  1. Hi,

I own a nice 37 sqm studio with aircon, ceiling fan, 42 inch led TV, walk in shower etc. for 7.500 Baht a month + water and electricity. Location is on the 9 th floor (pool view) at Chiang Rai Condotel in the middle of the city and short walking distance away from the famous  "clock tower".

Contact me here or visit chiangmairiversidecondo.

    Have a good day.

  2. It all has to do with these five: education, responsibility, ego, skills, brains. I rather like to sit on the back of a bike without a  helmet at 120 kmph with a skilled western rider having brains and no negative ego than to sit on the back of a bike wearing a helmet with a Thai at even 40 kmph. Can be within the city. All the rest that people (politicians) can think of is a plaster on a wooden leg.

  3. Yes, I understand some people can have fun at Sand Creek. Do not call it a (real) golf course however.

For the frequent players: be careful as all the land is polluted with heavy metals from neighboring lacquer shops / factories.

There must be a reason one cannot built a house, right? Even in Thailand.

There must be a reason the surroundings look like a desert right? Even in jungle Thailand.

There must be a reason it is bank owned and ran by the caddies for almost 20 years.

Played there twice with friends and all day long for 90 Baht. A while ago though.

  4. To Master Thighlander who never makes a mistake,

Your complaint would be a lot more convincing if you knew to use a capital letter in a new sentence.

It is not a credit card I am talking about Thighlander. I have a few CC's which I use all time. Following negative comments I just wanted to test, using not too big of amounts, this Kasikorn DEBIT (sorry Master) card in a foreign country. The test was 100% negative.

You (with capital letter please Thighlander) either learn from it; or let them take your money.............It's not rocket science.........

  5. Went back to the US and used my Kasikorn Debet Visa Card twice for testing purposes. I had heard numerous strange things about how Thai banks handle those things. First of all, difficult to check as you see a fugure in your passbook only.

I used it at Ramada and Country Inns & suites. Ramada's bill was 48US$ and Kasikorn charged 68US$ !!!! Country Inns bill was 58US$ and Kasikorn charged 64US$.

After numerous phone calls and emails over 3 days I finally got a not too clever lady who told me both hotels charged me extra's. Contacted both hotels and got a reply instantly. Both replies the same style: "Why should we charge you extras? Our bill is what you got and final".

Again numerous calls and emails to Kasikorn. Finally someone who wanted to listen; Oh..... is it not the hotel? What can it be? We charge following the bills only....... Long story short, 2 weeks after I complained the first time, they paid me back 180 Baht for the Country Inns and 300 Baht for Ramada. Still 300 Baht too short for Ramada so tomorrow all starts again.........another 2 weeks?

Be warned using your debetcard overseas. It could be systematic.

  6. Well, back to OP.

To be less polite than I was originally, I adamantly believe that his point of view is, well, just plain provocative in a childish way. I would not pick and choose, as he has, among items in the last minutes of the club, which really have no business being of general discussion on a public forum. I have all the minutes of this committee, and I have saved what sparse minutes there have been of previous committees.

The paucity of such minutes is understandable as they are produced in awkward English. If they were in Thai, would OP be able to read them? Why native-speaking English speakers on the committee haven't been able to deliver regular reports over the years is beyond me! They probably haven't cared very much.

The current committee of the club has been working quite effectively to sort out many problems which have plagued the club for years, and none of it has been in committee member self-interest. The committee has been working to solve many problems that should never have become problems in the first place, and they are doing a rather good job of it all told.

Yes, Gymkhana could be a much better club and the course could be much better, but the problems, which have festered over many years of inefficient committees, is a real challenge. The problems will not be sorted out easily. But what I have seen and continue to see is quite good progress --- including the solution of some really outrageous problems left unresolved by many previous committees.

OP's point of view, as expressed in his original post, is argumentative and juvenile. Just look at how he led off with a comment about racism. That's utterly absurd and certainly not constructive in any sense. Why do such complainants seem to crop up on ThaiVisa Chiang Mai? That doesn't solve anything. OPs point of view certainly doesn't.

I am not interested in arguing point-by-point in a public forum. I suggest that OP begin to be more helpful at the club.

In for a penny, in for a pound.

Please be clear. We all want to know what's about.

  7. It was a dirty building skeleton for about 15 years. Remember the 1997 crash?

Do not buy as the building is rotten.

15 years in rain, wind and sun without windows, doors is disastrous for thai buildings as the materials used are substandard.

  8. There's an agent (Joy) from a large condo on the riverside that has some discounted memberships available at Alpine. To me it is the best deal course / price. Although the memberships are not listed on her website contact her if interested. Google something like riverside chiang mai condo.

  9. Why you not contact Joy at www,chiangmairiversidecondo.com? I just bought a Riverside condo with beautiful views from her at 35.000 baht a sqm.

She has other units around that price.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, though the 40,000 baht/sqm. I mentioned was just the average. The range (based on 45 listings) is 27,347-53,261 with 39,000 being the median.

What is the general area maintenance fee for The Riverside (pr. sqm.)?

For 2014 I paid about 180 Baht per sqm. A 79 sqm unit is roughly 14.000 Baht a year.

  10. Yes my dear, that's right. In fact, it is quite simple; do the math.

12000 BTU (normal for a 50 sqft area) will give you roughly 4 kwh. 1 kwh in Thailand costs about 5 Baht (some condos will charge you up to 15 Baht!).

    8h x 4 kwh x 5 Baht = 160 Baht a day.

    160 Baht a day x 30 days = 4.800 Baht a month for a 12000 btu unit switched on 8 h a day.

That is for a new unit with a clean filter of course.

Again, or the owner/manager is stupid or the Christmas man

    50 sq ft u serious? = 4.64515 sq meters

    And using 12000 btu aircon?

    Com'on

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Sorry, it should read 500 sqft of course.

  12. Hello Giselle,

Aircon on 8h a day all week?.................... PEA (provincial electricity) will charge at least 1.000 Baht for that. If you pay 500 Baht only, the owner/manager is or stupid or the Christmas man.

  13. TIT.

Yes, they work on commission to be split by them and the police. Ther's a few "racers" driving those "ambulances" so they can "legally" race at night. At least one ambulance has many race attributes and the engine has been completely modified.

It is not about helping but all about (drunk) racing and commission. Sometimes they just race around for fun only, not having had an accident at all.

A famous Thai actor wanted to stop these practices a few years ago, however, too much money and fun involved.

    Only in Thailand.
