  1. I was listening to some crappy, local readio station in the car today. He was saying that a Canadian was burgled last night in Kamala, and CCTV caught a Farang breaking in.

I have to be honest, I was a bit naive. Before this thread, I had no idea there were so many Farang on the island that would stoop as low as burglary.

Actually if you read the Gazette from the CCTV camera they could not see the face of the person. It was people in the neighbourhood who saw a Caucasian hanging around earlier.

  2. HI Can you give us more info ? What part of Rawai and where did he run away? How did you lose him?

Did know of a girl who lost a very exotic semi wild cat, she offered the Burmese a reward and they found it.

Have some posters made in Thai too.

Nikitta Bar has a Bulletin Board and so does the market opposite Nikita in Rawai.

Posters in Thai and English may help. Call PAWS and let them know too.

  3. Hi I am looking for a simple template but one that can be indexed by google. I just need a simple 2 page website. I have searched google but some of them are priced and some listings are just rubbish.. I can use dreamweaver on a basic level but am lacking in creativity.. Thank you

  4. I think it is important to post stories like this. Sadly there are so many... This is a good reminder that perhaps Vachira is ok for a 2nd opinion.

So many of these stories just scare me.

Perhaps we could start a list of recommended doctors in Thailand.. by region. Besides Dr Chusak in Phuket and a small pediatrician in Rawai there must be more..

Wonder if they could be pinned in the local forums or in this forum. Mods?

Letters to the editor in the Phuket Gazette, this edition has another scary story..

My friend has a story about a friend who has septima and was mis-diagnosed too and sent home, no doubt with a bag of useless pills. Luckily a doctor finally did diagnose him correctly.

  5. We are an online health food store however we are based in the south of Thailand and offer free pick up in Kata/Kata Noi area, but we do not have a shop to browse.

I am out of quinoa now but can have it soon. Also I have Himalayan Salt which is also unprocessed and full of minerals as well.

Plenty of other good things also such as wheat free-organic soy sauce made with sea salt.

    Raw nuts and seeds etc

petro free/papba free/fragrance free body care

    detoxing stuff

The selection is constantly expanding as we have just launched.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or request, we have great sources all over Thailand and many hard to find items too.

Click here for the link. Good Karma Thailand

Also we support the Health forum.

  6. You are not to far from Phuket Town where you will find lots of places that the locals eat if you want a Thai breakfast.

You also may bet better answers to to post in a travel forum such as Trip Advisor

Alternatively I would like to recommend Phuket Heritage Trails. 2 real Phuket Town natives have started doing walking tours. One includes stopping at 3 different places to sample the very and real local breakfast. starts at 7 or 8 am.

    http://www.facebook.com/Phuketheritage

Also on Phang Nga Road and there are many little places that serve western food as there is a few hostels / guest houses around there.

Here is a great map of Phuket Town. Hopefully that hotel will have copies.

    http://www.artandcultureasia.com/upload/map/PTM_map_3_panels.jpg

    Lots of good restaurants too........

    I would try Siam Indigo

Ka Jok See if you want a fun night with dinner and something like no where else.

    Lemon Grass

The Blue Elephant (a bit pricey)

I am sure others can recommend restaurants in Phuket Town

Good for getting your own car and enjoy Phuket

  7. "There is also the risk that people can't resist eating a lot more than one square, it tastes so good."

    LOL! Big risk indeed.

I have also heard about the benefits and this post inspired me to now have a small bag of the beans in my desk drawer. I gave up coffee ages ago ( reading Skinny Bitch inspired me to do that) and am quite sensitive to the caffeine in chocolate bars, as I can never have 1 square. This seems like a happy medium.

The beans are a good way for me to get the benefits as there is NO risk of eating a lot.

Sheryl I will have to try making the drink from the beans. Currently we do not have ground cacao. I have ground the beans in the dry mill attachment of my blender but did not get a very fine fine powder although it did grind up nicely.

I would be a bit concerned about anything from a big corp like Hershey's. It must be processed a lot I would think. Perhaps an email to them might answer that.

Thanks for the mention of cacao in our store. I ran out last week, perhaps this post had to do something with it, but now I am fully stocked again.

Here is the direct link for the cacao page

  8. HI try earthclinic.com they have some remedies but I have not tried them personally

    http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/hair_shampoo.html

I use an SLS free shampoo and will never go back to regular shampoos.

most natural shampoos are not really natural. For example they use Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS) or Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES) which are detergents.

SLS is in dish shop, laundry detergent and is also a garage cleaner.

never mind the other harsh chemicals. We even have an email from the Body Shop that says their products are naturally inspired

Here is the quote "The Body Shop's products contain natural ingredients, which can represent 0.5% - 99% of the formulation. We do not promote ourselves as "all-natural."

This is really scarry as all their marketing would have one think they are only natural......yet can be only .5%. ...

We carry 2 shampoos in our online shop that have no SLS and no SLES and that we really love. They do not strip the hair and scalp of natural oils... the base ingredients are plant based.

Also we carry a coconut oil soap that can be used as a shampoo but as a woman personally I love it for my body but not my hair.

