Amazing, do they (the cats) actually climb walls?
No, but the geckos come down sometimes. Cats are very patient killers.

Middle of the week are good days, not usually many people.
I'm sure 'proof of pension' letter is valid for 3 months although some immigration staff make up their own rules.

I'd say you are pretty observant to pick all that up while composing your post!
Here in Thailand if the restaurant adds a service charge then I won't leave a tip other then the few odd coins in change.

I come from Udon Thani, it's a day trip by air to get something I can get free in Australia and have the privilege to pay 900 baht. Now I must make an appointment to get to a place no taxi driver knows. (because the embassy seems to be down a back alley).
The last trip I took, took 2 hours and 2 taxi's from Don Muang, the first taxi gave up on finding the embassy although I had the address written in Thai, the second had to ask a motor-cycle taxi for directions.
Now I must try to beat the clock (appointment). I guess they are so busy in the embassy although I'm usually the only person there.
I.m not impressed with this lack of service and definitely not impressed with the new 'Fortress Australia'

Here in Darwin, Australia car battery life is, to quote my local mechanic and from experience, 2-3 years, anything after that is bloody good luck! The climate here is the same as Thailand except the other way round i.e. we're just starting our wet season.

Agreed, to call someone fat in Thai is definitely no insult. My Thai wife has two daughters the younger is rather 'broad across the beam' she is sometimes referred to by her name but more often as Moo (pig). Not behind her back, to her face and is sometimes yelled out to (as only Thai ladies can!) in a crowd. My step-daughter seems to regard this as a term of endearment.

Don't ask us Aussies how to spell place-names, we can't even spell aboriginal place-names the same way twice e.g. Gunbalunya - Kunbalunjja (there are other multiple spellings).I suppose it depends on which Aborigine said the word to the translator (no written language). Don't matter every one calls it Oenpelli anyway!
There must be thousands of cases like this around the world.

only about 9 out of 64 million Thai people file their income tax returns yearly; however, only 2.3 million of them actually pay taxes, while the other 7 million are exempted from the

i've never been able to take out more than 20k baht a day. though never tried 25. tried 30, but no go.
20,000 max per transaction, max 3 transactions per day, max 50,000 per day.
That's how mine is.
If I want to get my hands on 100,000 I must wait until 10 minutes to midnight, get the first 50k, wait until midnight and get the other 50k. Simple.
With Thai ATMs I can get 20k baht or 40k baht depending on the bank or machine (Never tried multiple transactions), if I want more I go into a bank show them my passport - they make a couple of phone calls and I get my money, card limit, NO problems.
Australian ATMs give you your card back first. When you take the card the cash comes out, lastly the balance check(if requested)
