  1. You will receive a 90 day non immigrant visa entry and then during the last 30 days can do the normal one year extension of stay process (and return 30 days later for final stamp). They used to do in one go for retirement but even that seems to be two visits now at most locations.

If doing with less than 15 days I would check first that they will allow as there has not been any notice of official policy made that I am aware of.

Thanks for the input. I would like to bounce something off you but dont want it public. How can we comms in total privacy?

Anybody else seen an official line on the number of days there must be left on your 30 day stamp?

  2. No need to cancel your Non-O spouse extension because you can get a work permit on that basis if you have proof of job and thai income of 50,000 a month from that job. You will need a letter from your employer stating your position and income and date you started work there. You may also need a form completed by your employer. You will need to show your monthly 01 documents which show your income and month tax payments and you will also need the 91 doc which shows your annual income and tax payments. You will need marriage cert also and kids birth certs if you have any. Take your wife with you when you do to the work dept.

    Hope this helps.

  3. They set the timeline - it used to be 21 days minimum but have seen reports down to 7 days recently - they will not do on last day from recent report. You will need all the information and wife that is normally required. But if money has not been in account the required time you will come back 60 days later anyhow so it will have been in account for required time then and that is when extension process will start.

I have both a thai income of 55,000 baht a month so dont need the money in the bank.

If I leave it to 10 days before will that be ok do you think? So they will give me 60 days Non-O extension and after that when I comeback to immigration they will give me a new extended stay stamp for 1 year?

    Have all the documents

  4. 1. You can covert you visa exempt entry to a non-O (2000 baht) and then extend it for 1 year (1900 baht). You can not do it at Suan Plu, it must be done at Chaing Wattana.

    2. The extension can be either for marriage or retirement if you qualify.

    3. You cannot work on a retirement extension.

    4. If you intend to work, your best approach would be to convert to a Non-O and extend it for marriage purposes. Some labor offices will not issue work permits on marriage extwnsions, but if you have been doing it for 8 years, I suspect that the labor office that you use doesn't have a problem doing it.

My existing work permit is until Sept 2013. If I do my new Non O quickly wont this remain in place?

There's no problem with your work permit, it's still valid (I think?). It's your visa & extension that's messed up... Conversion and extension per (4) above is your best option. Unless you no longer have the 400k handy which would make it a bit tricky, in which case you might be stuck doing border runs or visa runs while you re-season your funds...

I have a 55,000 baht income from my Thai job as MD of our company. Will this still be ok?

  6. You've lost your status due to entering the country as a 30-day visa-exempt tourist.

But I am not sure what your previous status was, as you cannot get a work permit based on a retirement visa. What was your "current" (now lost) extension of stay until 21 Sep 12 based on?

It was based on a spouse visa and we have our own company/business.

  7. Questions:

Can I do conversion at Bangkok suan plu or do I have to go to pathumthanee were I did my annual extension of stay?

Can I do a retirement visa off the back of the 30 day I have?

Can I work and still hold a work permit on a retirement visa?

My current extension was until 21 Sept 2012 until I forgot to do re-entry permit. I have had a work permit for 8 years and never missed a re-entry in 10 years. Whats my best approach?

    Many thanks to any contributors.

  8. So thanks for nothing, US Embassy. This is propaganda.

    No Nikster....

At best, it's a government doing the responsible thing in trying to alert its citizens in a city where a lot of them reside to a supposedly imminent threat.

At it's not best, it's a government trying to cover its a**, so that in the event something big were to happen, no one later could come back (a la Wikileaks or who knows what) and point the finger saying, "You knew and did nothing to alert people."

Given the choice between the Thai approach and the U.S. approach, I'd take the U.S. approach every time.

If things were left up to the Thai government, the whole country would be flooded or terrorized before someone would pop up and say...."Uh... maybe... possibly, we have a small problem here. But don't worry, we don't want to do anything that would hurt our tourism."

In my view, it's a whole lot better that the U.S. Embassy issues the warning and nothing ends up happening vs. all the authorities know, they say nothing, and someplace filled with tourists gets bombed.

    +1

Swoon and faint all you want. It takes a lot more than a vaguely worded warning from the US Embassy to have me prancing around in a fit of the vapours...

Agree! but if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time then you aint gonna be prancing!

Dodging your own fate aint easy mate!!!! Although I have managed it a few times already!! But thats another story!

  9. Even muslim terrorist nut jobs take exercise loin jollies, dont mean they have an imminent target!! Nevertheless takecare all who are out and about in Bangkok!

There must be names on flight schedules that flagged up or similiar!! maybe from multiple locations.

An Atheist! Who has no need for a crutch!! And thats not meant to be a pun!

  10. Gaunt looking, thin, underweight. They are often unwell with something and generally look this way. This is what 3 guys who I know have it look like. Obviously not all carriers suffer these symptoms. Nor does it mean you have it if you look like this. Like I said!! The ladies tend not to show outwardly signs from what I have seen!

Regardless, folk have to be careful out there if they are dipping their wick!!

PS: Your image might have it!

Ha! ha! Hey Sherlock! Sounds like the average TEFL teacher to me. Back to detective classes for you.

How very very unperceptive of you!!!! But nevermind!

A TEFL teacher wouldnt even make the fuse.

  12. Based on my knoweledge of girls that have had HIV the 1m is not even close to the truth. Try 2 or 3m!!

Way back in 2002/2003 I was aware at the time of 2 ladies who were working at the time and I probably new maybe no more than 20 ladies at the time. These 2 ladies lived no more than 1km apart. Some staff and others acquaintances! Now that is 10%! So if you were to do a rough guestimate eg. half that 10% that = 5% and 5% of population is 3m!!! I bet im not far off!!

Its also sometimes quite often easy to spot some of the sexpats/tourists who have it!!

    Be careful out there!!!!

  13. You will need more than luck to even have this read! Been here 9 years and I can tell you that we are not wanted by the majority only our money, thus little will change in regards to issues like this. Thailand does not give the same respect to expat as other countries do! Sorry but it is true. Took my wife to my home country and within 3 years she had my countries passport. Here I still have a battle with a visa and we have 2 children aged 4 & 6. Too much insular cave thinking here!

  14. What I find interesting (if not a little suspicious and amusing) is the watchful presence of Yongyuth Wichaidit (Deputy PM, chairman of the Pheu Thai Party and a Thaksin crony) in virtually every one of YS's public showings. Here she and he are yesterday, I believe, at a food prep rally. Is he looking over her left shoulder to make sure she didn't miss any ingredients ... or is he simply hungry ... for a very public video presence?

    Sh And Crony Mafia.

Super crims with no integrity or care for the people.

When will the Thai people wake up and rid themselves of the parasites that plague them

  17. Quote "Metropolitan Waterworks Authority governor Charoen Phassara yesterday described the tapwater situation "as worse than expected".

This entire situation is clearly going to be far worse than these incompetents expect. They cannot even locate their flood relief center properly.

Genius ! So, you are the competent one, why don't you go to propose your magic solutions, save the country and be the new national hero ?

it's easy to come to this country to systematically insult Thai people, while staying sit in a sofa.

Go and solve the problem than.

He would need a WP for doing that. ;)

Not before he's had a disease test!
