting it translated to Thai or not in order to get it stamped by thai authorities. are they content enough to see consular stamp and consul signature?

if i have to get it translated, any suggestions as to where i can get it done? going to q-house(irish consulate) how quickly can it be done?

many thanks in advance for your help.

  13. Hi JFK,

I have to admit that when I read, for some odd reason, your original post, I cringed and assumed that the thread would be short-lived as you would surely draw the negativity you were trolling for - but, all in all, boating through the responses has been a pretty good ride and the most prolific negative poster overall turned out to be you. That, by the way, was no surprise.

It must add even more to your frustration and depression to have positive posters make your OP look ridiculous and even point out that you may be borderline sociopathic.

    My condolences... :D:o

One has to always muddle through the shi*e before finding the diamond. :D

Really?!? Geez, no wonder I haven't found any - I have been tunneling in the wrong places!

Okay (putting on my noseclips), here I go into this steaming pile... :D

yes, pretty happy about how long this topic has gone on for. my best yet by far.

truth be known i use this forum for,not only occassional advice for me but also for friends issues as well.

once i get through all the cr*p, i do find some gems of advice that i can pass on.

thanks to those of you that gave some good advice and to the rest, it was good fun reading them anyway.

the thai forum is a great way to pass the time when i am in thailand but it is never to be taken seriously.

thanks again everyone and be careful out there.

  14. considering how small GB is were still 3rd on the all time list

    GB: One medal/90000 citizen

    Sweden: One medal/21000 citizen

    Finland: One medal/16000 citizen

ireland just won gold medal for sharp shooting.................

but were disqualified as they refused to take their balaclavas off. :o

question; how do they determine who gets to play football in the tournament. ireland &england not there. why?

    anybody know?

  15. the post i put on earlier i now know concerns rates owed at a property that i rented. the landlord was responsible for this and so not my fault. because i have only 2 weeks left until i return to thailand, now is not the time to address this issue with the courts.

    Lecture begins...

I get the impression that you are probably in your twenties, flame me at will,

In your post you mentioned that a custody warrant had been issued. This means there is a warrant for your arrest, I doubt whether it would have been issued lightly and without some cost, or indeed without some attempt to contact you. Now you have changed from owing rent to owing rates. Maybe you should find out exactly what the warrant has been issued for.

Normally people would leave a forwarding address so they can be contacted. You have not. You have also remained out of touch from your family, who have had this warrant sitting with then for several months. They would surely have tried to contact you over this.

You have also stated that you are very scared that the courts will debit your "life's savings" directly. I would hazard a guess and say that the amount concerned is for not more than a couple of thousand quid. If you cannot afford to lose this, then maybe you should consider whether Thailand is indeed the place for you.

    Accept responsibility,

Sort out your problems before you leave. Or do you unreasonably expect your family to handle them for you?

    ...Lecture over.

Hmm, must have FAR too much time on my hands to write that. :o:D:D

hi,it is not a warrant for arrest. it is a custody warrant for assets to be assessed. over the past 7 years my family routinely returned all mail to sender as only junk mail or some other selling product,c/cards,insurance etc came for me. i havent lived at this address for many years. the court procedures here assume that because the letters and summons have been sent by first class post that i must have gotten them. the fact is, this is my last known address before i rented the property so they sent it here. i have taken legal advice and my solicitor assures me that they didnt even try to find me(they could have asked my dad) and assuming i was living at an address that i lived in over 10 years ago was wrong. he assures me we can contest it but not in the time frame left ie; 2 weeks.

his advice- go to thailand and get on with my life. the bottom line is that in the uk the courts and the government have a new policy. we cant get the rich man to pay up so lets try the smaller guy. seems to be working looking at conviction stats.

cant wait to get out of this dump and return to my real home-thailand.

    take care.

