  1. The same quality I doubt - even UK/US major firms have never got it right when legally making non patented products in my experience.

a counterfeit doesn't need to concern itself with patent infringement. The lawsuit claims Gillette makes the blades for £0.05 each and they sell for £2.43 or a 4,700+% mark-up. Even if a shop spent 5 times more to make them and sold them at 1/2 the price they would be doing well.

What would be more interesting is finding out if their factory in China has a double exit. Then as for many other stuff, you would find the real stuff at low price in local market/shops.

  2. Also be aware that what is sold online in ASIA is often knockoff copies from China from numerous reports. Be careful.

I indeed saw over the years a few fake ones in market like Yashow in Beijing, but I never dared trying them bah.gif .

And indeed, you would find plenty of fakes on Alibaba.com.

Here is an interesting website to see if what you bought is genuine or not: http://fakeblades.wordpress.com/blade-comparisons/

  3. I think I saw them at Carefour and Tesco/Lotus. Orange plastic wrap, 3 blades. Tried them once and the blades stopped working after two shaves.

If you are looking for something with 3 blades and will last you a long time, I mean heavy usage, then BIC has one called, BIC Teens (Yes made for woman), it's in a blue plastic wrapping.

    Hi Elshaheen,

I think you are mistaking this

    for this:

Fusions are sold by 4 or 8, and last more like 20 shaves + , heavy usage :)

  4. How about Boots or Watson? I "think" I once bought the Mach III blades at one these too.

But based on posts here I am guessing Jingthing is right in it being a corp decision. The expat. community is not that big and I bet neither is the high end razors in Thailand. So, maybe just offering 1 3-blade system is all they feel is warranted especially since most tourists will bring their own.

No luck finding them here too. I buy them when i go back to Europe or ask colleagues visiting me to bring some to me.

Need to go to S'pore next week though, will have a look if i can find them there.

  5. Hello,

I was wondering if any of you had encountered the same problem. Mine is 5K, just had the first service (actually i might call it a 2011 since i only switched from red to white license plate in January, 3 months to get these in Bangkok... annoyed.gif ).

Anyway, what happens is that sometimes, when in a jam, the engine simply stops. Just have to turn the keys and it is back on again, and it won't happen for 2-3 days, then again, same thing happens...

I brought it back to the dealer shop, they checked everything, and could not find what happened. They suspected it might have been due the mounting of the GPS, so they disconnected it from the main screen, but to no avail, it did it again.

I sent i back again to the shop, where they say Mitsu engineers will come and check out again what happens (I had to let it there for a week, some scratches to fix too, blame the wifey whistling.gif ), and now wait to get it back.

It is a bit weird to me, there was no visible overheating, and at first thought it was simply the settings to fix, idling too low maybe, but it seems it is not.

So, anybody else had this issue?

PS: they let me a brand new Lancer EX in the meantime, not a bad car actually smile.gif

  6. I'll bet the show was fantastic! Besides being a great musician himself, Clapton has one of the great backing bands around, Chris Stainton on keys, Willie Weeks on bass and the incomparable Steve Gadd (think Steely Dan Aja drum solo).

For those who couldn't make the show and for blues guitar lovers in general, I would highly recommend:

    It was fantastic guitar.gif

Hope they release a DVD from this tour, really wortht it.

  7. Does anyone know if there is an age restriction at this concert?

    Thanks

I would guess you'd need to be at least 50 years old to want to go?

laugh.gif Typical ageism . I am far from 50, and I go with people in their twenties and thirties which have some taste and can beyond BEP (which I quite like too btw)

  8. How the does the Alpine head-unit in the new Pajeros interface with USB based Apple products like iPods and such. Is there a way to play audio and video content from say and iPod or iPhone on the stereo system in the Pajero? Also, how is the media controlled, from the iPod's controls or the Alpine unit?

There is a full-speed iPod adaptor available from Alpine, which gives you iPod/iPhone control from the touch screen (~1500 THB). You'll need another smaller adaptor to go in-line with this if using an iPhone (to support charging). There's two different USB modules that can plug straight in and play MP3's from USB sticks, a bluetooth module for phone integration, and at least two options for built-in touch-screen compatible GPS (Alpine and Kamaz).

However, for GPS I'd still recommend going for a standalone unit like the Garmin Nuvi's - that way you can have both displays active at the same time, rather than being forced to select only one for viewing.

Seems the standard USB cable is not good enough for the new generation of Ipod Nano (with touch screen). Just upgraded it and there is some problem with it, I cannot skip from track to track with the main unit and at the end of the podcast playing, there is an error on the main unit screen.

About the GPS, the Alpine unit i have is in the glove box, connected to the main screen, but I can also use it stand alone. It is not the case for you?

  9. I use Dr Sunil in Bangkok. In fact my son and I have an appointment tomorrow. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. However, the level of service I have received has always been second to none. His website lists the prices for each treatment. Just google him.

Thanks for the tip. I will try him tomorrow for a major orthodontia case and for my 5to who just lost his milk teeth and lack of space for the ones growing.

