I don't think there's a legal requirement of having a valid Passport if you already have PR. If you don't intend to leave the country, you can happily let it expire and the Red Book serves as your legal ID in Thailand

Anyone opened a Schwab International account while living here?
I did. But it's been a while. I think I used my credit card statement as address proof (showing my address in english offcourse) Also, make note that you need USD 25K minimum balance for the Schwab international account.

So just accept this fact and move on with your daily lives. There are a significant minority of Thai Indians, born and bred in Thailand since last many generations but they are still be considered Indians, with a thai ID card.