  16. JFK - jockey the replies. You at least have shown how a topic can degenerate into the personal issues we all have and take every opportunity of airing at the least opportunity. Glad things are about to be resolved for you and you sound resilient enough to survive in Thailand.

sorry for stooping to that level with my last comment. my point is- if you think the reply you are going to give will not help, then dont post it. if you are frustrated, post your own topic. some people, namely myself really appreciate the help you get on here and to have to read replies that just dont help really makes me angry.

surely the tone of the listing should let whomever know that real and useful advice is required.

good to see that there are real people out there who can make an educated response to any posting.

as for the others, find some other way to vent your frustrations.

    best regards to most. :o

  17. Flying into the UK from Bangkok I realise that the allowance for ciggy's is 200.

However if you fly via Amsterdam, are you allowed to load up to the Euro maximum of 3200 allowance if purchesed in Amsterdam?.

I have made this journey several times but I have never been tempted to try it. Has anyone any direct experience on this subject.

    Cheers

it is not advisable to do this at amsterdam as all flights from there are routinely checked by the sniffer dogs for drugs. they will smell the tobacco and you will be stopped. hope this helps.

  18. Hey JFK, you sound like the sad and bitter one. Could you use a couple baht?

well done you. you never fail to disappoint.

another reply that is useless in its content and in no way helps this topic along.

i have enough money for now thankyou. but if i want to borrow money from an ar*ehole, i will be sure to email you.

  19. Haven't your recent topics been seeking advice on how to skirt the law? You know, not everyone is goinng to react positively to that. As for your "Disappointment Of The Thai Visa Forum", well they let you post it didn't they? Not to mention this tripe.

the post i put on earlier i now know concerns rates owed at a property that i rented. the landlord was responsible for this and so not my fault. because i have only 2 weeks left until i return to thailand, now is not the time to address this issue with the courts. my question previously was to ensure my savings were secure until i got it sorted. these are my life savings so far and i dont want some pencil pusher taking them until he finally realises that the rates bill is not down to me.

however thankyou for your negative feedback. you do not disappoint.

  20. :o hello,

i start to type now in the real knowledge that no matter what i try to convey now through this forum, it will be disparaged, critised and passed over.

i sit on a few occassions evry week and i read through the endless questions and worries of thai visa members looking for help and an understanding shoulder from his/her thai visa member. apart from the very few understanding and informative suggestions from senior members, all other replies are useless, cruel, judgemental and for the best part coming from people that couldnt care less about the members situation.

thai visa ,which was once the only place for expats to get some solid advice and understanding, is now sadly a forum for sad, bitter old farts to take out their frustrations (sexual or otherwise) on other people.

one recent post asked why expats did not acknowledge each other or say hello when in thailand. i suspect many of them read the various accounts and responses on this forum and come to the conclusion that most expats are assh*les.

everyone has done something stupid or irresponsible in their lives that they regret and they dont need some i,ve been there and fought 2 world wars dick judging them when all they asked for was some dam_n advice.

no doubt the same morons i speak about now will have their rant back at me when i submit this.

needless to say the reason why these fountains of knowledge are here in thailand in the first place is that the people in their home countries dont like them or their irrational opinions, they dont have any friends and the only reason any lady would be with them is because of the financial stability they may offer.

i will bet you that the people that give their judgemental opinions will not be able to resist posting a negative reply to this post.

go on- surprise us all and keep your useless opinion to yourself. bet ya cant.

shame on all of you(you know who you are). :D

  21. i do have a bank account in my name but with a different address. they dont know where i am so is there any way they can touch this account to withdraw funds?

    best regards.

I am assuming that you did not get a satisfactory response from MoneySavingExpert.com.

If you are leaving for good in 2 weeks just forget about it. If you are not going back the impact on your credit file (and status) is meaningless.

Don't know about N.I. but a ccj just delivers a court judgement in favour of a debtor - it is valueless unless they can attach it to a specific asset (or get the creditor to agree a repayment programme).

This not 'big brother' - no one can touch your bank account without a court order and as they do not have your bank details you are home and dry. Just take your money out and enjoy your new life in Thailand.

