  1. My father and I also really enjoyed this afternoon's Pot Luck.

Nice to meet everybody and I am really looking forward to the next one.

Great location , the weather was perfect and the food was delicious.

Thank you scorpio 1945 for all your effort.

Kudos to Scorpio 1945 for all of the planning correspondence and good judgment it took to obtain this perfect site. As has been said the food was wide in variety as well as high in quality. Lively conversations punctuated with a bit of laughter and fact sharing about Chiang Rai's inner workings kept everyone involved. Nice to have met all of you for the first time as I am a newbie that was made comfortable with hospitality and open handed exchanges of friendly banter. Anyone that did not attend should attend the next one or they will miss out on a good bit of fun and cometary as well as a buffet of food second to none in.

Photos anyone ??? I saw a few cameras so I kept my camera in my pocket.

  2. By the way, since the whole vehicle registration department is now nation wide you don't need to transfer to CR if you don't want to. You can re-new anywhere.

    Cheers

    AjarnP

    AjarnP,

In spite of all the humor going on here this little bit of information made my day.

"By the way, since the whole vehicle registration department is now nation wide you don't need to transfer to CR if you don't want to. You can re-new anywhere."

    Thanks AjarnP!

  3. The Cincinnati Kid with Steve McQueen is a classic that keeps you interested to the last frame. His is also good in The Great Escape as well The Sand Pebble which is set in Hollyweird's idea of China at the turn of the 20th century. Of course he is great in Papillon a classic that will forever be an exciting watch.

For modern day edge of your seat viewing may I suggest both "No Country For Old Men and Law Abiding Citizen ( beware the beginning of this last one as it is over the line for my taste but makes up for it with non stop surprises and of course the obligatory surprise ending!

  4. perhaps best to get a friend with a Thai wife to pop in the licence place when they are passing and enquire.

Should only take a few minutes. I'd do it myself but i'm probably going to town saturday and I doubt there open

Nice of you to think to offer assistance. I can now go in there and find out without any issues on my mind.

It was the feeling that I Had To change right away that was pushing me to get some information.

We were planning on a drive around day tomorrow in search of a printer to duplicate some old books that have lost their bindings anyway. Might as well go out there and ask without the blue book in my hand and have only a photocopy. I can play dumb as that comes so naturally to me

    Thanks again

  5. Jubby,

Excellent points! I will look into that tomorrow. I do see that the plates are paid until some month in 2554 (written in Thai except the 2554.)

Thanks for your insight. I feel you may be spot on as that was in the back of my mind. The only reason I was considering this is the auto dealer in CM told me "you will have to get CR plates "

    mello

Do you really need to change ? Is it a Law requirement ?

I changed plates a few years ago because I modified the vehicle to carry more passengers it was then due a different colour plate and tax by Law.

I changed when the Tax was due, It didnt cost much if anything, maybe a couple of hundred baht for the plate but I think it was free.

  6. I recently traded my truck for a car from a Chiangmai auto dealer. The new to me car has CM plates and I need to get CR plates. I found the government building on Sven's map. Is there a way to get custom plate's I see around TH (fee?)

The cost and process is what I need to define before I go there. Can I ask for or look at a few plates numbers (for a fee) prior to getting that plate number?

Unlike most of you guys on this board I do not have a marital translator as my wife is Vietnamese.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Kandahar-Samsung Model C139STF is a Microwave Oven that converts easily to a conventional oven.

I can not say enough good things about this oven as it not only does regular things that both oven and micro do but it has grill and convection modes as well.

The 4 pieces that need to be changed to use the oven and or microwave are easily interchangeable in 10 seconds.

Yes the thermostat works wonderfully from 100c to 240c at 20c increments.

Very nice stainless steel housing and the implements are also of top quality.

    It has :

    Digital display with clock

    Standing time setting button

    Auto defrost

    Junior/snack mode

    Auto reset feature mode

    Auto cook feature mode

    Preheat selection mode

    Stop/cancel button

Language mode selection (yes Thai and English)

Full 47 page instruction book in both English and Thai.