And his location is just perfect for me jap.gif

  10. Well probably because I had 2 Proton years ago (a Wira, then the Waja), and because I knew so many people having one over my 8 years in KL, I swear I would never ever buy one, or recommend to anybody to buy one.

Or maybe it is because after 2 months on my brand new Waja the whole electric circuitry burned and I had to wait 4 weeks to get back my brand new car.

Or maybe it is because any Malaysian who is not into the whole "Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional" idea (if he is, he is also probaly singing Satu Malaysia laugh.gif ) will buy anything BUT a Proton if he can. Which might explain a drop in market share from 60% to less around 25% in 8 years, and letting Perodua (Dahaitsu) becoming the number one in Malaysia.

As for comparing the tax on cars between Malaysia and Thailand, let's take some figures: my Pajero Sport cost nearly 50% more in Malaysia, while a Proton is about the same price here than there. As far ASEAN made are concerned, it is not quite comparable, everything was made to artificially sustain Proton. I don't think there is a "National" manufacturer totally sponsored by tax payers in Thailand, and using this tax advantage to fund their exported cars in some countries? whistling.gif

So one could wonder: if Malaysian don't want to buy Protons and don't if they can, why would you buy one? cool.gif

  11. Hi,

I am looking for the following equipments.

    Thanks in advance!

  12. Some months ago my GF and I decided to go to Safari World... it took us two days to get there.

No, really, we left on a Saturday morning and arrived on Sunday afternoon. Asked the GF (she's the driver), "You know the way?", "sure!". Five hours later going around in circles in some unknown areas of the city we decided to try to get back home, which took another 3 hours.

Undaunted we tried again the next morning, this time I had bought a couple maps of Bangkok, laid them down on the coffee table with Google Earth opened in the laptop to plan the route. So we had to go to Petchburi, turn left at Ekamai, go straight down Thanon Pradist and turn right... then we deploy the 101 Airborne Divition to secure the bridge at Ramintra and prepare a naval barrage to soften up the toll boots at... sorry, what with all the preparation we needed to do before getting on the car I got mixed up with other things...

So, the second time everything went well except the time my GF said in glee "oh look! a shortcut!" me -> :shock1: "NO!!!, straight, go straight!" so of course she took the shortcut down a seemingly endless network of sois. 60 minutes later we emerged from the adventure about half a kilometer down the road we were in before taking the shortcut.

Which was a good thing because if in that instance I didn't throttle my GFs neck until she gave up the ghost then I foresee a long and peaceful life together.

So, once again on the good path, and after another minor navigation error (it's easy to confuse "keep going straight" with "turn left on the next soi" ) we got to Safari World after three hours or so, one hour before closing time. Yippie... :ermm:

Funny you'd mention that, since I went there last Saturday. We left at 10.30 from Phra Kanong, dropped my eldest daughter at Ramkhamhaeng 70+, change the Sat Nav destination to Safari world and arrived there at 11.30 wink.gif. Oh and the Sat Nav was showing the Safari World tracks too laugh.gif

  13. Isn't it fun trying to cross a street there as a pedestrian? I wait for an old lady and just shadow her...hoping the locals respect their elders!

Well at least they have overpasses on many streets. And people respect the traffic lights. Just try to be a pedestrian in Beijing. the only way to cross a street with toddlers is to carry them and run wink.gif

  14. Worst traffic in the world... I hear Saigon is worse yet. I'll let you know if my opinion changes.

I'd say Jakarta is way worse. And I refused to even try to drive in Beijing. Bangkok is bad because of traffic jams, but I still reckon Thai drivers are better behaved than Chinese ones (or even Malaysians)

Go to Mumbai, and you will suddenly find driving in Bangkok is fairly easy.

Not been there for around 5 or 6 years, but you are right. As a matter of fact, after posting yesterday, I suddenly remembered my experiences there, feeling lucky to be alive when out of the taxi after trips around town or from Pune to Mumbai...

  16. I had the film put on today.

I also raised the question of fitting the ipod cable in a couple of days when I will take delivery of my new Pajero. I mentioned a friend who had recommended me to be given the 1500 bht prce. After a little awkwardness about being unable to give your actual name they did agree to 1500 instead of the original 1800 quoted to me. So thanks for that, Solo. By the way will this cable charge the iPod while it is playing?

They're open everyday. If you know what you want film-wise, elsewhere will be cheaper. But for piece of mind, use him.

Yes for the Ipod (Nano). But I am still to find out how to browse though music and podcasts from the Alpine unit. Nothing about it in the manual... Only way I found out was to go on my podcasts folder on the Ipod before plugging it. So if somebody knows...

  17. Well for one, I am not quite sure Thailand is a major producer of tea. Blame the climate probably... So I am not sure they could sustain their own consumption with their (relatively) meagre production. And I guess Lipton had a good marketing team, making sure the local Lipton was adapted to Thai tastes (I find it very mld).

And there is only one kind of tea leaf (Camellia sinensis). The different teas (Black, Green, Pu Er...) are processed differently, or even aged.

/ no I am not a tea lover, but I visited plantations south of here biggrin.gif, and I had to buy a lot of good tea for friends when living in China to bring back to Europe wink.gif
