Why doesnt the headline say "Thai Owners arrested" after all you identify non Thais
Unnecessary. Non-Thais can't own a bar !

Why believe anything this report comes out with. It starts off by saying 400,000 infections by the end of next year (that's 2021) and half a dozen lines later claims there will be 400,000 the end of 2020 (that's current year).
Also 400,000 (or around 5%) of the population is the good news.
Please clarify Mister Editor.

Yes. And once these guidelines are announced, the Thai people will follow them, just as they have all the previous Songkran guidelines.
Yes, you are absolutely correct. The people will diligently follow the guidelines set. Such as don't drink and drive, pack no more than 23 people into the back of a pick-up, don't race up / down route 1/2/3/4/5/xxx (actually, with the volume of traffic, the opportunities for such are quite rare), all on a motor bike must wear a crash helmet (does that include the dog ?), don't play / use with your mobile phone while driving.

Surely this would be more environmentally friendly, less expensive and more efficient tooperate
You mean come up with an environment polluting alternative ? No, keep the people working. Besides, with fewer tourists, the streets won't need cleaning very often. At least they are doing something useful for their money. Perhaps cutting down on the cleansing fluids could be considered.
And think of all those newly or soon to be ex-hotel and bar staff.
-
Come on chaps. You can't expect him to realise that perhaps the farang refused them because they know about the many scams Thais are reputed to pull on the tourists or, may be the farang were more up-to-date on the WHO's announcements.
-
And how many have died / will die in the following 30 days as a result of the accident ? That's how the rest of the world counts road traffic deaths.

Well, that's standard for any Thai government. We will do whatever the Chinese tell us to do.

Result = almost no tourists.
I do wonder how the 9,000 foreigners treated over the last year causes 448 Million in bills to be unpaid.
Even if we're talking 10x the normal billing for foreigners.
Very easy for the 9,000 foreigners to collectively cause a 448 Million Baht bill.
That is an average of Baht 50,000 a person. Less than GBP 2,000. I had a Baht 150,000 surgery bill less than 2 years back (covered by insurance) in a State hospital. Had there been complications the bill would have been higher. No private Thai hospital was quoting less than a quarter of a million for the job.
(And a UK hospital would have been close to 10x higher.)

Two issues:
1) The UK pays state pensions on a 4 week or 13 week cycle. Other countries and personal pensions probably do similarly. To overcome this, shouldn't Thai Immigration be simply looking to see that a total of Baht 780,000 been deposited to the account during the previous 12 months.
2) It seems that most Thai banks do not indicate in the passbook that whether a deposit originated from outside Thailand or was made in-country.

I share the concerns expressed on accounts with Thai banks. It's not the banks I distrust but the possibility of orders imposed on them from above
That's primarily why my bulk money (800k) is with a foreign bank and has been for decades. The government is likely to think twice before it siezes from a British, Japanese or other such financial institutions. The ATM cards work all over the country and, from experience, they are more likely to issue foreigners with a credit card.

Went to see Buriram Immigration office at Thunder Castle, Chang Arena this morning for a chat. There was just 1 guy in a large office with loads of nice new desks, unused rubber stamps and partitions along a ton of packaging littered over the floor.
The office is open on a permanent basis and is immediately behind KFC. It has a nice new Thailand Immigration door with announcing the operating days (Monday to Friday). Suggest though that you give it a few days to get sorted before putting it to the test.
The "old" office up at the Provincial Government building will continue to operate Monday to Friday PLUS Saturday mornings. So from zero offices and a 240km round trip two years ago, Buriram now has TWO.

The Army should assume command over that border crossing for 5 years.
Transfer the whole lot there to "inactive positions".
Not to "inactive positions". Fire them with loss of pension and all the other privileges. Audit of assets by tax authorities would help too.

Yes, it's "Mainland" from New Zealand with different sorts/ages.
(Vintage, Tasty, Epicure, Swiss, ...).
Prices at Makro were below 180, now 204 or so.
Even higher at Lotus (before like 186 now 210).
It's one of my regular items
But the price is still competitive (1kg 840) compared to the real goodies from Switzerland or France (>1500 ... >2000).
So I have to swallow the new price.
"Vintage" from the BigC catalogue, 209 Baht:
About 13 year ago they were in the 60 to 70 Baht range. Has cheese been hit by the same tax / duty increase that bumped butter up dramatically a few months back or is it part of the lack of supply of cheese problem that hit Europe earlier this year ?

In the past I have used the Guardian extension without any difficulties. Within the past week (May 2018) I have been checking this up for a friend who may need to go through this route. Three Thai legal firms web-sites say 500,000 is now required but just one states that income may offset the 500,000.
ThaiVisa had a translation of the Police Order (c2014) available. See attached - section 2.18. Can't find an update.

There is the 365-day extension of stay based on being the "Guardian of a Thai child". The approval of your ex may be an issue though.
This extension is very similar to that based on marriage However, it does not require the 400k to be in the bank for two months before first applying for the extension. I have used it a couple of time when getting 800k into the bank in time was a problem.

Using Firefox 52.0.2 to enter : https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90online/online/tm47/TM47Action.do I got following message.
Quote The owner of extranet.immigration.go.th has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website. Unquote
Not really an amazing surprise when you consider Thai Immigration's record on data security over the past year or so.

Depending on every Branch there are different rules applied, Kasikorn seem to be Farang Friendly , which i cant say for Bangkok Bank per example.Often its depends on the clerk as well what kind of Documents are required. Some branches would even allow TR Visa for opening accounts where others require what you described. Its not consistent .
In most bureaucratic Thai organisations, be they public or private institutions, the one constant is inconsistency.

There is.. i know for a fact exercise equipment goes for 10% ( after that 7% vat is added)
Click on the top link (site is real slow)
The official site http://www.customs.go.th/wps/wcm/connect/custen/individuals/importing+postal+items/importingpostalitems+ gives the variation on rules for postal imports. Up to Baht 1,000.00 is duty free. This site appears to imply that, where applicable, duty will be applied it will be calculated at the "normal" rates.
The calculation can be found official site on http://www.customs.go.th/wps/wcm/connect/custen/traders+and+business/sample+of+duty+assessment/sampleofdutyassessment explains how total charge is calculated for commercial import operations.

Is it possible to voluntarily lose extension time so the renewal date is more convenient?
My retirement ext renews near the end of April but a month or two sooner would suit me better.
There is a field near the bottom of the TM7 form where you stipulate for how many days extension you are applying.
I've never heard of anyone putting less than 365 but give it a try. They can only make you fill out another form which I had to do when I wrote 1 year.

Phuket Immigration extends permits to stay for foreigners stuck in Thailand
in Phuket News
Posted
You are missing a major point regarding the Thai psyche. If the Thai authorities were to determine for which nationals travel is not possible, they would be taking responsibility for the decision to extend the permission to stay. A definite no, no that.
Much better to make everybody / anybody else take responsibility.