All modes are easily done with one nob that is backlit by led

    Dimensions: 56cm wide - 32cm high - 46cm deep (Large enough for a 10kg bird)

We purchased it 3 years ago at Siam TV in CM for 10,000 tb and it has never given us any trouble just keeps on cooking.

If you would like to look at it here are a few pictures.

if you would like top come by the next time in town for a closer look PM me and I can send you directions to our home

Sounds great for me! At the same Siam I bought a 4 in 1 for 16.000... they were never able to fix the thermostat problem. I need a trustable one for baking my buns, cakes and cookies and various meals...

Baking is definitely high on our list here also so a thermostat out of whack sounds rough. I saw a good oven - grill thermometer in the baking store on Sven's map referred to me by VF. It stared at 100c and went up to very high heat possibly that can help you make sense of your out of whack thermometer. Good luck in your search for a fix.

  10. Pizza is nice but on a warm eve there is nothing better than cold ice cream! Macro supplies Nestle ice cream in 3kg boxes that is of the best quality. I do no like ice milk but do enjoy a good scoop or 3 of quality ice cream.

Yes a good sized freezer is necessary for this size, that said it is less than half the price of the ice milk crap they pawn off on the unseasoned pallet's of the masses here. No beer is necessary but a good sugar rush is in store for anyone that knows the score of the ice cream at the Macro store!

We will give it a try next time. Thanks for the tip.

    Kandahar

We picked up a box of the pizza's you started this thread about. They are very good for both what you get ,taste plus quality at a good price. We have a conventional oven and 17 min at 220c is perfect.

I do have one complaint though....They are gone in just 2 days and I am now clearing space in the freezer so there goes my salad and veggie summer! ~ The pool is getting colder and the pizza will be so much warmer so here I have a dilemma...more exercise or less beer....Hmmm Thanks for the tip, by the way the pizza is right next to the 3kg Nestle's ice cream....I detect a pattern here

Where did you buy that oven? is the thermostat trustable?

  11. MF, I'm glad you found a pizza that you like. Now, it sounds as if you need to buy a new freezer because yours is leaking the pizzas out too quickly.

I still have one of the first three pizzas that I bought. I ration them here at my house because I don't go to Makro often. We go maybe every four to six weeks.

Here's a tip for saving a little money, especially if you have a larger family living there with you. Toilet paper. Go to Home-Mart or one of the other large home stores and buy the hotel/restaurant type bathroom tissue dispensers. Then buy the package of four huge rolls of tissue at Makro and use that instead of the little rolls that come in the 24 packs or whatever it is that you buy. HUGE savings over the course of the year. I buy a new four pack about every six weeks or two months and I have two dispensers here.

I'll keep an eye out for a new freezer that does not leak pizzas and I'll let you know if I see one. Until then, you can store your pizzas in my freezer if you want to.

Kandahar - You were right I looked at the freezer to locate the leak you spoke of after seeing a puddle near the door. The freezer looked fine then after looking closely at the puddle I saw the leak clearly...even is the murky water there I was staring back ...just a bit bigger that I see myself in my mind,(denile)

Huge toilet paper dispenser huh...does it come in a dining table model? :redcard2:

  13. TV "Chiang Rai province have been damaged by flash floods from Doi Nang Kaew and Lao River. Reportedly, more than 500 homes have also been damaged by water breaching the river banks; hundreds and hundreds of rai of agricultural land have been inundated."

I just drove through the center of town at 2:00-2:20pm from Macro to the old CM Highway 1211. There are many streets flooded and passable only with a high center vehicle. The vocational school is swamped with hundreds of motorbike engines under water. Best be very careful with any plans or children traveling home in this one!

  15. I have put a place marker on the map under the title: Shrimp Farm/Restaurant in Thoeng. I'm pretty certain that is the location. It looks right anyway.

VF Your newly placed flag is where I saw the restaurant and actually pulled in and did a U turn. It was closed at 2pm like any good restaurant should be, it looked clean and spacious. We will definitely go for an evening meal.

  16. To get to the prawn farms in Thoeng, go straight through the town and after about 1km take the small road to the right.

