Check out the Thai Visa section of this forum, for details on permanent residence - it is very difficult to obtain.

At your age you either need to be very skilled in your profession so that you can get a job here in Thailand, or you need to marry a Thai girl in order to get a visa to live here for a long period.

Since you are asking in this group I guess the latter is not really an option.

I only know of a bad experience but that was between the parties involved The Man and the Woman Do not know how ther family reacted. This happend in the US I have heard one horror story from my wife The Man and the Woman are still involved to my knowledge anyway. But both of them are thai. Well That is a good question The thing is this If you are not exposed to these situations ok like what you are explaining the other questions that you wrote. about pole dancing about ladyboys and making fun of bargirls, these things in my opinion don't make a "real man" In my opinion a real man respect others Maybe i just don't get it, I wish someone could explain like i said in past posts i have never been with a bargirl. just remember "retire" if you apply for a retirement visa you can't work!

You will need a non immg visa B but you can arrive on an O and if you still desire to teach change to a B once work has been arranged.

I am no where near retirement age but it does not hurt to think of the future i was thinking of living in thailand There is a retirement visa? This thread was very informative

Auattaya, Shoukothai, for history, ruins ect, Lopburi, has some interesting Khemer ruins, loads of monkeys and is very un touristy.

Chang Mai/rai, Mae Hongsong for mountains.

Kow Yai national park, for mountains/wildlife

Beaches of Ko Samet, Chang or down south Phuket, Krabi, Saturn.

Kanchanaburi has a nice setting on the river, site of the "bridge over the river Khawi" and some nice resort hotels out of town either floating on or next to the river, the scenary around is pretty good to and only a few hours out of BKK.

My fav is Phuket, world class beaches, loads of nightlife and good resteraunts. On the down side its probably the most expensive place in Thailand and Patong is very touristy.

Hmm where to see the real Thailand?

Its all of it, the tourist beaches, Bangkok, main cities around the country, small country villages. Life is different in all of them but they all go to make the real Thailand.

Hundreds of them, and they were all Special Ops by the way they tell it.

From my military experience most of the G.I's that were in Thailand on a regular bases in the mid to late 80's were mostly special ops. All though I have not ever been on an A team or through the Q-course. I was assigned to HHC, 1st Special Forces group Airborne station on okinawaas a 63b-P I know these guys loved Thailand and I sure plenty of them retired there. But one thing that was mentioned in another posting is true. Most of these guy's would never tell you they were special ops. For the most part if some one tells you they were special ops they are full of sh1teand are wanta be's. These guy's are not your typical military men who go out bar brawling and talking crap. They try to keep a low profile.

I don't have a clue to were they would be hanging out these days. If I had to guess I would say around Lopuri.

btw Iceman if you are retired in Thailand pm me, I am the guy wo helped you pull your car out of the east china sea.

Maybe I'm a little paranoid but when someone asks a question ans does not come back to comment I get a little worried. I am not saying anything else about this.