THANKS chaimai, i was just worried that if they look up my credit report it will give details of my new address via my c/card. does it show your address?

they just seem to be going hel_l for leather in the uk now to get as much as they can back from the little guy. cant believe they are chasing me for something that may have occured more than 5 years ago.

    regards. :o

  22. hi guys, back in the uk (n.ireland)to sort out finances etc; so i can come back to los to stay hopefully for good.

been here a couple of months now and today my father arrives to see me with a Custody Warrant in his hand.

it was issued in march and as we dont keep in touch only finding about it now. (same as a ccj in the uk)

    you can imagine my surprise.

its from the housing authority saying that i owe them rent from 5 years ago. they went ahead to court and got the warrant without even speaking or communicating with me. they just sent the post to my family address where i havent lived for maybe 10 years or more. Bastar#s.

heres where i need some help. i do have a bank account in my name but with a different address. they dont know where i am so is there any way they can touch this account to withdraw funds?

i dont want to address this problem now as i fly out in 2 weeks but i will sometime. for now i just want to get back to los where i have no worries. i am sitting here now worrying about going to the bank in the morning and finding i cant take my money out or it may be gone. really paranoid and worried at this point.

any advice is as usual very much appreciated.

    best regards.

  23. HI GUYS,

COMING BACK TO LOS IN 3 WEEKS FROM THE UK. HAVE BEEN IN THE UK FOR 3 MONTHS NOW WORKING BUT HATE EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I WANT SOME ADVICE FROM AUSSIES OR ANYONE WHO HAS DONE THIS BEFORE.

I WANT TO GO TO OZ ON A HOLIDAY VISA FROM THAILAND TO WORK.

BEFORE YOU START, I DONT WANT A LECTURE ON WHY I SHOULDNT BE DOING IT AND I AM WORKING ILLEGALLY.

I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF WHAT MY FRIENDS THERE TELL ME IS TRUE.

CAN I GET WORK THERE, CASH IN HAND WITHOUT A WORK VISA?

ARE THERE EMPLOYERS WHO WILL EMPLOY ME?

I WOULD LIKE TO GET A SPONSOR WHEN I AM THERE BUT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET ONE UNTIL I GET A JOB.

I HAVE TRIED TO APPLY THROUGH THE OZ IMMIGRATION ON A SKILLS VISA. I PASSED, THEY SAID THEY WOULD RING ME. THAT WAS 1 MONTH AGO AND I DONT EXPECT THEM TO CALL ME.

JUST TELL ME STRAIGHT- ON A HOLIDAY VISA, WILL I BE ABLE TO SECURE EMPLOYMENT? I WILL DO ALMOST ANYTHING.

MY SAVINGS ARE GETTING LOW- I CANT KEEP USING THEM IF I DONT TOP UP. I WANT TO LIVE IN THAILAND AS MUCH AS I CAN SO WORKING IN OZ FOR 3 MONTHS THEN COMING BACK TO THAILAND FOR 2 AND THEN BACK TO OZ AGAIN WOULD BE PERFECT.

NO LECTURES ABOUT TAKING AUSTRALIAN JOBS, NOT PAYING TAXES ETC IS REQUIRED. JUST SOME TRUTHFUL ADVICE ONLY.

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE.

    JFK

  24. hi guys, coming back to los soon but need to start working to keep the funds up. i want to go to australia to drive track machines, digger and such as a friend who is already there says they are crying out for them.

does anybody know where i can go to learn about operating this type of machinery and to get a license for it in thailand.

there has to be somewhere, as a thai man has to get the same certificate and license to work at this over seas.

i realise the chance of someone who knows about this is slim but i have been surprised before about the knowledge on thai forum.

thank you in advance for your replies.

    regards, jon.

Not much help for you , but i would be very surprised if you need a thai national cert. for plant operators. I myself hold a license for

JCB excavator and 360 track machine obtained here in the UK. So if you have one from your homeland, should be sufficient. I too have the same idea as yourself , and would like to work in Thailand in our winter, so good luck. Let me know how you get on, maybe work together one day. My name Jon too

    HI, THANKS JON.

I DONT HAVE ANY LICENSE TO DRIVE TRACK MACHINES AND WAS HOPING TO DO IT IN THAILAND ALOT CHEAPER THAN HERE IN THE UK. 200 POUNDS A DAY TO LEARN HERE SEEMS A BIT MUCH. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

    REGARDS,

    JON

  25. hi guys, while not strictly a farming question, i do need to know where to go in thailand to learn to operate track machines that are used every day in the farming community. i would like to get internationaly recognised cert. and license if possible. there has to be somewhere, otherwise how does a thai guy learn to do it and travel overseas to work at it.

your help is very much appreciated.

    thanks, jon