They are about 3km along this road.

    Enjoy.

Thoeng sounds like the source for all the fresh crustacean's, I do like to go to the farmer so that I can keep the chain of delivery under cool control! Will take the big cooler & blue ice and make a day of it. This thread has become very informative, so to all I send a hearty thanks.

  17. That about does it then, Thanks for the answers. I will go out again with the knowledge that it is a restaurant not a farm. I do recall passing a restaurant earlier but incorrectly assumed a prawn farm would at least have a rough image of a prawn or a prawn farmer :<). Thanks for the directions and corrections guys you were all helpful. My cholesterol will be high before midnight!

  18. Had a taste for some fresh prawns today so took Sven's map to locate what seemed like a promising lead in the prawn farm. Watwainakhai road was easy to locate off 1211. The map clearly puts the prawn farm near the end of this road on the right.

After 45 minutes of back and forth on each and every soi we gave up.

Nice adventure for certain with rice paddies and nice views of sleeping lady mountain but no prawns. My crustacean frustration has me yearning for some large prawns on the barbecue. Anyone know where I can obtain a couple kg of these tasty fresh water critters?

  19. We use this product for salad dressings and for that matter anything that calls for lemon or lime juice.

It is definably a sour citric juice that is table friendly.

We bought a case (12 bottles) at the local fruit wholesale market last March (near Hwy 1 &1020 intersection - Off Hwy 1 just south of Hwy 1020 on the east side).

I was a bit dubious at first but was back for another case inside of 2 months.

The cost is nominal at 100 Tb. for the case.

The zesty citrus flavor is a compliment to fish as well as salads.

We use it with chili peppers - garlic - water - sugar & fish sauce as a dipping sauce.

As far as a drink we have yet to try that so let me know how that works out for you.

  20. The way I read it, the OP just threw out the wrong receipt. Kept the old one and threw out the curent one. Hopefully he will learn not to throw things out so quickly. ;) Be mellow fellow. :)

Thanks VF - I have calmed down now to my mellow self. Misread the thread after a day of running around in the Rai, amazing that I actually got some things done! Just want to keep my squeaky clean 5 year record with Thai immigration so I read tend to overthink things too much sometimes.

    Have a great weekend.

  21. Am I reading this correctly?

I am here in the Kingdom on a NON - IMM O retirement Visa.

This is the first I've heard of a new TM.47 Form For Alien To Notify of Staying Longer Than 90 Days) commencing on July 14.

My 90 day report date is due on July 22nd and I usually send it via EMS with a self addressed post paid return envelope.

My question is do I need a new form TM.47 (after July 14) or am I confusing this thread with another 90 day form?

For once I hope I am just confused! LOL:ermm:

  22. Not just Nigerian fraud. Below(blue) is an email I received yesterday regarding a vehicle I have for sale. I responded asking for his PayPal account number so I could check his account. I also asked "Who" was his pick up agent so I could confirm identity for correct title tranfer

No answer of course but another reminder that Fraud is everywhere , not just from Nigeria..

    Cheers,

"I will like to make an offer of 400,000 baht for this and i will be happy if my offer and i will be happy if my offer is accepted by you.

I am a Father at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, St. Basil's Homes is an outreach of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Bangkok that provides residential and community based services for the aged around Thailand, It is a non-profit registered charity in Thailand, i am buying this vehicle for my Nephew as a surprise birthday gift and I will be glad if you can accepted my offer.

I can only pay through PayPal at the moment as i don't have access to my bank account online because i am on a missionary and its not allowed to use phone because of the rules here and (i don't have my check book with me because i only pay on every transaction i made through my PayPal), but i have my bank account attached to my PayPal account, and this is why i insisted on using PayPal to pay, You can easily get yourself an account with PayPal through this link www.PayPal.com/th and, all i will need is your PayPal email address to make the payments, i will be expecting your email.

I have a pick up agent that will come for the pick up after payments has been sorted.

I will be waiting to read from you soon.

  23. Do I need to bring my own Towel and do you have facilities for the children ?

Are lead weights facilities for children?