Also for more info on the toxins in cosmetics and natural products visit http://storyofstuff.org/cosmetics/

and to look up the stuff in your shampoo check out the cosmetics database. It rates the ingredients as safe, toxic, carcinogenic...

  9. In general Chaing Mai has so much great stuff .. and is strangely not available elsewhere.... there just seems to be a much more switched on healthy food sub culture there.....

This was one of the reasons why we started the business/ website. There is a lot of good stuff available in Thailand, just spread out and often really small operations sometimes with no website or no marketing materials..

Thanks for the comment about the link.. I fixed it.

and here is again.. http://www.goodkarmathailand.com (or just click the link on the banner to the right )

As a sponsor of this forum too I can post my own link and I think we can link to other sites as long as we do not put an email address

  10. Have just prescribed this to a friend and handed him a bag of baking soda.

How long will it take for him to notice? He is currently taking "pills" from the doctor but still seems to be limping about..

Will post an updated if I can convince him to try it.

  11. Ah for the record The Body Shop is no longer the small ethical company that held a high standard to make it what it was. Sadly the owner Dame Anita sold out to Loreal who is still doing animal testing!

Some people don't mind but some people will certainly think twice as they are no longer suppurting a company with a consicnece.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/anitas-163652m-sellout-470379.html

    Some excepts.

    Dame

Anita Roddick, once hailed as the champion of ethical consumerism and

the darling of capitalism-with-a-conscience, has been forced to defend

herself against allegations of abandoning her

    principles after the

Body Shop was sold to L'Oréal, the world's largest cosmetic

    company.........The "cruelty free"

slogan became one of the rallying cries behind the Body Shop's march to

international domination of the ethical cosmetic trade and a central

plank of Dame Anita's much-celebrated value system. She placed the

environment, women, human rights and the needs of small producers

alongside that of a company's need for profit

    L'Oréal had declined

to follow the Body Shop in signing up to the Humane Cosmetics Standard,

a benchmark which allows consumers to verify if products have been

    tested on animals...

  12. Great Initiative taking public transport into their own hands! Good luck with this!

How great you can sit back and read a book and don't have to worry to much about being in a traffic accident, especially if you are on a bike.

  13. Pure virgin cold pressed coconut oil.

All those cremes actually have toxic chemicals.

I have been using coconut oil for about 4 years now. It must be good quality though.

absorbs in skin. It is natural and not to expensive.

Here is a great little informational tailor about the unregulated and toxic cosmetics industry.

    http://storyofstuff.org/cosmetics/

:o creams have toxic chemicals? I use moisturizer for men and I swear Im sometimes allergic to it and have a reaction.... do moisturizers have bad chemicals?

And SBK, what do you mean it blocks your pores? What happens?

Here is a really good website

    http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/

You can look up any ingredient and see what it says and if it is potentially carcinogenic. Also I think you can look up specific products.

If you want to know about toxic chemicals then go to the link about The Story of Stuff. Simple and not over dramatic.

Be informed then decide for yourself.

HDRIDER is the coconut oil pure with no perfume? Beauty stores sell crap oil with perfume in it. WHat brand do you have?

I have no problem with using it at night and then again in the morning under make up. I use mineral make up powder and instead of an expensive toxic base I use the coconut oil.

I use a totally cold pressed oil that is fermented with water, I carry it in my online shop but even before I used other coconut oils and had no problem with sun burn or clogged poors.

At 41 I get compliments on my skin.

Also HDRIDEr what kind of soap are you washing your face with? Thailand has a lot of really great natural soaps!

But it is best to avoid soaps with perfumes and detergents. (Avoid Parrot, Dove, Lux, etc)

Get one that does not smell like perfume. read the ingredients. Commercial soaps are crap. Look for one with rice bran or coconut oils or fruits or .. just plant based ingredients.

I use (and sell) a fragrance free one.. coconut oil and lye. Super lather and last a while. Feel super clean after. I have also used some I found at Carefour. they have a great selection. but read the ingredients. Avoid any that say "perfume".

Plenty of natural home made options too. There is a thread here:

    http://www.thaivisa....beauty-recipes/

Although having said that one of my friends really loves Smooth E.

Do you drink a lot of water? Also the water in the white jug has no minerals. I would recommend mineral water like Minere for better hydration and perhaps some coconut water.

  14. Hi

    Thanks, will try it out

Villa Market sells a nice one, Earth Born and I also carry one in my online shop.

When you go to Villa it will be solidified in the bottle but once you get it out of the air con it will be fine again.

  15. Great topic

We use high quality virgin coconut oil as eye make up remover . Many eye make up removers have mineral oil (petroleum product). This is just a very processed by product of CRUDE oil! ick.

Also we use it as an evening moisturizer and also as a moisturizer for the day time.

For me I put it on my face after I shower and before my make up. Feels better knowing that I am not putting chemicals on my face.

Also a good defrizzer for hair.

Hydrogen peroxide with water as a mouth wash

Bentanite clay and apple cider vinegar as a mask (can be quite strong though)

http://www.earthclinic.com has some great natural home made remedies..

It is important to know what all mainstream cosmetics have chemicals and potentially toxic chemicals. Annie Leonard who was in Bangkok recently made this terrific clip. A MUST see for anyone who uses cosmetics.

    It is not sensational.
